They say age is just a number,
but its much more than that.
Now everything I eat or drink
just somehow turns to fat.
I used to kick a soccer ball
all over sunny fields of green
but now I throw my knee out
just pulling on my jeans .
My auburn hair that hung in waves,
long and full of sheen,
is now short and white, stands on end,
and makes me look quite mean .
Old age isn't for the faint of heart.
You need to be tough as a boot
and forget about those days gone by
when you were young and cute.
You need to develop a thick skin.
(Though in truth its thinner than ever)
Words no longer phase you
and your retorts have become quite clever.
Yes, growing old is really the pits.
Like living under a curse.
But on the flipside of getting older,
the alternative is worse.

There's more rust in my joints than ever.
My bones sound like an old screen door,
and my knees predict the weather
better than any app.
Give me elastic waistbands, soft slippers,
and the creak of a recliner
that groans every time I sit.
Bring on the grandkids with sticky fingers
leaving fingerprints on the walls,
and loud toys that play the same song
again and again.
Pile on the mismatched furniture,
the frayed edges, the cracked plates,
and the joy of holding on to anything
that brings back a memory.
Let my friends swap stories about their ailments,
sit on the porch with their cardigans,
and say, "Remember when?"
Let mornings be slow, with aching backs,
glasses misplaced, and coffee that’s gone cold.
Remind me of the fortune of old photos,
the wealth of crumpled coupons,
and the art of navigating
the labyrinth of nostalgia.
Forget the resolutions,
just give me the constant hum of a well-lived life.
I’ll take the bottom of the cookie jar,
the forgotten, the outgrown,
the simple things that bring comfort,
one gentle turn
on the slow-spinning wheel of age.

A reflection is a funny thing.
No matter how you look at it, it will always look back at you the same.
No matter how much you want it to change it never will.
You will always be you unless you change you.
But what fun would that be?
There have been times when I didn’t want to be me.
A time when I hated the reflection I would see.
As I got older it still wasn’t easy.
But I have come to love myself.
My reflection is now my favorite thing I see.
I hope one day you’ll love you, and everything you have come to be.
Take a deep breath and look in the mirror.
There is your destiny!

Getting Older
As I'm getting older,
I'm not getting any bolder,
and women's attitude towards me is getting colder.
As I become a senior,
my demeanor becoming meaner,
my funds becoming leaner.
With all this trouble,
I'm living in a plastic bubble,
and you'll find my ethics in the rubble.

Time and tide they do not wait,
We all have heard it said,
And there are some who seem to view,
The ebb and flow with dread.
They do their best to stave it off,
And live in deep denial,
Trying not to show their age,
And viewing it as trial.
A tribulation of some sort,
A thing to be avoided,
Forgetting in their quest for youth,
That age can be exploited;
For with age comes experience,
That younger folks don't have.
Things that you have done before,
Is to them enclave.
A thing to them as yet untried,
Is foreign territory.
They'll listen to your wisdom,
And practiced oratory;
For things that to the younger set,
Appear a mystery,
For older folks is just old hat,
And it's just history;
So if we learn to use our age,
Accept it as a friend,
We'll age as does fine wine and so,
Won't face a bitter end.
We have to learn to face some facts,
That some things must betide.
You can run from age my friend,
But you can never hide.

Getting older
may be a rewarding experience
for
those who the Lord, desperately,
seek to find
since
with old age the haze of carnal desires
dissipates
thus
letting the spiritual light illumine
the mind!

Every bone and muscle
In my body seems to hurt.
Is this my future – staying home,
Lethargic and inert?
I do my stretches but I’ve never
Been the limber sort,
Yet I still walk 3 miles each day,
I’m happy to report.
Is age the culprit or perhaps
A reason so much worse?
If it’s the former, we can’t make
The years go in reverse.
Yet other possibilities
Loom darkly in my mind,
Contributing some wrinkles
To a face already lined.
I must admit that getting old’s
Annoying as can be
And what is most surprising is
It’s happening to me!

Oh my fellow mortals,
Shouldn't we stop complaining for getting older
When
We very well know, that it is the only way for us
Alive to stay?

'Living with an angel
That's so true
She makes my life
Worth going through!
I'm getting older
But that's not sad
I'm eating ice cream
On a heating pad!

You can always beat someone getting old,
if you already had been older then them
when you both together first started;
If you were to die first they you can, Get older than you had been eventually.
Jim Horn
Life does become a perpetual motion,
Where there is much love and devotion,
Read yours;
Things cures;
Writing poems knew we had a notion.

Aging is not easy, some days one feels like a sloth; lethargic.
Sometimes one feels as though eating is, a dreaded and exhausting chore.
But, one day you’ll realize, that bump on the log, is yourself!

In December of this year I turn eighty two
And I feel every darn year through and through
Seems like yesterday I was only twenty one
Full of sass knowing life had just begun
At forty two I was still going strong
A few grey hairs but getting along
At sixty or so my pace had slowed a bit
A few aches and pains but still feeling pretty fit
Nearing seventy is where I think I first hit the wall
Noticing my gate had slowed to a noticeable crawl
The mid-seventies found me my physician’s best friend
With ailments and office visits and drugs he would recommend
Now as I prepare for my next birthday complete with aches and pains
I look back at the beginning realizing only a shadow remains
But I’m not angry or depressed as life doesn't owe me a thing
Now I spend my time wondering what the next adventure will bring

You Know You’re Getting Older When…©
The scroll bar for an online application
takes forever to get to your year of birth
The creaks you hear are your bones
not the floor boards
Younger people take the time to hold the door
open even without asking
Taking an escalator or elevator instead of stairs
is the only option
Switching the phone from ear to ear
doesn’t make hearing any easier
Can openers and jars become the enemy
You swear your arms are getting shorter
making tying your shoe laces a challenge
“Say again” are the most used words
in your vocabulary
You save money on haircuts and shampoo
as there is less to work with
Grey becomes your new favorite color
Slow now feels fast
Cat naps are mandatory
The right lane on a highway becomes your domain
You need eye glasses to find your eye glasses
The remote is an extension of your hand
“Skip to the lou my darling” are
more than words to a song
And that’s just the short list
Don’t laugh, someday you’ll be there
