CANINE KING
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was a dachshund extraordinaire,
     a canine king with a luxurious coat most fair.
He ruled our neighborhood with nary a care,
     his tail wagging wildly, his ears flapping in the air.
His little legs moved swiftly,
     patrolling the streets quite deftly.
He sniffed and snuffled with a curious mind,
     chasing the squirrels with harmless malign.
He barked at strangers with a fearless din,
     growling and showing his teeth like a sharp mandolin.
He ruled the streets with an iron paw,
     protecting and serving with his loving, doxie law.
He licked the faces of those he knew,
     reigning gently while enjoying his doggie chews.
He was a master of mischief with his charming ways,
     nudging with his nose, his way of begging you to stay.
His barks were music to my ears, his wags a delight,
     dancing and prancing with a carefree spirit, light.
He was a dachshund extraordinaire,
     a neighborhood hero and loving arbiter.
Premium Member Doggie At Christmas Time
A wiggly  holiday bundle of energy
Snickers, my pup,   wears a Rudolf  outfit for fun--
Annoyed with long antlers,
she grinds around
ripping  an outlandish  costume,
then fiercely bobbing  her tail;
while kids stick red bells  along a furred neck:
Our dachshund yelps
and fumbles on  stacked presents,
as the camera rolls --- a keepsake of  eve’s laughter…
But  weenie  goes hysterical from the raucous
causing mayhem under the  ornate  lights—
A zoom, a wham,
Snickers  digs into wrapped tokens
unraveling boxes,
oh now tarnished from her hunt—
Till slashing that itchy reindeer crotch,
dear  doggie fetches an opened gift—
a  costly  vase     to fill up her pee!
Premium Member My Darling Dachshund
A dauntless dachshund was my darling dog.
He was charmed to chase the cavorting frog.
He always ran and romped with great agility ,
For sniffing and smelling mice, he had a special ability.
He was rock black in shade and was very bold.
He stayed loyal and lively and never grew old.
His swaddling gait and swiveling move,
Brought much joy. From life, all boredom he did remove.
Safeguarded and shielded our home with a surveilling eye.
Lazily loitered with us under the lulling evening sky.
His sparkling starry eyes shone with joyful delight.
He sought snuggles and cuddles as if they were his right.
Sad, one day, our darling dachshund for ever departed.
Dropping his doggy duties, from us, he silently parted.
The memory of the magical moments he gave, merrily stays.
A faithful friend who gave us funny and festive days!
Premium Member Pets are Angels
"God sends pets without wings so no one will suspect they are angels ..."  Unkown
Pets are Angels in disguise
Endearing was my canine companion
There was no other pet in my life dearer than my dog
Seated close, sometimes he would curl up at my side.
Amiably he would lay his head in my lap and sleep,
Ready to wake up at the slightest sound,
Ever alert guarding our home from rodents and rowdies.
A wild roamer was my cute tawny dachshund.
Never was he in chains to be hauled like cattle.
Gave us company as we took our evening rounds.
Endearingly he would rub his body on our knees,
Licking our feet and arms in deep affection.
So full of mischief, playfully he capered and hopped.
I have never felt a love so deep to any other as to him.
Nor had a bereavement more intense than the one at his departure.
Death claimed him before we could anticipate.
Inseparable was he from our home and our children.
Speechless I stand when memories churn within
Grew up as a member of the family and an abiding companion.
Unable to break the bond, he clings to our hearts.
In haunting thoughts of him, we still get choked.
Sacred memories of him are forever enshrined within.
Eternal bliss and sweet rest be granted unto him!
Tito is my cute little friend
He is none other than a dachshund
He guards our yard and our little home
And around the house, does merrily roam
He barks when strangers come
When barking, he sounds like a hollow drum
He growls when he sees Kitty cat
But wags his tail at my sight
Tito, my dog, and Kitty my cat
Each of them is our beloved pet
Sad, they are never friends and always fight
Snarling and growling at each other’s sight
Of all her feed, Kitty loves milk
Her fur is tawny and soft as silk
Tito with sleek waist and drooping ears
Always prefers to roam outdoors
We bring them up with tender care
Though often fight, they are a charming pair
Without them life will be quite dull
Both, in our hearts, we fondly cuddle
A Giant
A Giant
There is an unknown legend that comes
 from the great Black  Forest
 of a creature fearsome and oh, so glorious.
Though his brain be small
 and barely larger than a walnut
 his head and jaws are held in fear and awe.
Those huge brown eyes hold such a stare
 and his teeth are sharp as nails
 with claws long and pointed reaching everywhere.
The body black and boldly trimmed in brown
 short haired waistcoat thick yet soft
 rapped snuggly at his belly round.
The form is slim and trim, the torso long and lank
 a streamlined tail waving in the sun
 satisfied when its task is done.
There he is, can you see him frown
 thrashing through the field
 everybody running as he comes into town.
His sound is loud and deafening,
 it roars like echoed thunder
 as feet imprint the earth he plunders.
There he stands with renewed vigor and vim
 challenging every eye on him.
What's that you say, you're unafraid,
 He is but a tiny Dachshund?
Stand back my friends,  you doubting disbelievers,
 be fearful and leary, despite his size
 he is a giant,
 a Rottweiler in disguise.
a sausage nor a mouse is he
A sweet new pup
came into my life
So young is he
but sadly you see
Already
I am his third Mum
Abandoned twice
Through no fault of his own
He lived in a dog sanctuary
And as soon as I saw him
this darling Dachshund
came home to live here with me
Giving such joy
this sweet gorgeous boy
His previous name was Mouse
An unusual name
but then again
‘tis fun having Mouse in my house
Some folks call them sausage dogs
although not me
a sausage
nor a mouse is he
He's a darling Dachshund
who has stolen my heart
when he came home to live here with me
I have a pet, a smart little dachshund
Whenever I go out, he follows me always
Watching him wag his tail is fun
Mischievous he is, his antics amaze
Raven black is his shining skin,
With drooping ears hanging down.
My sportive little friend is a joy to own.
With his funny pranks my days drown.
When I take him out, he runs and rolls
Truly a bouncing ball of energy
His waggish tricks brighten my days
Between him and me is a rare synergy
With his bark, he scares all rodents away
As the stray cat comes in, he is brutally at war
With his paws he enjoys prodding the dying rat
When he is around, life is never a bore
From office, even if I come back late
He will be there to greet me, wagging his tail
He climbs over, licking me from foot to crown
In spontaneity of affection, he does not fail
Indeed he is my prized possession
In our house, he is allowed to roam free
His eyes speak a strange language of love
Bringing into our lives so much of glee
"Goddess of Dawn" from ancient mythology,
I'm  a creative soul, loyal, compassionate, responsible
Sister of curiosity, sibling of five brothers and elder sister;
Passionate about nature care, my family circle, the arts;
Who feels safe with loved ones, connected with God,  and joyful about positive changes in this world
Scared of climbing heights, being stuck in close spaces and sudden demise of kin:
Would want to see the end of poverty, life in Jupiter, splendor of Borealis
Citizen of Asiana , a country  famous
for her powdered beaches and warm smiles,
Claud!
My dachshund pal lights the days' fire
Naughty Snicks-- a dame of desire,
Her wags and night plays always soar
Gone now... times with her I'll adore!
Proud of my red coat, that others admired,
         or was it the charm and wit I had, that they desired?
               I spent my days basking in the noon-day sun;
    you scolded me for stealing the worker’s lunch, I did it, just for fun!
                 You gave me a world where I was free to roam;
               through woods and fields until you called me home.
               I know there were times, you did not take pleasure,
             in the prizes I returned with, that I deeply treasured.
             I protected you from strangers, with my gnarly bark;
    you let me play at night, chasing frogs and dodging owls, in the dark.
                  You dressed me up and I paraded all around;
     I knew I was the life of every party, a miniature, ten pound hound.
         I was grateful for your tender care, through my golden years;
             I left you with a heavy heart, and eyes, filled with tears.
In memory of  Phoebe Leda Rose our miniature dachshund.
Born May 1998 died Feb. 2013.  She truly was a lively and affectionate dog. The poem reflects her quirky personality that kept us laughing.
We purchased Phoebe for our 10 year old daughter who cherished her and wrote a poem about her for school.
Phoebe Leda Rose has very big nose
She wobbles when she walks
And she wiggles her toes.
