Premium MemberAN ODE TO MY HAIRS

Me in love with my cluster of hairs
since I was running in my teens :
     Curly, deep black, thick bushy,
     also lengthy reaching my waist,
     drawing attraction and admiration.
Felt proud paying reverence to hair.
On ageing owing to hair loss,
bound to cut till neck in steps.
Even in old age, fluffy woolly natural style
provides grace and elegance on my face.

Premium MemberBraids

It's not that i desire to have long hair
It's just my natural hair is a nightmare
Braids are easy you just unwrap and go
Wearing different styles or let them hang low
Some explore with different colors but i love black
Corn rows, twists, individuals we can all do that
It brings out our creativity and sets us apart
It's not just a style we wear it's a work of art
I admit it takes a while and you have to be willing to sit
How much hair to use takes serious measurement
Whether we do them ourselves or someone else gets paid
It doesn't make a difference we love wearing braids.

Premium MemberFreaky People

“The employee shortage is so bad that long haired freaky people can now apply!” ~ seen on a mobile sign
Being of sorta sound mind and long hair, I dare to compare myself with the supporters, defenders of the length though “at my age, I S H O U L D” cut it in a current style to look younger, I’m told. Stand up. Stand proud. Stand firm. My hair length does not define my age, my hubris, my intelligence, my popularity, my worth, or my freakiness. Whatever… Maybe now I will be able to get a job. LOL

As a kid my hair was a very easy fix, just pull it back with a rubber band into a ponytail.
As a teen a ponytail was not going to work, off to the hair shop with picture in hand. I sat in the chair and said, I want to look like this picture. I sat dreaming about my great new hair style, as I looked in their mirror I was horrified. I did not look like the picture I showed them, what had happened to my head of hair.
I will fix the professionals, next hair cut was on me. That is when I started to cut my hair, I still laugh when I get asked - can they have my hairdresser's information.
I have found some great new friends, hats in all sizes - styles and colors.

My hair is a whimsical canvas my crown
It’s so versatile pinned up or flowing down
An expression of my natural creativity
Hair is a blessing of my femininity

Sometimes I let the pillow style it
Go with the flow wearing my wild wit
In this way my hair is a cocoa cloud
All soft and fluffy unruly truly proud

Sometimes the rain puffs it up
I don’t complain I just embrace love
If I wear a natural Afro style
Or twists with bliss will make me smile

I can never go wrong with braids
Long or short the patterns make waves
Take it down and enjoy it anew
Crinkled and wrinkled my hair is the truth

Even if I have had bad hair days
Can cut it short or even shave
Hair is an expression when I’m feeling chatty
Fine like vine thick like brick stringy or nappy

Premium MemberThe Ugly Truth

I’ll let the pillows style my hair
And my morning breath won’t be fair
If you don’t want me then I don’t care
I’m in a haunting mood of truth beware

I can be who I am within my head
The thoughts I have like spam bleeding red
Of me trying so hard to be perfect
When no one is it’s not even worth it

I’m a girly girl at my best heart
Painting my nails dressing myself so sharp
Wearing my heart on my sleeve like art
Playing the tease using light and dark

But there are days I must be fire
Slaying a dragon and lifting higher
Than worldly things and carnal desire
To be the heroine that I inspire

This Venus mars thing of women and men
Seem like a game I’m not even in
Seems such a shame while he smiles
My brain’s wondering will he stick around

No matter what you do
Your beauty will stay true
A radiance that stands out from the rest

With claret trellis on
So fair to gaze upon
Elegance and class in style of dress

And if your hair is short
I'm still here to report
Your splendor goes beyond what words can say

You're beyond the galaxy
In terms of what I see
You might not feel the same but that's okay

Premium MemberWhat You Get For Dyeing Your Own Hair

Back in 1984 when it was not the style,
I accidentally dyed my hair navy blue.
Walked into the beauty school.
They screamed with laughter.

This is what you get for dying your own hair.
Can you get rid of it? I asked them.
They asked why I had let it stay on so long.
When I could see in the mirror what it was doing.

I did not bother to watch it developing.
I am a writer, not a freaking hairdresser.
And certainly not a professor of hair dye.
They had to shave my head.

Also not common for women in 1984.
Maybe I was forty years ahead of my time.
I got ostracized and ridiculed for that too.
By everyone but my husband who was silent.

He is no fool.
He knew who had access to his toothbrush.

Premium MemberHair Today Shorn Tomorrow Cl

Sue loved to style her auburn hair, and adorn it with a cute bow.   Then cancer struck, life’s so unfair - treatment meant her long locks would go. She hoped in time new hair would grow, as baldness may cause folk to stare. Sue now wears a pretty bandeau, her cancer story I now share. Now what’s the matter with my hair? It’s thinning balding -–such despair As buddies jest that I’m ‘top gone’ With strands flaking one by one. The barber whips piles of spray net Yet coif flops, this manhood upset While I grab the latest toupee And style a bob which looks like hay! Meanwhile, gals I need to attract Believes new shave is a cool act... With pierced ears studded, I am grand Jigging on like a hip-hop band! Dear me, today, life's all brand new Nobody peeps at my head's view. For Barry Stebbings’ Contest Oh Dear, What Can The Matter Be 2/13/2018
