Premium Member See-Saws

What playground does not hold the magic lure
Of see-saws firmly braced upon their stands?
What child resists excitement, felt for sure
In ups and downs: the hard thump when he lands;

The surging thrill of bouncing up again-
To know that when he's hit that lowest low,
It's followed by a swing to new heights when
He'll know once more the joy of that plateau.

In contrast to the see-saw, truth is found,
For truly, were it stable, it would bore
The simplest mind; for only from the ground
The grandeur of the heavens makes its score.

For, only in imbalances, we feel-
The balance that keeps life- on even keel.

Integrated For Your Approval

That ADHD got me judged unfavourably,
impulsive interactions, easily distracted,
attention bouncing behaviour unique to me,

the odd one out and always told
different people, same old...
self conscious suffering from a lack of control,
humiliation on the regular, bad feedback on the whole.

Every decision of mine made aware of,
self worth in decline,
others know the way I’m stood spare lost,
inferior by design

Following leaders who decide what they like,
submissive through need not judged wrong or right,
Go with the flow and fall into line ignoring my life
Accustomed to others wants more important than mine

Meeting demands would please and get thanks,
the responsibility wasn’t on me and not my plan,
Hiding in the herd safe unnoticed, my blanket,
thinking for me, nope that idea vanished

With age people see stature and status,
competitiveness shows us our places
And I follow the leader not to be hated,
But I must play now or be manipulated

Avoiding confrontation unless necessary
Some act aggressive never stressing me,
be submissive like a b**** is just let it be,
but I’m impulsive so I react aggressively

I will follow subtle leaders for praise
acceptance is what motivates
but be expecting of me and see rage,
My position is one that I dictate

Life is easy if I please, horrid if I lead,
Judgement worn weak, nothing to me,
put downs received, not bothered really
fake approval as a slave, all of it weak

The impact good or bad is just an opinion,
win people over behave for their pleasing,
others go against, upstage, ego feeding,
Both approaches give nothing I’m needing

I don’t rebel or adapt to play the game
The comparison of people for selfish gain
I won’t follow leaders pulling the chain
These mind game evaluations are so lame

My value is my happiness win or lose,
why you value approval leaves me confused
why you control others think it’s skill not abuse
Importance of social acceptance,
I simply refuse!

Happiness

Cum what may we should always try and be happy.
Happiness actually is and adds to a person’s beauty.

This life is a rollercoaster ride it gives bumps to us every now and then.
Do not give up so easily and always have the attitude to do it again.

Without these ups and downs will this life be worth living?
If we do not face these challenges there is no fun in ageing.

Since birth we face obstacles in our path and we learn from them.
We always keep learning every moment even from a simple stem.

Hope is something which gives us the courage to keep going.
Keep smiling as our face should always look charming.

Happiness is very essential for living and survival as humans on this earth.
Give it your best because it may be the last chance as this might be our last birth.

Laughter

What good is life worth living
If life you can't laugh at
All the ups and downs mixed with the ins and outs
Each time you're up to bat

If you find you can't take it standing up
Then try sitting down
Laughter adds spice to this salt of life
When its flavor is around

If you're new to this and need a good laugh
Try laughing at yourself
It'll give to you a new attitude
Which can only help

To erase the problems
Of the dreaded woe is me
Which causes a drag in the time that you have
So set the laughter free

Guaranteed to make your life worth living
Each time you're up to bat
Through the ins and outs mixed with the ups and downs
When you find something to laugh at

KEEP ON SMILING

If at times you feel you want to cry,
And life seems such a trial.
Above the clouds there's a bright blue sky,
So make your tears a smile.

As you travel on life's way,
with it's many ups and downs.
Remember it's quite true to say;
One smile is worth a dozen frowns.

Among the world's expensive things,
A smile is very cheap.
And when you give a smile away,
You get one back to keep.

Happiness comes at times to all
But sadness comes unhidden.
And sometimes a few tears must fall;
Among the laughter hidden.

So when friends wear sadness on their face
And trouble is piled around them,
The world will seem a better place
And all because of your smile.

Premium Member So Spake Simple Simon

Line of inquiry:
“We look at spirit not at form
Our touch is gentle, kind and warm
We but reflect God’s love and light
‘Tis the path to which we conform”

Our corporal body is only an outer husk,
Which we leave behind in life’s dusk.
But a fragment of the divine in every chest
Dwells, that no force on earth can bust.

It can kindle each being like a lamp,
Even when we wander aimless like a tramp,
Throwing light in the dark, showing us our way,
Guiding and forbidding us from going astray.

This spark from the divine may lie covered in ash.
But it can be fanned into flame and can flash.
In life’s ups and downs, in moments dark and bright,
We feel the throb of life inside, a flash of light.

God’s love and light alone can make us whole,
And even after our death, we live in our soul.
Reflect God’s love, it will our lives transform
To His divine mercy, let our lives conform-

Tears In Heaven

A touching moment
sat in the stalls
My grandson and I
full of great expectation
sitting together
in this iconic location

Two hundred performances
Guitarist supreme
uplifting
sublime
‘tis for us
our first time’
Eric his name…
with guitars he found fame
One of the best
for he brings them alive
with his talented fingers
makes music that lingers
With his ups
With his downs
With his tears very near
for Conor his son
‘Tears in Heaven’
he sings
After shedding so many
a song for his boy
who is missing his dad
leaves us crying
leaves us sad

Then for his dear wife
just before they go out
Reassures of her beauty
from rooftops he’ll shout…
For this is surely
what true loves all about
singing…
Darling ~ you look wonderful tonight

And as he is playing
two hours or more
The audience is yelling
for one more encore
So much emotion
within every song
Singing ‘Tears in Heaven’
for his dear son now gone
When singing his song
You look 'Wonderful Tonight'
My eyes they fill up
at this magical sight
So thank you Eric Clapton
for a wonderful evening
In the Royal Albert Hall
the most iconic venue of all

Premium Member Let's Talk About Love

Love is a very popular subject here on the Soup

It's the basis of much joy and happiness

Without love, we carry on with everyday tasks

Missing that someone to share our ups and downs

To revel and share in the good times

And to comfort each other in times of strife

Methinks that describes love very well

I've been very lucky in love

Most people end up loving one person all their lives

I've been fortunate to love two

My first wife Linda sadly passed away from breast cancer

At the very young age of fifty-nine

My present wife Cathie and I have been married

For thirteen years... how fortunate can one man be

My life has been a series of happy events

Believe me, I am definitely one of the lucky ones!

To my unborn

To our unborn
We are on the verge of life's greatest journey
It has been written in the stars, you are our destiny
Even though the world's a mess
We are so humbled and forever blessed
You were born during a global pandemic
The love we have for you will be truly authentic
We'll be the ones to wipe away your tears
Personally I hope you don't end up with my tiny ears
You will grow up knowing there's nothing to fear
As it stands we don't know your gender
We will be your greatest mentors
If it is revealed that your a girl
From then on you will become our whole world
Simply put you'll have us mesmerized
I hope you end up with your mother's eyes
Angels are shining up your Bea-utiful tiara
We're here to catch every moment with our camera
You'll bring us nothing but love and joy
Watch out world here comes our bouncing baby boy
Life has a lot of ups and downs
Young prince let me adjust your crown
Who knows we could share the same birthdate
So now we patiently wait....

Premium Member Thank You All

The soul is such a complicated thing
It can be filled with joy and laughter one moment
And filled with a feeling of utter despair the next
It's the most mysterious of human traits
It can take the smallest thing to make the pendulum swing
Some happenings can effect our moods more than others
But we are strong enough to overcome them
I'm afraid I don't fall into the that category
My ups and downs can be quite extreme at times
Very extreme highs and very extreme lows
I try my hardest not to be too sensitive
But for people like me, it's nearly impossible
It's inherent in who I am
Perhaps this is what allows me to write
To express my feelings
I often disguise the true inner me with humour
It's my way of coping
But my life would be missing a major part
Without friends to share my poetry
Thank you all!
