There was an old woman fron Shem.
Uponst hearing a bad word, sighed, "Amen"
One day, sadly, choked on her phlegm.
Her cost of holiness was death.
Alas~ in heaven now with no breath!

Holier than thou
Not giv’n to pray, they were grey monks
‘Mid the holy band, ole’ Father John
Who was a gansta and wanksta,
Held command with some merry wives
That were healed of un-upright-nesses
Of them was Johanna selle her belle chose
And walke as fresh as is a red rose.
Many ministered unto him their substance.
Such was then pious lusty man of this crowd
This monk possess’d such wond’rous pow’r
To rub out the sin that Satan chalk’d upon
And gave fresh license to start afresh.
Near, in a farm house liv’d this gay dame
Quite clever in throwing a spanner in works
Father John sought the cell ev’ry week
Once a thump at the door, the husband came
Who was dodgy and a nutter
Punished the father with his thick stick.
Till he confessed "no he’d play the priest".

Demon possession is seen through spiritual eyes
The clarity of it so transparent you see it with your eyes closed
To be told you have them is like a dreaded disease
The mere knowledge of it transforms you
Questions pour in yearning for answers
I am confused
But I pray with you?…… I pray for you
How do you see the evil in me?
My prayers do not suffice to your standards?
Am I raising my voice to the wrong god?
Am I praying wrong?
Show me the path oh ye of righteousness
Are you the chosen one?
Your abilities to spot the not amazes me
Your purity petrifies me
Knowledge of truth is embedded in your bones
The depth of your understanding surpasses all
Please do not dare lift your eyes towards me
For fear you might be disgusted and go blind
I wonder
Do the others see the evil in me?
Am I stumbling them?
Am I making their pathway to righteousness narrow?
I am confused
I pray with you……I pray for you
I am trying to be near you
All you see is demons in me
It is painful to hear you say that
I am scared to pray
What if…
What if i….
I will gather the strength to look at you
To see your holiness
I am looking but… but….
I have heard of you before… Legion?

Saturday night sinners belly up to the bar
Not a worry, not a care
Come Sunday morning, it will all be alight
Heading to church in a fancy car
Got to get there before the Jones get there
And forget about last night
Saturday night juke box, now singing in the choir
Halo is crooked and nose in the air
After the sermon, got to go teach Sunday school
Warning sinners of Hell's burning fire
"Oh how they need a prayer"
"We are so blessed living by our Golden Rule"
The preacher is preaching the Holy Word
Worn to a frazzle with his last request
"Who is going to pay for this new church wing"
And the plate is passed through the herd
But they do their best
And the preacher tells the choir to sing
Down the street, in the shade of an old oak tree
Down on his knees, a sinner is praying
In a church built by God
"Lord, will you please forgive me"
"I hope that you can hear what I am saying"
Wonder who is the most believed by God"

Two men went up to the temple to pray,
A Pharisee, a publican, each a different way.
The hypocrite stood up and prayed out loud
In his priestly robe with lofty eyes so proud,
"God, thank you that I'm not like any other man,
The extortioner, unjust, the adulterer - this publican!
I fast twice a week unlike those who transgress
And I give tithes of everything that I possess."
Then the tax collector standing at a distance
Would not lift his eyes in his disdainful existence.
He beat upon his breast with his lowly thoughts, inner,
While saying, "Oh God, be merciful unto me a sinner."
So that man went down to his house justified
Rather than the other in his vanity and his pride,
Who says, "I am holier than thou so keep away;
Stand by yourself, " for he is a fire that burns all day.
He shall be downcast for how he has misbehaved;
Yet, the contrite is lifted... the humble person is saved.
He's exalted in due time and under God's hand is graced,
But the haughty is resisted by Him, opposed and abased.
