What is Friendship

What is friendship, who is to say
How do we know, when it comes our way
Who is this person, what have they got
Are they a friend ,or are they not
Look in the mirror, who do you see
Who is that looking back at me
There may be work, some things to mend
The answer, must be, my best friend
Don't look away, don't close your eyes
Try that thought on just for size
That thought must fit, for in the end
Befriend yourself, to be a friend
With that said, now draw the line
You like yourself and that is fine
But all is not about just you
All others are their best friends too
Share with others, with no regret
Give of yourself and you will get
More than you could ever think
Come to the well and take a drink
Fill the glass to quench your thirst
Offer some to others first
Take your drink last, and at the end
I'm sure you will have made a friend

The Best Company Ever

I love so much the book company,
More than anything in the world,
More than cats or butterflies,
Looking at the books in my room, soothe me,
Henry James amazes me, what intelligence,
Yachar Kemal makes me travel on Turkish roads
The pleasure of writing, of thinking, they offered that to me,
Books calm me more than anything,
Carl Sandburg, Billy Collins, Thucydides,
They are landscapes, angels from heaven,
Jean Giono amazes me; I go with him to Manosque,
My library offers me so many joys, Apollinaire, Sam Shepard,,
Just looking at books makes me dream,
I’m thinking about Jack London, I’ve read everything,
He made history, so humanly, such humility,
I think of Marcel Proust, a genius,
Style makes the man, especially à l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs
I love so much the book company,
Camus, Alejo Carpentier makes me intelligent, so to speak,
They understood me, every word, every story, every verb,
Books understand me
More than people, Kafka, Faulkner, Joyce, understand us,
They reassure me with their titles, their presences,
What would we be without books?
Thank them; look at them, life is short,
They are the best friends in the world.

I Fancy Another Sad Poem Contest

Imagine a lovely garden, tea for two, and this story,
Five Years spent with a love and all its blissful glory,
Imagine summer nights making love beneath the stars,
Then imagine one day all your joy becoming painful scars,
Imagine one day while enjoying a beautiful breezy day,
He comes along and tells you he has something he needs to say,
Imagine while the fall leaves descend,
He tells you that he met a friend,
Imagine tears swelling up in your eyes while you try to stay intact,
Then he kisses you on the cheek and says he is never coming back,
Imagine knowing your holding his child in your precious womb,
Now you sit there silent, feeling like you’ve met your doom,
Imagine feeling rage and sorrow,
Never wanting to see tomorrow,
Imagine that what makes it worse,
Is that this man was also your first,
Imagine contemplating in your mind,
If not telling him would not be kind,
Imagine as he leaves the table,
You realize you’re not even financially stable,
Imagine as he walks toward the door,
His phone rings and you drop your jaw,
Imagine your best friends on the other line
you hear her asking him if "I am fine"
Imagine how a fire begins to start burning,
My stomachs is in knots and is painfully turning,
Imagine rain clouds suddenly appearing,
The sun it starts disappearing,
Imagine me letting him walk out that door,
Never telling him about his son in six months I will bore,
Imagine as he pulls out of my long driveway,
A truck does not see him and he swerves right off the highway,
Imagine, just imagine…

Friends Forever

Friends forever.

One of my best friends died today
Left me before I had the chance to say

Exactly what I always wanted to express
My favorite friend one of my best

Friends from the beginning friends to the end
Best of friends so deep within

Friends are those you'll love to remember
Regardless of who regardless of gender

The people you've shared part of your life with
Never asking of much, always willing to give.

When's the last time you called a friend
Or are you just going to wait till the end

Their life will be gone before you know
Call them or find a simple way to show

Just how much they mean to you
A friend who's been your friend so true

Or sit there like there's no end
Until you lose another friend.

I find this very hard to say
One of my best friends died today.

Premium Member But Never Love

Finding something really harsh
in something that has been said
we are best friends
to awaken to the sweet birds
golden sun streaming through the curtains
painting with golden warmth

Singing in many different tunes
never ever a movie ever after crossed the sweetest thoughts
forever lovingly existing dreams
are about looking across shadows painting light
around the mountain dreaming faraway in the distance
this minute in a life time

I am captured in your space thinking
inside smiling I can hear dogs faraway
barking in the distance dreaming
your voice so uplifting sings
in a gentle soft warm touching morning breeze
destiny lands on fate sealed in this heart

With love I ate a thousand fireflies
lighthouse of Alexender calls over sands
now my feelings are bubbling and steaming all over you
moist morning dew of thoughts
one perfect beautiful rainbow
shows a beautiful pathway
the first in my life
breathtaking in the mountains where I live
to kiss and hug you I found my pot of gold
all I ask in love is never let me go

Tick Tock

Tick tock…. Tick tock….
Time is winding down on this internal and emotional clock.
Memories that feel as if they happened yesterday,
Are nothing now but moments that do nothing but fade away.
The ever so lovable person you once knew,
Slowly passes you by, without one single clue.
The good times that were all once shared,
Seem to exist as if you were never even there.
Years fly by, and best friends die….
You’ll never know when you’ll say your final goodbye.
Do you wish now that you could turn back time?
And cherish when I was yours and you were mine?
Or go back in time even more,
Feeling like you’re that little kid in a candy store?
Do you miss the way it used to feel,
When I would show you my love and show that it was real?
Living with a purpose to be greater than many,
Whether it was twenty years or one hundred-twenty.
Living with the future in mind,
Because we knew by acting in the moment, life wasn’t very kind.
I wish I could go back to the joys of yesterday,
But instead, I’m faced with the memories all fading away.
So it’s back to reality… it’s back to today.
It’s back to a heart with no feelings, a voice with no words to say.
No words to say….
No words to say….
Tick tock…. Tick tock….
Time has run out on this inner emotional clock.

Heroes

When you think of heroes, who comes to mind?
Who inspires you the most?
Could it be a sports athlete on the court or the field?
It could be fictional characters like Spider-Man or The S.H.I.E.L.D.
Maybe it's one of your teachers in school;
Or your best friends who are just like you, totally cool.
Your pastor in church, a doctor or nurse,
Your parents/grandparents who warn you not to curse:
It might be your neighbor you see everyday
Or someone in the military fighting for the USA.
A famous singer, an actor, an activist;
A guidance counselor, your siblings, possibly a therapist;
Maybe a police officer or firefighter? That's a pretty long list.
So who do you look up to as your hero?
Think before you answer and try not to boast.
Not all heroes wear capes, as you can see,
But there is a hero inside of you and me.

Premium Member I Ran But Could Not Escape

I saw him and I knew he was my destiny
So I ran but I could not escape.
He was right there.
He was talking about children.
Children! I was fifteen.
What fifteen year old wants children?
I NEVER wanted children.
He was persistent, which annoyed me.
I was totally not thinking along the same lines.
I was young, I wanted to live a little.
We became best friends; he did not relent.
We separated and went to different states to college.
I could not keep my hands off him over Christmas.
I had missed him terribly. He was my destiny.
We have been married forty-nine years.
I still cannot keep my hands off him.

Premium Member My Four Best Friends

Did you ever miss me dearly,
When you moved away?
I used to feel as if you weren’t worthy,
But in reality you are one of best friends for me.

Did you ever wonder how else it’d be,
When you had a new best friend other than me?
I used to feel as if I drowned in secret jealousy,
But in reality you are still whom I cherished.

Did you ever reflect on the past,
When you were returning homewards?
I used to feel as if you were boring,
But in reality you are another of my good friends.

Did you ever consider not changing your façade,
When I left to go home for the holidays?
I used to feel as if the sorrow in me was building,
But in reality you are someone I was fated to meet.

Did you, my friends, ever feel lonely?
When I think of it all in a way,
I’m used to letting life have its way at my feelings,
But in reality you’re all important to me!
