Evergreen corpses strewn on sidewalks
like victims of plague,
still adorned with specks of tinsel
abandoned and forlorn
once welcome houseguests now in the street
never to greet another New Year
all the presents unwrapped
put in proper place
beside last years loot of
sweaters, records and notebooks
never got written in
nothing to drink and no money for the bar
the food all gone except for leftovers
that no longer appear appetizing
to the eyes of yuletide withdrawal
I walk down the street
and see no one,
all the decorations down
on television Jimmy Stewart
kisses Donna Reed for eternity
and here I am.

Who will tell how I roped the moon
When life has changed from place to place
And only in mind will be seen my face
Who will tell the stories I lived
How will be known my life a gift
The places I've wandered the wonders I've met
The good that came with no regret
Stories I've told and no one heard
Who will be left to carry my word
Christ if He did not already know
Would have questioned what He had to show
So many listened but never heard
His heart He poured out in every word
Jimmy Stewart was shown his life in a nights swoon
From saving his brother to roping the moon
From saving his town and his families birth
He then knew his life he then knew his worth
Who will show my life for me in time coming soon
Who will tell how I roped the moon

His years spanned 1908-1997
reaching the grand age of 89
played many a character in his life
giving each one his special shine
My memories of Jimmy Stewart
goes back many a year for me
'Dear Brigitte' was the first I saw
a lovely film seeing the lovelier BB
Jimmy covered many different parts
of many types he did play
he was so good in westerns
'Winchester 73 and 'Shenandoah' made my day
He loved music also too
played the accordion as well as sing
showed this talent on the screen
'Glenn Miller story' was the real thing
The movie 'What a Wonderful Life'
George Bailey was his most famous role
this was his favourite movie
in it our hearts he stole
'Rear Window' alongside Grace Kelly
was a favourite also for many a fan
but there were so many to highlight
in a life of a ordinary man
James Stewart had a voice like no other
with such a recognisable drawl
it made his appeal so much greater
many great memories we're left to recall

It's a wonderful life
became a favourite Christmas hit
a movie to thrill and inspire
a classic film it is it
Starred the marvellous Jimmy Stewart
assisted by the lovely Donna Reed
focused on man's guardian angel
each one's protector it is indeed
This movie asks an important question
what if we had never been born
never indeed been known
to the world we be foreign
Looking back on our life
has it made any impact?
what if we never came here?
never to be a fact
So be very thankful
for all you have got
remember and never forget
history reveals more than you thought

On lifes long road, who knows where are the ends
and when the ones we love leave us alone
what words express the loss of dearest friends
held oh! so dear, whom all the world has known?
Was this their highway junction to all time?
Our grief would be too great for only one,
and three together taken, shouldn't rhyme
but brings reality now that they're gone.
Out on the road, with Charlie, Bob and Jim,
we see ourselves in all they've ever done,
as memories, some bright and others grim,
from reel to reel, and love them every one.
They told our stories, every one was real,
as if they knew exactly how we feel.

SPIRIT EYE OF PERCEPTION
Zuzu’s petals were reality-checks for George Bailey, his third eye.
If they were in his pocket, his life was real;
If not, it was a dream. They were proof of reality.
You tweak yourself to confirm it’s no dream;
Alarm clock breaks your reverie with its squeak;
Cold water on your face will intrude into sleep;
Face-slap for the hysterical, to return to the subdued -
All confirm your perception of the real world awake.
Proof’s not always painful, just says who you truly are.
Childhood-recalled foghorn reminds you who in life was important.
We like living in a misty mystery fantasy world and need to warn ourselves.
Everyone has his check-mechanism and reality test. Everyone carries his Zuzu petal.

NOTE: George Bailey ( Jimmy Stewart ) was the main character
in the movie IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE. Zuzu was his daughter.
