Modern Zoos

Zoos were once only despicable cages
Where animals were teased and taunted to rages
For the amusement of the ignoramuses
Who were not as smart as the hippopotamuses.
But the modern zoos are a different story
Where the residents live in freedom and glory.
Only the naysayers most pessimistic
Could find fault with the naturalistic
Conditions in which pampered animals abide,
Well fed and cared for. No need is denied.
Each species is given an ideal space
To live there in luxury and no enemy face.

Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, an hours drive away
Is a great place to go on a bright summer's day.
It's a beautiful park and magnificent zoo,
And the best place to go for a bag of zoo do.

" A bag of zoo do." That is witty like an old Disney lyric from the old school or Dr. Seuss. I like this. It is simple, direct, childlike and true. Respell despicable in first line. Hey, I constantly have surges where I yank three or four back for goofs and fine tuning. Thanks as always! You're the first to know. I'm posting a thank you to ALL of you this weekend as I have been so tied up with wills, on line school work and music composition that I lag behind badly. Love, Gerard.

Still laughing at your last line, Joyce, but you made a good point. Zoos today try to provide a more natural habitat for the animals. There are even breeding programs at some of these zoos and some animals mate successfully in these conditions. Very good entry for Barbara's zoo contest and I wish you success. Love, Carolyn
