GONNA PUSH THROUGH

It's a beginning of a new season

the beginning of a new session

For the student, after last session

The season for promotion to the next

At Sapele Technical College, Sapele

College of creativity and insights

A prominent school near by, good in craft

Construction, catering, business admin and more

They return happy, healthy and ready

Ready? to study ahead for their exams

Happy? For it's their final year session

Healthy? to face the season without drifting

Finally we meet again, happily said by the teacher

They were happy, to be back in school

Happy? to re-unite with friends again after been away

Attention said again by the teacher while

Smiling happily he ought, as they converse

Yelling !!!!

Teacher; when it's too hard??

Students; Gonna push through!!

Teacher; Because??

Students; Capable of doing anything

We puts our minds to

Teacher; But seems impossible??

Students; That's not true!!

Teacher; Why??

Students; We always overcome that which

we put our minds to without despair

The teacher whispered softly;

Wanna push through, stay consistent

Without resistance

Be open and receptive to learning

A reason for the season and session.

THE LANTERN THIEF

songer.co/song/gbjf8mricor1t2bjzcdayoeq

Verse 1
On the ridge, a man swings a lantern…
No fire inside, yet he parades it.
He gathers stray glimmers, calls them briefly his own…
Ridge winds whisper: your light’s a borrowed tone.

Chorus
Lantern wide… he marches on…
Every flicker… he calls his own… (his own)
Plains sense the hollow heat…
Flames reveal truth, even in your play…
La da… la da…
La da… la da…

Verse 2
Kneeling where old fires faded…
He lifts embers like newborn gold.
He reaches for dreams… leaves ash behind…
Truth in the dirt recalls all told.

Chorus
Lantern wide… he marches on…
Every flicker… he calls his own… (his “own”)
Plains sense the hollow heat…
Flames reveal truth, even in your play…
La da… la da…
La da… la da…

Bridge
Nightfolk nodded under starlit dust…
A tune set loose… like Wilde’s whisper thrust…
“Talent borrows,” an arrow soft yet true…
Strikes the chest… leaving its due behind…

Verse 3
He heard the tune… and laughed at measure…
Called the stray verse… a minor treasure…
Plains stayed quiet… watchers kept on listening…
Truth drifts under empty skies… glinting…
A lantern gleaming… in places it never shone…
Tells a tale only sharpened eyes recognize…

Final Chorus
Lantern wide… he marches on…
Every flicker… he calls his own…
Plains sense the hollow heat…
Flames reveal truth, even in your play…
La da… la da…
La da… la da…

Note: The lantern thief steals his glimmer of light from another’s flame, and then parades it as if it’s his own. The “plains” (regular poets see it), the “watchers” (soup admin) just watch, sometimes rewarding the thief for his “borrowed” light. While the lantern thief remains completely blind that everyone knows he’s a fraud.

Premium Member Lacking integrity

Let’s be brutally honest with each other
AI poems are being posted on soup
Can be seen on a daily basis
Keep seeing the same names produce it
I don’t bother alerting admin as
Nothing gets done, so instead I
Go and seek genuine poems… HOWEVER

I USED to read a poem and comment
Now I often copy and paste them
To check for AI, and sadly I
Even search for plagiarism and
Get infuriated when I find it. I’d
Really love an explanation how a dead poet
Is able to post THEIR poem here on the site
The time has come to clean up the soup bowl
Yes let’s rid the site of cheaters and fakers!

Like April showers

her tears suddenly started

                                         f

                                                                        l

                                                l

                               i

                                                    n

                                                                                     g

then they quickly dried

We hugged
and we talked
and we cried
and cried some more

then …

there was laughter
as we reminisced
and remembered the happy times we once shared

Out of order is my pc
Awful thing to happen to me

I try to judge poetry contests
Impossible on iPhone I confess

Admin says soup made for computers
Makes me feel like a big fat loser

Indeed I lost fuchsia flexibility
Lost files in my purple cemetery

That’s where in my old files
I saved old trash poem piles

Poems gone before saved to iCloud
They weren’t good but I miss them now

For they were like mind flowers
Some weak discreet some with power

I guess they are also like a diary
Full of secrets writes wrongs dreams

Out of order no television or pc
I’ve a phone a home and peace

The Kings Craw

I’m sure sometime tomorrow, we’ll have our sad goodbye
now make your last attempt, to try and make us cry
once more a broken promise, lays shattered on the floor
another failed attempt, like so many times before
they poke at other poets, then retreat into their hole
why must they pour more vinegar, into our poetry bowl
venting on a blog is against this site’s decree
and now you’ve used a name, for everyone to see
a screen shot has been taken, for admin, I’ll send it in
but when you least expect it, till then I’ll store it in my bin
you need to read the rules, you’re not above the law
your spitting days are over, now let that stick into your craw

We’ve had some run ins with the admin and Tommy Boy as well,
and the blunder from down under, who forever seemed to smell.
We’ve been chastised and cursed, some have even called us names,
others have hit us from behind with their silly childish games.

We’ve been banished from this site and made to recite each rule,
some have treated us unfairly and have even been quite cruel.
We’ve been shunned by many poets, who have never known the truth,
many more have been the target, of the ones long in the tooth.

Now let us do some math, and see just how this works,
exactly why this site exists and what they get for perks.
Whenever we post a poem, or some lyrics for a song,
each view gives them a hit, but with zero they get the gong.

They get our annual membership and lifetimes paid in full,
don’t forget the advertisers, we are forced to read their bull.
Whenever you have a poet with a ton of poems and views,
just be sure to judge them fairly and never ignore the clues.

Premium Member A Tribute

This is a well deserved tribute that I'd like to share
For those wonderful people working in our health care
Doctors, nurses, paramedics and admin staff too
Auxiliaries and cleaners risking their lives for you.

All over the world ex health staff answered a call
To form with ex colleagues a formidable wall
Against the Coronavirus that's bringing death and misery
Infecting thousands of people in every country.

Many people have come forward offering their services too
Performing none medical tasks that nurses often do
And those vulnerable people who are living in isolation
Looked after by volunteers bringing food and medication.

Father Beradelli an Italian priest his life he did give
Refusing a ventilator so that a younger person might live
The list of good deeds by strangers whom we'll never know
Would fill volumes of books and continues to grow.

The army, police and fire-fighters are playing a part too
Trying to keep some normality for me and for you
Shops and supermarket staff too are on the front line
Delivery drivers moving goods to secure a lifeline.

There are many more unseen heroes not mentioned here
But memories of their actions we will always hold dear
You the reader can play your part even one small kind deed
By helping neighbours and strangers in their hour of need.

Agony

Like the rain they are
Wet! wet!! wet!!!
Filled with the pain of letting you go
Red like furnace they blaze
For the thoughts of you in another man's arms keep them awake overnight every blessed day
The same eyes your beauty has made happy
Is the same eyes your absence is brutally torturing
Making them swell without being eulogised
Like ogboju ode inu igbo irumole our memories daily hunt me
Sleepless nights at the admin basement
Unending laughter at the Library entrance
Hours of waiting and talking at Moremi basement
All have turned my reality and my company everywhere I go
Not just because you are my favourite reason for having sleepless nights
but because I can hardly do anything without thinking of you

I’ve decided to have me a seat and tell you what’s on my mind.
The following words are original, they are nobody else’s but mine.
They may not be very polished, and my grammar might not be just right.
I will never be a great poet, but I sleep quite well at night.

This is not some artificial intelligence, it’s just my fingers on keys.
These rhymes are just for fun, kind of like the birds and the bees.
There is no one I seek to impress, just hoping for a smile or two.
My grass will never be greener, and my sky contains the same blue.

I might write a little about faith, or maybe my incredible wife.
You might hear a line about gas or some of the truth in my life.
Feel free to turn up your nose, you will find that I really don’t care.
I will always be true to my friends, and immune to each snobby stare.

Go ahead and copy my words, you can even pass them off as your own.
My walls are all made of glass, so it can be you to cast the first stone.
Feel free to do as you please, our admin will not even look.
The dishonest will continue to plagiarize, then brag about writing a book.
