Hondo Poems

Painless? Suicide is Breathless!

Go! New York Herald Tribune! Yell it, Jean!
I think that Marcel Proust once owned that condo.
Belmondo never acts – he’s just Belmondo.
You’re no Liz Taylor – no Egyptian queen –
So, New York Herald Tribune! Your big scene!
Were you too young to play the chick in “Hondo”?
This is the age of “Cuando, Cuando, Cuando” –
No singer, you? Lee Marvin’s never been!
You didn’t do the cop shows (I know why),
or enter those kung-fu things, like The Dragon:
auditioning is hard. The FBI
observed you as you tried to paint your wagon.
Was Iwo Jima where you chose to die,
or just a place for guys to pin a flag on?

Premium MemberSeptember Tenth

How deep
The Rio Hondo?
Mopan, Sarstoon
They flow... deep as gratitude
Deep as our forefather's breath
Fighting on to victory
September Tenth, of
Seventeen Ninety-Eight,
Please remember.

John Waynes Red River Buckle

John Wayne rode across the screen
And was able to beat the bad guys no matter how mean
Look at Red River as a movie about a cattle drive
With Wayne the trail boss so alive

This movie was one of his best
And for his Westerns made above the rest
If you look closely he always wore the Red River belt buckle aloud
Given to him by Howard Hawks who directed the Red River so proud

And look at the wanted posters in the Sheriff offices closely
You will see Hondo and his other characters mostly
So next time you are enjoying these movies now
Look for these things showing your know how.

The Ballad of Rithee Rithwando

Oh, I'm Rithee Rithwando
And I live in a condo
On a beach called Redondo
With a girl who's bleach blondo.

And we practice Tae Kwon Do
As we're singing in Rondo
With Don Hector Elizondo
Whom we're very, very fondo.

And he once asked me, "Cuando
"Can you post bail bondo,
"For I'm stuck in Orlondo
"And I cannot abscondo."

"When you give me your Hondo
"Whose top speed is beyondo,"
So sez I to Hectorondo
From the sands of blue Redondo.

"Oye! Not for il mondo
"Or el mejor magic wando
"Would I give you my Hondo,"
Replied Mister Elizondo.

"See you next year," I told him.

Feathery Arrows

Deep in the feathered woods, my ancestors wait
 Ghostly haunting quite solace
Lighted forest of there paths connect
Soft light enters to sooth there souls

 Celeste beings shelter there comings
My heart feels the sadness, they left behind
Each eagles wing dance the heart canto Hondo beat
Vesper be the broken promises long ago

Glazed palettes are beyond ones conscious
Effulgence shall be the forgiven of all angels
Each lost trumpeted blare with flames
The highest amber flute dances in the dawn

Her silence is over come with joy, wolfs soul
As the one who is chosen rises from depths of darkness
 To reveal the ancestor rose
Emerald sea,Thru shared dreams time begins the lighted vessel journey

Durex

Durex was popular in a NY condo
His wife was Kimono Toyota Hondo
                                       They went to Okamoto
Passed the night in a grotto
Left ratty rubbers in the bag of Londo

The King of Rondo

The King of Rondo bought a crystal ball
The Queen of Hondo was young and small
            They married each other
The King of Rondo sold the crystal ball
The Queen of Hondo was killed in a brawl

The Song of Rio Hondo

Beneath the fuschia painted sky of the setting sun,
war torn houses still burning,
razed into rubbles along the river banks of rio hondo,
with walls devastated by bombs' explosions,
and one by one the ceilings began to fly.

The river's shallow but crystal clear water,
with green sea weeds, mussels and oysters,
once our childhoods' undisturbed playground,
instantly became the unholy graveyard of the
slain MNLF fighters,
decaying cadavers scattered everywhere
like worthless pieces of garbages,
worst than dead animals,
arms detached and eaten by the dogs displaced
by the war they had created,
brains splattered by bullets on mangrooves' roots,
and face swollen with worms appeared beyond recognition.

While the river that once flowed with
the rhythm of neo-gothicism,
singing with the sweet harmonies from the
birds under the falling rain,
but the chords suddenly went out of tune,
disturbed by the torrential beat of a
violent human upheaval,
the orchestra of war bombs, cannons, and guns raised
the flags of war concerts,
and the water ran wild with the musical
note of destruction,
hysterically dancing along the melodies of blood,
a tragic symphony of death.

Hondo Died Yesterday

Hondo Died Yesterday

By Rick Rucker
“Hondo died yesterday,”
I heard the news, I said “No way!”

He seemed so big, and strong,
I was sure he would enjoy a life, very long,

Always there, with a joke,
Or a cigar to smoke,

In his eye, a devilish spark,
Or from his mouth, a wise remark,

With the ladies, an unrepentant flirt,
In a Tommy Bahama shirt,

Such was his fame,
We were all drawn to him, as moths to a flame!

When he was born, they broke the mold,
There couldn’t be two so bold,

It wouldn’t do to have more than one,
We couldn’t take so much fun!

I know I will miss him every day,
But most especially on a car show Sunday,

Someone else will man the mike,
No disrespect, but he will be like,

Comparing bodywork to Bondo,
No one else could be like Hondo!
