Girl from snowy gulch was wearing hot pink.
I was used to green and red, I could not quite think.
Why did you reach for that color? I asked my other.
My other had no words, as silent as my weird brother.
Hot pink looks great on me! The cartoon girl said.
Look how pretty I am! She was rounded, well-fed.
I look fantastic in this snowsuit, you know that I do!
I keep adding paint until I knew that we were both through.
Whiskey Gulch
just to the left
Dry Bones Valley
straight ahead
Many a man's thought
to pause at that Gulch
Nary a one's
returned alive
Dry Bones Valley
straight ahead
still untrodden
by those dead
For many men pause
at Whiskey Gulch
Nary a one's
returned alive
Dead man laying in a gulch,
head dangling in a stream
eyes wide open as if a traversing dream,
supplicated look of a muted scream
in concordance with a deep jagged ravine,
vultures looking to eviscerate his soul
he never managed to transcend his goals,
parched by a radiant searing heat
all around is nothing except scarcity,
and as the vultures cry overhead
eagerly seeking to feast on carrion flesh.
The old worn dusty trousers tattered and torn,
a ripped up shirt sweat stained ruffles in the breeze
old leather pig skin boots hanging off the feet
this supine body now just resembles meat
to the creatures that inhabit here
unknown carcass to which causes no tears
died on his own everybody's worse fear.
In Praise of Elvira Gulch
By Elton Camp
Just because she was willing to fight
Nobody wants to speak of Elvira right
She was just trying to guard her cat
Now what can be wrong about that
A dog with such a bad disposition
To punish him became her mission
To silly sentiment she didn’t give in
And wouldn’t let some schoolgirl win
Elvira went to the sheriff, had a fit
And she came away holding a writ
Her property Dorothy didn’t avoid
She intended to have Toto destroyed
So after the miscreant she did catch
All she needed was a basket latch
And give Elvira credit for being green
For riding on a bicycle she was seen
It’s mainly because she wasn’t cute
That, about Elvira, few give a hoot
(Note: This assumes knowledge of the movie, “The Wizard of Oz.”)
the cactus stood in surprise
with his arms to the sky
while the sun took his water not his life
sun told the prairie dogs
this is a hold up!
get in yo holes!
nosy rodents get shot with heatstrokes
little ms vegetation
close yo eyes and you won't die
dry desert!, run them
permanent bodies of water out of town!
create a dust storm!
sheriff ain't around!
he and his posse clouds are stormin
on the other side of them mountains
cactus!, you tell sheriff rainfall
he is yella!, and to erratic!
we don't see , violent stormy weather , in these parts
ya'll remember
that tomorrow
is another dry gulch day
YEE-HAW!
