“The Big Blues and Baptismal Alice”
In the land of the dirty politician
Steely resolve was borne bidding
farewell to thinly veiled conceit and division
that particular brand of milk had long in the tooth turned sour
in her red-hot mamma kitchen
A racing Greyhound on the Going Nowhere Road
forever chasing the White Rabbit named Godot
counts time from its pocketful of ticking time bomb clocks
watching Pterodactyl hormones fly in formation
eating low lying ducks in a row
while the young Velociraptor sitting in her room drawing blood viper tongue fast,
has gone all Poe
The Greyhound turns tales around
and heads back towards Emerald City
flying fast away from a plague of Bubonic Black Crows
She says adieu to those dealing cards that were never real pretty
sitting at the Tea Party Table pulling Voodoo dreams
out of the Lyrebird’s duplicity
Departure
New journey
Two tokens
One kept aside for the Love
that’s steadfast and outspoken
the other for Bee Queen standing stellar
left-field not broken
The Buzzer claims the Chance Card
and moves way out past “GO”,
The Usurper Spell is now fully broken and blown
There on the open road destiny is cumulus now known
Face turned towards Big Blue Sky and Sunshine
a new life tapestry is sewn
Mystery mist whispering over Mountains of Blue
where angels set secret prayers
on the wings of swans who only speak home truth
soaring high upon Heaven’s stairs
singing loud and clear
new dreams do bloom
through cool clean white cotton clouds
face to the sun
feet on the ground
a new day has arrived
strong magic is found
Black ink words swallowed
charcoal spits out a burnt offering
through bitterful and twisted blisters
A New journey forward -
Home is calling her to the
Forest of the Three Sisters
There ensconced in her bucolic benevolent black heath of a palace
Born again in the Big Blues sings the bushfire burning in Baptismal Alice

"Placebo - Part 2"
There’s little sins and HUGE SINS
Little mistakes, possibly forgiveable.
HUGE MISTAKES, HUGE SINS?
That’s a different kind of metronome
marking time over a head, while
a recidivist waits for his deal with God.
You ask those little girls and boys
who are divested of their childhood,
their pure innocence in
the most heinous ways -
if they think you deserve a deal with God,
while you look at photos of them being defiled,
or worse, you are in the filthy piece of Celluloid with them.
You ask those little girls and boys
who have been divested of their childhood,
their pure innocence in
the most heinous of ways,
who have been killed and thrown
like bags of rubbish somewhere -
if they think you deserve a deal with God.
You ask the families of all that have been
inflicted and their lives unalterably changed -
whether they think you deserve a deal with God.
They say there is no God.
Well, perhaps there isn’t.
Why would a just God let that happen?
“Suffer the little children” etc
What if God is truly “I Am”? And that
“I Am” is in you.
And the you that is lying there
concerned for your own remorse,
your own deal with God -
not the deal and mercy
a child deserves to be given by God
(even at this moment, somewhere in the world,
a child all alone crying out for…);
well, you just
turn over in the cot in your crib and cry like a baby,
thinking you are all alone.
What if God that is the "I Am"
could kick out of your body
the other lesser god, the god
that is the "I Isn’t"?
Is it possible at this point, I wonder?
I guess it depends on what stage of diarrhoea,
you’ve contracted.
Because when you get down to the
nuts and bolts of it,
this Life we have,
is all about Contracts.
The officer on duty knocks
opens your door hatch, and announces,
“You’ve got a visitor”.
You swing off the top level of the bunk
you’re dying of boredom in,
trying not to kick the other “effer” in the head
and you are let out of your crib.
You’re off to make your deal with God.

“Monopoly - Fast Track Equations”
Razor sharp cut quite clear
He says Trust
She says Fear
Broken glass and hidden things
He says Respect
She says Trust
Ashes to Ashes
Dust to Dust
Black Lies and Alibis
He says Truth
She says Respect
Innocence is shattered
All the children wept
Steel Cages, Monopoly and Chance Cards
He says Love
She says Lost
Flying Monkeys and Kangaroo Courts
He says Lost
You say, "Here’s the Road Map, I've got the Get Out Free Card"
You get behind the wheel
Take back your soul
Foot to the floor
Keep driving fast, not slow
Pass “GO”, Do not Look Back.
Girlfriend, little sis'ta, you are right on track.

"Deep Duet"
When I write I feel my fingers tapping keys
In my mind they are stroking black notes and ivory
You are sitting with me
Place your warm hands on mine
“Metronome”, you whisper
Warm breath on my neck close behind
“But there are rules”, I say
I lean back into you
Time to move in tempo
We are deep duet
He colours my world

(Lovejoy-Burton/April 2018)
"Love is like playing the piano, first you must learn to play by the rules, then you must forget the rules and play from your heart".
"An accidental, in music theory, is a musical notation that is used to raise or lower the pitch of a note. There are a handful of accidentals - sharps, flats, naturals, double sharps, and double flats. In piano, when an accidental precedes a note, it tells the pianist to play a different note from the original."

“Route 66” (Part 1)
“I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto”, she said
The moral of this story, let us deliver from beginning not end -
When you lie in it,
it’s inevitable, you eventually must wake up and make your own bed.
She thought she was on the Yellow Brick Road all along,
But the Screaming Monkeys had led her far astray, far from Home,
from her normal abode made of Strong
and all that is Fey,
it was clear to anyone watching this was not a normal day.
It was freezing all over this doomed foreign place,
as she walked with each step, tapping out heavy defeat
and the harsh Winter wind blowing it’s bitter words in her face, “Retreat! Now, Retreat!”.
Her heart had gone hard, you see,
ferocious and cold, as her feet pounded the cracks in this road not made from Gold.
She persisted her march full of integrity, grace
but she held on tightly to that big can full of mace.
The place was surrounded by the Forrest of Tricks,
as she faced with certainty,
she was actually now on Route 66,
with thunder and lightening shooting through clouds
ACDC was playing far away, foggy in the background,
“The Highway to Hell”.

Life is for many absolutely lifeless
so many struggles having to face
thoughts since birth always same
life seems all one long chase
One is born then one will die
in between it's all just basic routine
school, work, courtship, marriage
children, old age, what's it been?
Is all that amounts to life?
something more surely is there
life abundant can it be found?
oh God don't you even care?
Surely there's life found in God
reality in truth with capital L
bow before the Lord in humility
there be made spiritual well
This is God of abundant love
merciful, faithful, full of grace
follow the Lord who has risen
this is life living in God's place
('you will die without ever being alive' - Richard Burton (1925-1984)
Just some thoughts after reading this quote on life and what it would mean to me.)
"The Queen's Slippers - Part 2"
There goes my heart
with bags packed
no turning back
or final wave
seated hooded next to huntsman
innocent, gauche, temperamental
There will come a time
to save,
but save oneself
on this dark road,
one must -
There will come a time
to talk,
but walk the talk
on this dark road by oneself
‘tis the True Lesson,
to Win-Win,
one must.
A gold wedding ring
A delicate diamante crucifix
An open heart
Some words inscribed
Latin to remember
casually tossed aside
Sterling Silver
broken in seconds
That is the past
Life now beckons.
Lost. Much later. Lost.
A Soothsayer sees –
A Soothsayer knows.
A Soothsayer has walked
the same Road.
Bluebird's and Cuckoo's nests
glittery material things
carrots dangled by withered carrion minds;
True wealth are the hidden maps
buried in the Lost Forrest of Time.
There is an owl it perches
on my heart
digs it’s talons in like
nine inch nails piercing
it softly hoots, too diabolical
for screeching
The Owl slowly turns it’s eyes
towards the Reader
a silent voyeur trespassing on the kill,
it digs it’s talons in sharper
blood flows claret stained
drop by drop
into the Poison Chalice, again,
blood flows warm and free
it’s pumping with life yet, see?
Soon, too soon it will come
tomorrows are never guaranteed.
Above it’s right talon a sterling silver anklet
it holds life in balance, still,
Warm with life
Cold with death
The fine line drawn between
Imperious over lifeblood’s flow
Inscribed, in font Gothic,
The Owl’s name is POE
Gently, the writer places the hood over POE’s eyes and kisses the top of his head. Our writer, dear reader, brings out her Queen’s Slippers. Hearts are in her mind, she’s playing “NO TRUMPS”.

1. In Australia, the Joker in the Queen's Slipper brand of playing cards depicts a Kookaburra, a bird native to Australia with a call that famously resembles human laughter. In Australian games of 500, the Joker is often referred to colloquially as "The Bird"

With my girlfriend in tip top condition
To film sex scenes for late television
She got sick in bed
So I went instead
And was heckled with spiteful derision
Well their laughter had made me feel silly
As I stood there butt naked and chilly
They said, “Get a hair dryer,
Or an electric fire,
For you sure need to warm up that willy.”
The director called three naked geezers
Who he said were real audience pleasers
Then he looked at my lot
And said, “Let’s get this shot,
With my new close up lens… and some tweezers.”
Grabbed a sock and ran home in the nuddy
And I tripped in a field, wet and cruddy
But I’d slipped on the sock
So my girl got a shock
When just one bit of me wasn’t muddy

That’s my self respect gone for a burton…
Then the morning sun shone through my curtain
I awoke in my bed
“Only dreaming,” I said
But I took a quick peek to be certain
“The Lost Daughter”
Thursday walked through the doors on a Tuesday
She sat in the Waiting Room,
the place smelled too sterile,
Antiseptic wash,
rank clean with soaps of fine lyes
no rugs to sweep bulldust under
such shiny spotless floors,
All open doors
Effective, efficient,
cold and distant
No blow flies
Time ticking raw.
Saturday was far away
Learning about "policy"
and how to "fairly" play,
walking down bustling University Halls
shining bright sun,
traversing all manners of shade
The Lost Daughter
looked in the bathroom mirror
Hazel Green eyes double take
she did gaze
Occasionally she heard Thursday calling her name
She turned on the faucets,
washed her hands,
singing a song about
"A Brand New Day"
turned her back to better things, and
swiftly walked out the swinging door
into the fray.
The Lost Daughter
left on a Saturday
She watched 3
dreams slip away
How to communicate
all that she wanted to say
Love was all she possessed
THE biggest gift,
to leave on their pillows
She blew them her kiss
an imprint on small brains
Like "Wind in the Willows"
“Take my hand”, He said,
“no need to worry, although it's too soon,
we will work out a way”.
“You’re up next,” the matron relayed, “let’s get you ready”.
The Lost Daughter sucked in the Aether and breathed. She replied,
“Bring it on, I’m game”.
