Mundanity Doth Not Spell Ennui

Nor do I feel free
akin to noble savage
(gratis to Jean Jacques Rousseau)
completely unfettered, and able lee
to fend off unseen banshee,
comically swatting for all to see,

though today February Eighth,
2019 quite similar (i.e. dime
a dozen) to many previous twenty
four hour blocks of time,
herewith metering poetic testimony

hashing out another rhyme,
I feel considerably less mindful,
as if complicit in a major crime,
(yes absolutely more remorseful
regarding entire lifetime

of indifference) prime

shoulder shrug, shrink into self, or
other convenient pantomime
schizoid personality disorder diagnosis,

asper this pronounced emotional detachment
more painfully clear climb
ming pyramid of self actualization -
engendered through longtime
therapy in tandem with

half dozen prescription medications
and cathartic, holistic, therapeutic...pastime
writing poems delving into scarred psyche
aftermath years burned by quicklime
writhing, when aware impacted me now

evincing unrepentant blank affect
behavior couched, established, fostered
during in utero stage, characteristics
manifested by full termtime
tidbits shared by parents chime

how my body tensed
like tightly wound coil before schooltime
reinforced destructive coping skills
resident in this older chap
aroused during bedtime
poking, seeping, violating...dreamtime.

Milton's Old Gal, From Kalamazoo

There once lived a girl with a bonnet of straw
her song was so bad yet they did not outlaw
blame the song not the brain
said the chap, quite insane
at the Kalamazoo bar even whiskey guffawed

Milton the server from the far edge of town
wiped down his bar and then gave her a frown
she did not take heed
she was all voice and greed
at Kalamazoo hub all they drank was the Crown

Her name was Petunia she sang like a spoon
until Mexico John said, " I'll marry you soon"
she married him quick
though thick as a brick
he was cute as can be and played a bassoon.

I Relish Sparring Repartee of Clever Quips

I relish sparring repartee of clever quips...

Particularly, when voicing and/or
writing bon mots doth betake

among sleepers awake,

a propensity for parrying
thrusts humorously recently
adopted, though occasionally

and perhaps I might
momentarily even forsake
such wordplay, but

inexplicably to satiate

whose then two little girls,
(now grown to womanhood)
would inconsolably shake
for ever and anon drowning
their sweet sorrows,
where profuse tears
engender lachrymose lake.

Premium Member Poppabear

This poem is written for a mate’s dad
The family left feeling awfully sad
For their Poppabear passed this week
A better life he tries to seek

A Son, A Brother, A Father too
Your babybears were very proud of you
Yes you had your demons with fags and the booze
Alas your taking your final cruise

You gave your children a better life than you had
That’s why they are proud to call you dad
Your early days with your brother were difficult and hard
No contact from parents not even a card

But you stayed true to your word
Gave your children love that’s not absurd
Even though you struggled with your health
Your love to the kids was better than wealth

As a former soldier and a guardsman too
I’m sure your send-off won’t be all blue
As a Guardsman you will stand tall
Erect to the front you will not fall

A handsome and witty chap you were
Direct to the point that was for sure
As a man who didn’t mince his words
Assertive and polite but did not curse ?

So Poppa Bear you will be missed
Now your babybears are getting Pxxxed
RIP DAD we loved you so much
A single white feather is all now we can clutch

Premium Member The Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas and I’ve gone and broken my big toe,
I slipped and fell and injured it, in the freshly fallen snow!
I was carrying the Christmas tree, the one that set alight
Though the chap in the hardware store swore the lights would be alright!!

I’d gone to get some batteries, triple A, I was assured,
By the chap at the hardware store, whose knowledge I applaud,
But my smoke alarm is double A, and so it didn’t work,
When the Christmas tree set on fire and my wife called me a jerk!

But you haven’t heard the worst of it, I almost dare not tell,
Because all of the Christmas presents, set alight as well.
You see we keep to our tradition, put the gifts under the tree
And to add insult to injury was the vicinity of our settee.

The only saving grace was that our tv did not perish,
So I’m sat upon the floor, at least I’ve got the films to relish,
With remote safely in hand I search the films I most desire,
But the message on the screen says ‘your subscription has expired!’
