War does not determine who is right - only who is left. - Bertrand Russell

It’s a darkness so sad and grim,
Dreams destroyed by the bleakest sins,
It’s more than loss of life and limb
World War isn’t just about who wins

Homes are ruined and lives are wrecked
It’s a darkness so sad and grim,
Death in each shadow or suspect
Was this war started on a whim?

Here at home, we all sing a hymn
For those soldiers who will not live
It’s a darkness so sad and grim,
Warriors, hearts and souls they give

Though we sought peace, our hope was lost
Beneath seas of pain, our souls swim
Glumly fighting despite the cost
It’s a darkness so sad and grim,

Tight Rations

The Cat sat glumly on the mat
Eyeballing his dinner dish
It was high time someone filled it
To the brim with his favourite fish

Things had been a bit slack
Lately his meals had been late
Treats were hidden from him
No titbits were left on a plate

It was time his owners stepped up
The situation was becoming alarming
If he kept on going like this
He was in mortal danger of starving

That bloody vet rang last week
He overheard words including 'fat'
That sounded highly suspicious
No good could come of that

So here he was on tight rations
It just wasn't good enough
It was time to teach them a lesson
It was time to cut up rough

He planned it meticulously
His revenge was oh-so-sweet
He waited until they weren't looking
And threw up on the new lounge suite

Premium MemberA Winter's Day On the Trail

wind-whipped waves, white-capping near shore
trail's thin layer of ice, cracking underfoot
a cold sock awaiting impatient shoes

on the look-out, hoping, but not really expecting
to spot her on the trail she once danced along
her lithe motions a Nutcracker Suite to me

no, no, no -- not him -- my old roommate approaching
inviting me to join him on his 'Jog with Nature' kick
what could I do... I fell glumly in line...

The Known-Unknown

I was a Moon in a dark abyss
Wandering alone in tormented solace
As aimlessly as a fish in a bowl
Glumly glad within my alien abode

In a spur ___ you appeared from Nowhere
A Blackhole pulling me towards its angelic snare
Rearranging the space time fabric ___
To a whole new realm ___ mystifying yet aesthetic

And I couldn't resist, for that Benignity
set my heart ablaze___ filled its Valence shell
Entwined with you I will step in eternity soon
Hoping, your floral rugs bear stars and moons..!!

What I Told Bill

What I told Bill
My voice unchanging and shrill
Was about life in water necessitating gills
And the ones on fire, grills
The left spaces for man to fill…
And it should be mainly about his will
But not less intensely his zeal

The same I had disclosed to Jill
But it didn’t him at all thrill:
On some angered bottle spending a dollar bill
And glumly ascending a closely bill
From his valley-sited vacant mill
Always life depicting as The Still.

Loneliness

Lonely gazes glumly at the world that bustles by,
from the tinted windows of her heart,
where no one sees her cry.

"Water, water, everywhere, and not a drop to drink..."
They're close in their proximity,
but not in how they think.

As God withholds His comfort, despite her many prayers,
she searches humankind in vain
to find a soul that cares.

She smiles for their comfort, and tells them she's alright,
concealing, with a stoic face,
her torment day and night.

She'd rather suffer loneliness than suffer as a fool:
The people she has dared to love
have proven false and cruel...

They sought from her compassion and the honesty they lacked,
and used the shards of broken trust
to stab her in the back.

(How quickly hope is kindled, and how painfully it dies!
--- with accusations, exploitation,
fickleness and lies.)

She smothers in her hiding place, but so it has to be,
for there is no kindred spirit
with whom she could be free.

A lonely ultimatum in a world where no one cares:
Be genuine in one's own world,
or make pretend in theirs.

Confused Bloggetts of the 9th Magnitude

As per thinketh me, in vespers got...
It's all about what's hot, what's not...
My mind went 'out', and tried to think.
But, I came back, and had a drink.
I glumly reemerged, later that night.
As I was took back, an awful fright.

Drinking is bad, as my mind thought...
As I poured another, and another I bought.

Then I remembered, what I almost forgot.
Help me now, as I reminisce on the spot.

It escapes me now, what I almost forgot.
But you can help me, eh, more than alot.

As per thinketh me, in the vespers, I got.
It's all about, what's hot, and what's not.

Carpe Diem

Glued to my desk I glumly sighed
For lack of inspiration.
Growing ‘ennui’ I could not hide,
Outside – precipitation!

Out of my window as I gazed
A squirrel stood and shivered.
Under a lilac brolly raised
This message he delivered:

‘Gather ye acorns while ye may
For winter is advancing
Harvest the fruits of life today
Good luck do not be chancing!’

Vision now gone, I burst the chain
Of routine, mundane hours,
And felt the joy of life again
Refreshed by gentle showers.

Premium MemberSo Glum

Woebegone woe beset, be gone
A Wobbegong dumbed down in dumps
Forlorn in doldrums deep and glum
For the taste of glum is dour and sour
Mirthless and mournful, cheerless and doleful
Apparel crestfallen, disheveled, long-face, appalled
Butt out, begone, woebegone Wobbegong, long in tooth
Trim your beard, its shaggy and scummy, and glumly
See more sea, and be seen in scene on screen.

An Aurora Alouette - Rain Dogs

AN AURORA ALOUETTE - RAIN DOGS

the morning dewdrops
the sap on the trees
the wind blowing pleasingly
a stroll I will take
a joyous promenade
with my umbrella and cane.

rain oh rain will show
dawn is to enjoy.
gloomy not, away I go
pouring cats and dogs.
glumly aurora
dulcetly I sing “Rain Dogs.”

Premium MemberAs Happy As Sharks In Hell

A long journey, hot and sweaty
With thorns along the jetty
Pricking my body dangerously
I sat and pondered glumly
Hell is surely filled with demons
Ready to give me lots of sermons
And reducing my dose of that love song
So that I drown, drowsy, all day long!

Miracle! Heaven and Hell so alike
No demons, hurling out, apelike!
Just an empty island, surrounded by sharks
They rode calmly as if in parks
Friendly and warm, they even wave
For sweets even if I do crave
I satisfied myself with that sweet wine
Intoxicated by those sharks in my confine!

Winters Call

Winters Call

The leaves of autumn act out in defiance
Clinging to their branches, desperate to remain
Their brilliant red and gold has now grown rusty
Their voices rustling glumly in the trees

Chilling winds encroach upon the landscape
A prelude to a season yet to come
Preparing a new canvas on which nature
Will create a new and brilliant pastel theme

Pale blues and pinks and whites soon overtake us
Icy fingers pinch color to our cheeks
Sounds of the season seem to speak more softly
Muted by the presence of the snow

Life’s tempo moves now with a quickened cadence
A new urgency is added to our tread
We surrender to the pristine hills and meadows
And embrace a world alive with Winters breath

Knock, Knock

Someone's at my kitchen door
I hear them gently knock
But it really is quite early
I look glumly at the clock
Who could be there waiting
Who would be about
I haven't had my coffee yet
It makes me want to shout

They must still be standing there
Again I hear them knock
I can't open the door like this
It would give them quite a shock
I haven't had my shower yet
And my hair is everywhere
I've just hurried out of bed
I'm looking kind of bare

I wish that they'd be gone from here
Once more I hear a knock
Why can't they just walk away
Or drive around the block
Oh, but now I'm wide awake
And it's clear they're here to stay
So I guess I'll quickly dress myself
...Welcome to my day
