Premium Member Morning Routines

What do theologians call a life without events?

The lights of my prison-like room dawn before sun's first blush.
I open sand-papery eyes as my AI announces the morning.

I begin the puppetry of morning routines:
I study my pale inmate face as I polish the porcelain.

I look less of a drowsy-angel than a zombie as I splash cold water
on the face with an almost determined lack of expression.

I’m absorbed in an ocean of predawn cold
as I 5-mile-walk away my sleepiness - this small freedom
- keeps me fit and acceptably sane.

Later, bathed in hot indifference,
and clothed in exhausting obligations,
I dine, at my reserved table, with my gang of irritations.

Soon I’m ready for another taxing day
of waiting for the disease to run its course.

Two-Fifteen

TWO-FIFTEEN

The chiming clock announces two-fifteen.
Three tortured hours I’ve played it in my head,
Recalling every moment of the scene,
Remembering the bitter words we said.
‘Til, at the end you said you needed air
And slammed the door and ran into the night.
While, stubbornly, I thought I didn’t care;
You’d soon come back conceding I was right.
It’s rained since twelve and you’ve been gone too long.
You’ll catch your death and I’m the one to blame.
I need you here to tell you I was wrong.
I need to hear you whispering my name.
At last, you’re there, rain mingling with tears,
Safe in my arms: I kiss away your fears

Premium Member Catness

It’s a Saturday afternoon worth waiting for. It’s 52°f and the sky is clear except for a scattering of popcorn clouds. I’m eating lunch with Sophy, Lisa, Anna (my roommates) and Peter (a friend) at one of the two residential dining halls that have the best pizza (yeah, you KNOW who you are).

We’re touching base before we scatter, shrapnel like, for the night. I’ll be hemmed-up by circumstance and in my most diligent work-mode. I have a presentation due Monday.

Sophy says, reading from at her laptop, “Research suggests that cat owners are seen as better looking and have more sex.”

“I have two cats,” I say, “at home.” I preen in my double-catness.

“I’m a cat owner!” Anna announces.

“My cat DIED.” Lisa reveals sadly.

“THAT cat did its JOB,” Sophy pronounced saliently, as if proof for the study.

“I grew up in a cat house,” Peter says.

“Ooo! YOU must have learned a LOT!” I say, batting my eyes seductively.

“Maybe we should get a cat HERE!” Sophy suggests.

“To cement our status!” Anna laughs.

The pizza was really good.

Premium Member Cherish Your Life Always

Cherish Your Life Always

Cherish your life and never the strife,
as you face with grace all you must do.

This may be challenging at times for sure,
yet it is part of who we are in this life’s run.

Life is God’s gift to all of us no doubt,
as we each seek to find ourselves in life.

Each and every one of us in our lives are
gifted with a God-given purpose and self.

It is just a question of how each of us seek
and desire to find our true purpose and self.

Tintinnabulation is an incredibly unique word
for sounding all of what we feel and hear aloud.

This celebrated jingling of metaphoric bells
announces our purpose, passion, and feelings.

The “always” part of the formative four-word title
above speaks to the magic of life to be cherished.

Without our aspirations, our musings, our thoughts,
then who the hell are we in this life and hope to be?

I believe now that Almighty God already knows this
this question, do we? Answers shall come later. Amen.

Premium Member Our Friend, the Sun

When morning comes and grass is dewed,
one looks beyond the window's view
The crimson sky, announces you
You spread a warmth, with revelry,
You take our breaths, you awe the eyes
Old friend, possessor of the sky,
you tint each cloud while passing by
O' morning friend, O' rising sun…You never fail to come !

Over the rooftops, over my lawn, over the crest of early dawn

Warming,………greeting,…………….skimming along…….

You come each day, to blush my face, your gentle fingers know the way
From morning’s path, long past noon, from east to west, a well worn task
You race across the time and space, an ancient clock, while keeping pace

And as the twilight comes too soon, you blaze a trail with redder hues
And ‘tho I know how soon you’ll go… I wonder why I miss you so…?

My brilliant friend, O' setting sun, it’s time to wave a sad farewell
I wonder why, when fading dim, you play for me, a sadder song?

Yet, still I’m here, in silent awe, to watch you burn away

Slowly………fading………………………………………gone

Premium Member Tasting Poetry

Today I am without inspiration
and write a poem
not with words but with
chuck beef cubed and coated
in flour, seared in a pot
until golden brown
then deglazed with a good cup
of cabernet sauvignon - I pack
the lines with shallots, celery,
carrots, seasoning and a can
of crushed tomatoes and then cook it
for hours in a gentle oven.

I savour the smell all day,
hear it bubble in the silence
as it deepens
within the dark magic of itself,
taking on meaning beyond
its mere ingredients. Lifting
the lid, the thick crusted gravy
announces its completion.
Come, take a spoon
and plunge it into its depths.
