Hearken Poems | Examples

O hearken to hints from your heart

To please Lady Muse, all my heart to bare,
I tried invoking her with chiselled verse,
That, the pure pleasure of my pen’s all hers,
Yet, left I was at blank paper to stare.
I sought some odd words archaic and rare,
And tried to paint the bleakest face of woes,
Which, often a desperate poet toes,
Fervent did I appeal that she be fair.
The words when came, came halting as if shy
And listless, I failed her bulwark to breach,
Nothing whatso worked and I knew not why,
I failed, the fount of words resource to reach,
I still coaxed my pen a new line to mint,
A voice whispered: hearken to your heart's hint.

Sonnet | 03.11.2008 | poem
Poet’s note: There are times when no matter what you do, words desert your pen as this sonnet says. Notice, the Volta is hinted at the beginning of the sestet, but its high tide occurs only at the poem-ending couplet.

Hearken

Hearken to my song, my tale
My story swift, and true;
I will utter only once.
‘Neath skies of azure blue

I seek the science of the mind;
The study of the same.
In aspects of unspoken grace,
My future I will claim.

My morals are of adamant,
My will of steel and iron,
And still, I speak no faithless word,
Lest restless are my sires.

From fingers quick I sing a song;
They dance across the frets.
And paint away my sorrows gray,
‘Neath moon and star sets.

Feet hastening over the grass
I seek to self improve
Pushing myself past my limit
This is the pain I choose

Try and you will fail to find
A truer soul than I
In word and deed, I follow creed
‘Neath azure autumn skies

Harpers of My Heartstrings

The strings of my heart are pulled taut like a bow
A tension within sourced deep down below
Too many odd dreams, inside me it seems,
Their wretched whispers, a bleak audio

They reach out and grasp my heartstrings impure
Why do they all hold so much allure?
All of them mine, but there’s not enough time
To give to all of my thoughts so obscure.

My head starts to pound, my mind now goes numb,
A song of discord, my dreams start to strum
Upon my heartstrings, and sprouting black wings
Flitter the flutterbies; Wingbeat to the drum

Out the window, a fell wind on the chimes,
My dreams are ill-lit like a forest of pines,
Yet never unknown, for they are my own,
Seasoned and flavored with hemlock and thyme

The wind is now roaring in the twilight
I suffer the scourge each sleepless night
All the long while, my throat fills with bile
For flutterbies flit, the devious blights

My dreams won’t let go of heartstrings so grim
Plucking and playing, live life to their whim
I haven’t the strength to battle at length
Thus I hearken to their dissonant hymn.

Premium MemberHearken To Thy Heart

Is it not true when we’re apart,
This ache I feel in my beating heart?

Skip it does when you’re in view,
It shall never turn away from you.

Alas, my love, I am forever yours,
No harm will come, there is no cause.

As the nights roll on, a voice within,
Speaks to my heart which begins to sing.

Never before have I felt this way,
I’ll spend my life telling you each day.

Our euphoric feet skipping down love’s lane,
‘Til the day we both walk with a cane.

Then in each other’s arms we’ll be,
For you are the one true love for me.

Hearken

Sound
of an
inner voice
though still - echoes
deep, popping up from inner vault of soul;
A sense of scruples inhibiting our
thoughts and actions
oftentimes
until
grave

Hearken To the Herald

Tree by tree, O’ of this we see,
The forests disappearing,
For the greater need is but greed
And the process domineering!
Once standing tall, the forests fall,
But now the bell is ringing,
O’ hearken to the herald of today,
For a portent it is bringing!

Coming nigh, O’ the darkened sky,
But thus no one is fearing,
Yet all shall choke upon the smoke
That ominously is nearing!
Upon the infinite seas all shall breathe,
As the bell goes onward tolling,
O’ hearken to the herald of today,
For thunder now is rolling!

While you sleep the end doth creep,
This comes hauntingly assuring,
For only the very wise have realized
That tomorrow is not alluring!
The rivers flow, the wind doth blow,
But the bell is loudly ringing,
O’ hearken to the herald of today,
For a portent it is bringing.

Hearken When the Body Talks

Hearken When the Body Talks

Any minor hint of bodily pain
Never ignore and never disdain
This could be some telltale sign
Of what may deadly malign.

It may start as a minor pinch
That swells to fatally lynch....
It may sprout as a tiny wart
That will spread to every part....

Good servant is our prostate-
Aggrieved, it turns an apostate.
Cervix to be frequently checked
Averts it being fully wrecked!

Never remain cold or be mum
While nursing a swollen gum
Nor suspect: “it’s the breeze.”
When you continually sneeze...

You did not swallow dry bones
Nor ingest some raw prawns....
When suffering a runny tummy
Quickly alert sweet mummy!

Nay, when eyes are bloodshot
You are not upset-you are not.
But, be wary of a lurking bug
That in future you may not shrug!

Premium MemberHe Will Hearken

God will do anything possible to grant us our request
He hears us
We have to trust that he knows and hearkens to our longing
It may not be today
Or even tomorrow
But it will come
In His time
But He will give them
He hears even a fleeting thought
Unspoken yearning
Hope, aspiration
He cares for them all
He will craft them in His mazed amazement
That He will do for His humankind
He is God
Alone, unequaled
Incomparable, matchless, unparalleled
Unrivaled, unsurpassable, inimitable
He is all
He knows all
And He will take care of business
Ours
So never fear
Doubt, lose faith
Hope in Him

Hearken Now

Turn to the skies
Where the rainbow lies;
There the shepherd’ voice sounds
To save thee from thy bounds,
Hearken now
Thy heads bow.
Before he calls again
You might have been soaked in stains,
Though he will wipe away thy million tears
You might have wasted thy precious years.
