Human Genome

a cadaver is laid down on a cold dissecting table;
to study all about life, an anatomist ponders
which organ to be excised for examination without bias

he decided to use a median value of the life
from normal curve within +/-1 sigma area

after a thorough examination of the body
the anatomist who is still breathing decided to excise the heart,
which never was stopped until the cadaver breathed his last breath;
and the brain’s layer after layers of good and bad memories, caused from good and evil thoughts or his behavior while he was alive

inside his heart was contaminated from all kinds of waste
and that’s why it made difficulty in breathing; on the surface,
so many big and small cut outs and stab wounds all overshadowed
by the immorality of the mundane world it makes you want to turn
your face away from it

the brain is no difference, after chopping the skull, the anatomist carefully pulled the brain out, unfolded and examined every nook and corner of the brain. the connected cobweb-like thought’s narrow passageway consisting from all kinds of chemistry symbols; it was, found to be a lump of fossilized DNA so fragile that just a little touch of the hand would make it crumble

at the time when the pulverized fossil blown in the air
carried by a gust of wind, started to release an overpowering
stench so disgusting that nauseates the sniffer; however, as you sniff more
and more, it becomes sweeter and finally enraptured the sniffer.

and after all the mysterious aroma thus becomes powerful enough
to delude you into pretense that you bear a charmed life, thereby
dragging you to stand at the edge of a deadly cliff

if a day of life is entangled with so much oddity and complication,
there won’t be any better and simple life beyond death,
yet the grotesquely structured brain wanted to look into
the world beyond as ever

I want to wander inside Grandpa's mind
 drink in multi-hued core thoughts
intimately lounging there--
glide with wild violin notes as they
 light evening's way;
listen to this troubadour who prances
through the flourishing roots of music,
sway with flashing sparks of desire
as they hover just above me--

And all my passions will reveal
 themselves , lavishing secret dreams
on me which only I have the access to
his inner sanctum where my private
thoughts become rivers of rhythm ,
nourishing the hungry desire to be me
and partly him --tears and all --how we
held each other's arms as tunes from
breaths snuffed his charmed life.

For those who know me, this may be a surprise

My mood lately has been less than upbeat

The years must be catching up with me

Lately I've been thinking a lot about life

How it all seems so very short

Seems like just yesterday, we had our first child

He is now about to turn fifty-five

Where did it go???

I've led a charmed life filled with much joy and happiness

Regrets? Had a few but in the overall scheme of things

My life has been a gem

Often wondered why with all the negativity around

Best to just accept it and enjoy it for the time I have left

I usually write happy, silly, upbeat poems

I guess my way of coping, getting through

But reality sometimes says

“Who are you trying to kid, Jester Jack?”

WELL... this is one of those times!

But have no fear,

I'll wake up tomorrow morning

Greet the world with a dirty big grin

And pretend today never happened!!!

Premium Member never just a cat -

oh little one, mine
how you have stolen my soul, completely
you worked your furry way inside, and grew my heart to twice its size
you taught me, in your endlessly patient way, what is truly important
you have the sweetest, most gentle spirit of any creature I've ever known

and I can no longer imagine a world without your fuzzy smile.
you are the very embodiment of love, unconditional
and my bright spirit grows every day with my need of your need of me.
I once told someone how much you mean to me
and they replied, "But it's only a cat!"

"oh, how foolish you are", I said ...
"how much joy and love and tenderness you deny yourself!"
if only they, and every other cold-hearted person, could know you
or have something in their life as sweet as you
what a different world this would be ...

full of abiding happiness and love.
you are everything to me, little one
and I care not who finds me silly or foolish because of that
or who finds my time spent with you as wasted
or who sees you as "just a cat" ...

for you are a part of me, and always will be
as surely and deeply as any other creature I've ever known.
you are a blessing and a miracle sent from heaven
and I have a full, full heart and a charmed life
all because ... of You.

Yes just a second,
she was beautiful
beyond comparison.
Not a wrinkle or a frown line.
Succulent lips,
glowing skin.
Gorgeous hair
cascading down her back.
Even her hands were elegant.
Men and women alike
looked upon her with admiration
If truth be told, with envy as well.

Her’s seemed a charmed life
there in a city by the sea.
Status, a beautiful home.
She moved through space
like a butterfly,
flitting about without a care.
Perhaps she was oblivious
to the darkness permeating her city.
There were things
done in the shadows.
Evil had also made the city its home.
Her Lot in life protected her and her daughters.

Genesis 19:17
And as they brought them out one said, “Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away.”

Her heart ached
for what she was leaving behind.
The grandeur, her status, possessions and servants.
Sulphur and fire
rained down from the heavens!
The great Sodom and Gomorrah both being consumed.
She stopped to looked back.
Not just a glance,
she gazed with great sadness.

Her anguish immortalised.
In an instant she was turned to salt.
One second.
Yes, in one second.
Wrinkles formed around her eyes.
Her mouth turned downward
in a frown.
Her skin no longer glowed.
With grotesque hands
she held her face.
Her once gorgeous hair
in stone like clumps.

Nothing is left
of her once great beauty.
Nothing is left
of those cities by the sea.
She instead,
like them,
remains a cautionary tale.
Now immortalized
in pages of scripture.
Her, just a pillar of salt
looking towards
Sodom and Gomorrah,
cities that are no more.

We stood apart waiting for dusk to fall
pale the light that may not bring us to next week:
Both of us wanted ties of chains relieved
you from angst, and I from not loving enough.

Then you entered into a gentle maze of just how
time drained pool of years I barely recalled,
our moments chilled by desperate silence
while late-night marked your face, ashen.

And there you were, beautiful in dew’s reflection
sharing the glee from our early anniversaries
when days held our pledge, ' for better or worse, '
as I unveiled this mask I dared not shed.

Back and forth you whispered like fragrant mist
tracing our  breakthroughs when stars grew narrow;
until we slowly choked on milestones
of owned joys and trials …I listened, listened.

A fool, I cannot ride the last sunset without her,
then she asked," is there anything you need to say?"

“My love, I promise to fill my heart's absence
oh we must go on; charmed life is ours, evermore."

At five years old, starting out in kindergarten
I went to school with my favorite best friends
Girls and boys I’d known as my local hearten
The ones I loved so I had no need for amends

We lived on a farm that was above the school
And my grandfather often drove me there, too
It was there that I learned to follow each rule
Where I simply knew the good ways that I grew

It just so happened, that our family had to move
So into town I went where I found a new school
At this new school I found very few to approve
The kids there were all about being so very cruel

After trying to know these new boys and girls
I finally realized that I was much better off alone
My past friendships had been such true pearls
That this new place begin to feel like I was grown

Somewhere amid the moving of my life to town
I discovered that I had lost the child who had been
She was alive inside, still wishing she wasn’t down
But there weren’t any new friends she could win

As the years passed by, my books got me through
But when I finally did find friends again in high school
They were wild and willful; the rebels were my crew
With these rougher crowd I was so sure I was cool

It would be years before I could finally look back
And see that the move away from our old farm
Led me to a loss that would haunt me with black
A world that was filled with loneliness and harm

When I see my old friends from those old days, long ago
I remember them with a sweetness that fills me up
They were the first relationships filled with love, although
The years that came later would teach me to standup

The moral of the story is that children feel the effects
Of loss, moves, divorce and other grown up decisions
If I could change it all, I don’t know what happens next
But I do know that love would be kinder with provisions

So if I could change one moment in my lifetime
It would be the day I moved away from that farm
Where I was so loved and known by that time
That I was content with my life that was such a charm

They Sea Me Without

They sea me without.

I carry a raven upon my shoulder,
A sundial on my back.
The hat I wear is made of ash;
Sunlight is what I lack.

I drag my feet behind me on sandy beaches.
The ball and chain my ankle bracelet bling.
‘If only…’ is a wish, a fantasy; it’s incomplete.
I never made it big.

There is a line of memories behind me in the sand;
It shows the places I have seen.
It is my reason;
The reason I understand;
The reason I understand why you do not understand me.

It curves around, beyond the boulders
And on through rows of palm trees.
This dream I have, I have always carried;
It has always been with me.

I leave my burdens at the door,
But desire is a flame that still burns eternal.
It lights up my face, when I see her face,
But inside I remain forever nocturnal.

I walk in foreign footsteps,
No guide or friend in tow.
I cross the sea of peace, love and empathy forever,
Alone in my sinking boat.

I carry only what I need to make it to the end of the sea.
The cannon ball attached to my feet,
Is expanding more than I would like it to be.
It grows with each passing full moon,
The only time I can be seen.
I hide behind a smile sometimes,
Before it rows away from me.

I have a conversation, with a man who sells only ale;
His face is full of redness and joy!
My face is always pale.
I take a sip of this rotgut and begin to waste away from the inside.
I sometimes hear a hearty tune and sing!
While all the time,
Inside, I die…

The noise is intoxicating;
The words they speak are so enchanting.
Sooner or later it becomes closing time
And I am left walking away from the dancing.

The maiden’s flutter their eyes,
I haven’t shaved in several weeks.
My life is worn away by the sun, my clothes torn asunder.
They flirt and kiss me on the cheek
But there is no more thunder.
They ask if I would like to join them,
On their midnight adventure.
I have no words, I promise to return,
But they never get a real answer.

They cannot readily see the hole in my soul;
Oh what a charmed life I live.
I try to laugh, so tip my hat…

…a pirate’s life for me.

Lt Col Jack

Sixty years since i saw him
But he suddenly came to mind
A quiet sense of humour
Of the mischievous kind
A pleasant disposition
Except when crossed
Then very soon to remind
Who was in fact the boss.

An unlikely friendship because
We were years and ranks apart
But somehow i could never
Take the Army thing to heart
A square pegged soldier
Never quite fitting in
Leading this charmed life
Of undiscovered sin.

Always respectful of rank
When together on base
Down in the pub at night
Near equals face to face.
I, of course left
He carried on
I only found out
Long after he was gone

He achieved senior rank
Became very well respected
I suppose on reflection
Only what was expected.
I wonder if he ever remembered
His disrespectful boozing mate
And how we both reassumed rank
As we passed the barracks gate

I sit by the open window watching out for hubby's return.
The ancient oil lantern sways casting pools of light.
There are insects buzzing around it, they seem to be playing kamikaze.
Some pay the price as they get zapped, others seemingly to live charmed life.

As I sit waiting enjoying the night sounds, a large moth appears by the window
so close I could touch it. Then it starts its crazy yet enchanting dance.
Flitting first up and down, now going round and round.
Mottled browns and reds adorn wings of glossier like silks.

Alone like me it seems to be yet having fun drawing weird patterns.
It gets closer to the glass on each pass, a dancing dare devil of beauty.
I do not want to see it zapped, so go out and turn of the lantern.
Sitting in the old rocker chair, I gaze into the star studded sky.

And there silhouetted is my moth
as it flies away across the moon.
Free to live another day and night
it is joined by another as hubby arrives.
