scientists announce that one species of today derived from dinosaurs
I am trying to guess which one
snakes?
alligators?
crocodiles?
rhinos?
hippopotamuses?
the answer is birds.
If you have ever seen a crane with a giant wing span
you would fully understand this.
When it flies it looks like a pterodactyl.

Anxious about my poems
the need to write still today resides
Of late I've written about politics
truth imparts its ardour
But I need to write about nature
how acorns adorn the arcane ground,
autumnal smoke as an epitaph
or how Hippopotamuses cake themselves in mud
I need more stellar poems,
resurfacing in a tropical river,
In far off Africa
lifts my poetic soul.

Ancient Egyptians had terrific mummification skills
They practiced on a variety of lesser animals
hippopotamuses, cats, dogs, camels, and apes
there is non-living proof of their talents in their tombs
pharaohs and their queens were also mummified
Their mummification techniques are still admired today

A Bed of Hay
Across the fields a long time ago,
Where sparrows flew and lilies grew,
I skipped in play oblivious to hate,
And ran with the wind and sang with the beasts.
And slept on a bed of hay in America,
And dreamed of my home in Africa,
Where my heart gazed upon the children,
Who experience the breath of freedom.
Where the big cats prowl and elephants tramp,
And wildebeest herds roam the savannas.
And rivers churn with hippopotamuses,
And jungles swell with birds and gorillas.
And wonder what it would be like to be young again,
Without the child gone, free of pain.

There were slimy spotted frogs jumping out of the oaks,
Slickest yellow raincoats worn by the bravest of folks.
And giraffes trying to hide in the daisy flowers.
While we were saturated with April showers.
There were earthworms as large as giant red fire trucks
Oozing and itching their way down the green grass
Rapidly squirming their way down the sidewalks of mucks.
Shinier than slimy wet spit on holiday glass.
It was the wettest spring I had ever seen.
The neighbors were so wet, they truly turned into mean.
It became even more wet in my backyard
When three hippopotamuses named Jack, Joe and Jard.
Escaped city zoo, and ran to my little known place.
They were mean to each other, slapping each face.
They tried to sit daintily on my pond’s lily pad.
Flooding my house, and making me really mad.

Dwellers of the capital city-
In a rare circumstance
Driving in their heavy engines
Migrated in flocks of birds
To the rural areas to beg-
Not sugar not salt-
Not money not shelter
In somber voices chanting slogans
Their instrumentals biasing the rural
Shouting party names throwing cash
Confusing hardworking farmers
Like dogs like vultures they run-
For killer remnants
Like small fish they swim in numbers
For the stuff on the hook-
In order to vote YES in numbers
Even though hearts feel NO
After chewing and swallowing-
From the baits
Crocodile hippopotamuses and the sharks-
Own back the sea

Dead Poet
Are you a poet?
Are you a good poet?
No you can not be
You must be dead
In poetry DEAD is good
We can read and NOT listen to the dead ones
Silence is golden
One day I am sure
I will be a good poet
With all my cheering fans
Dear Lord
Dear Lord, please don’t take me now
Let me here awhile longer
Dear Poet, I will let you there on earth until you
Compose the best poem ever written
Oh Dear Lord, bless you, bless you
Are you all hippopotamuses?
Some one was asking , not me

Zoos were once only despicable cages
Where animals were teased and taunted to rages
For the amusement of the ignoramuses
Who were not as smart as the hippopotamuses.
But the modern zoos are a different story
Where the residents live in freedom and glory.
Only the naysayers most pessimistic
Could find fault with the naturalistic
Conditions in which pampered animals abide,
Well fed and cared for. No need is denied.
Each species is given an ideal space
To live there in luxury and no enemy face.
Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, an hours drive away
Is a great place to go on a bright summer's day.
It's a beautiful park and magnificent zoo,
And the best place to go for a bag of zoo do.
