Back of the stockyards, over 100 years ago
Immigrants were easy prey, as many now know
Landlords would slap paint over rat-infested dwellings
then twirling their moustaches, they’d begin selling
Those dilapidated structures with four-color brochures
hawking them as 'visions of paradise,’ sure to allure
Prospective buyers, trembling ‘greenhorns’
all too soon shorn
Of their entire life savings, only to find ~
that ‘rent’ was just half of what for they had signed
(Precious hearts robbed blind)

Playing with Words is Just a Funny Phase
Philosophical Phil’s phonetic phrase
Magnetized magazines moving in a maze
Generating goodwill in a gazelle’s goofy gaze
Cramping crafty crayfish in a crazy craze.
Depriving deranged deputy Dibby Daze
Playing with words is just a funny phase!
Gliding glimmer glasses glowing glaze.
Blackbird blabbermouth blessing blaze.
Haphazard Happiness hardening haze,
Greeting grotesque greenhorns as they graze.
Poetizing with silliness is just my own sweet craze.

Cattlemen in the evening sky
Who have gone to their by and by
Have been seen now and again
By those considered special friends.
Ridin' the stars and ropin' the moon
Making it easy as they zoom
Only one in a million times they miss
They're lassoing is very crisp.
Each helps the stars that's in the sky
So they may always stay up high
When they're not careful we lose a star
That once was seen from quite afar.
Now with the greenhorns they have fun
When they show each how it is done
Ridin' the stars and ropin' the moon
Making it easy as they zoom.
