Shame

Hot on the heels of need
A feeling like no other
A crawling, spreading sensation
Insides leaking out
Too painful to show
Too needy
Too sticky
Repulsive and ugly
Overwhelming urge to hide
Curl up; defend with rejection
Soothe with avoidance
The bliss, however temporary, of numbness
Until
Need is awoken again

New Wine

I chased down the days of my youth
hot on the heels, became a sleuth
then suddenly plucked off the vine
savor me like glass of new wine

I still have many fields to sow
hands to hold, and pain to let go
desperately cling to a sign
savor me like glass of new wine

I’ve tasted bitter sweet and tart
and had sour grapes before I’d start
now it is with wisdom I dine
savor me like glass of new wine

I might lose my way, crash and burn
waste another day, rash but learn
remind myself it will be fine
savor me like glass of new wine

So, this is my first Kyrielle and I'm not that proud of it. I realize fine wine might sound
better, but it wouldn't really convey what I meant. Inspired by a conversation about
wine age and maturity. Hope you enjoy.
