~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The kitchen hums~
flour dust in the air
like December’s first snow.
Her knuckles,
cracked as the recipe card’s edges,
work butter into sugar,
a sacrament of crumbling.
Cinnamon whispers the old language~
the one she brought over in a tin,
tucked
between hymn books and grief.
The oven sighs.
The dough remembers.
When it emerges
golden, crackled~
we eat it warm,
our fingers sticky
with the past.
POEM 1
Hallo, Ich bin bewolkt
Ich mag Kase
Mein Hund ist nass
Ich liebe meinen Hund
Das Kuchen ist nass
Ich liebe meinen Kuchen
Ich bin glucklich
Limerick crochetés: Once Angela signed pact with Doctor Jeckel
Once Angela signed pact with Doctor Jeckel
Needed urgent help her kitchen all pell-mell
	In far-off torn country
	People turned refugee
By turnip-head Mephistopheles in Hell
Angela’s wise friend Faust told her to toll bell
To tell the world how much her heart bled with knell
	She’ll take in all who flee
	Bitten by bee or flea
Life-jackets galore Mephisto jumped to sell
In Mid-Land-Sea punctured floats jackets did spell
Drowned refugee yells worse than arrows Will’ Tell
	Angie slurped sea-green tea
	With Jeckel invitee
While survivors charged through blockades raising Hell
If Angela dug an underground Chunnel
From her kitchen to Mephisto-lands un-well
	Käse-Kuchen* Mummy
	Made by hands refugee
To boost her economy – Angela! Hail!
Schwartzwaelder Traume
Der schoene Schwartzwald wo man wanderen kann,
Die Natur reich und wohlhabend,
Der Prinz und die Princessin wohnen da in ihr Chalet,
Sie baeckt schoene Kuchen und er baekt schoenes Brot,
Nachmittags sitzen sie zusammen mit ihre Freunde im Kaffee,
Haben eine schoene Tasse Kaffee und Schwartawaelder Kuchen,
Dann gehen sie wandern auf die schoene Wanderwege,
Grosse Tannen und huebsche Baueme wachsen da,
Voegel zwisheren melodisch und singen ein schoenes Lied,
Abends kocht sie eine fantastische Mahlzeit mit Kartoffeln,Fisch und Gemuse,
Sie singen zusammen und sie spielt Klavier,
Was fuer ein herrliche Tag es war zusammen.
