A Little Poem On 'Getting Older' - Celebrating Creativity In 'Old Age'

The sea is rough and I never learned to swim
So I won't push the boat out
I won't push the boat out
I shall stay on shore and have a feast
Of delicious happy thoughts and plans
For treats and pleasures coloured pink
With my extraordinary friends and swap stories
About how we survived so far and feel proud.
Then maybe we shall play some cards or paint a picture
Perhaps sing a song filled with nostalgia and cry while
We celebrate each other with toasts made of sparkles
And effervesse with happy feelings and love for each other!

Getting Older

Young man sitting next to me on the bench I asked him,
Young man if I am sad what will you do? I will ask you to share your sadness.
Young man if I am cold what will you do? I will cover you with my coat.
Young man if I am angry what will you do? I will listen and help you forgive.
Young man if I am standing what will you do? I will give you my place.
Young man if I am crying what will you do? I will wipe your tears & enlace you.
Young man if I am hungry what will you do? I will give you my sandwich.
Young man if I am sleepy what will you do? I will cradle you.
Young man if I need a friend what will you do? I will befriend you forever.
Young man if I am lonely what will you do? I will take you in and look after you.
Young man if I am lost what will you do? I will hold you to find your way back.
Young man if I want to kill myself what will you do? I will forbid you to do that.
Young man if I want my children what will you do? I will locate them for you.
Young man can you get me off this bench walk me to the bank, yes of course.
Arrived at the bank holding her hand she went to the teller told him to get her out 50.0000$. Thank you for sitting on the bench with me. Remember this day
Its a Thanksgiving gift.

'Living with an angel
That's so true
She makes my life
Worth going through!

I'm getting older
But that's not sad
I'm eating ice cream
On a heating pad!

Getting Older

getting older
is scary I find too late
in this life
though can still scatter
dandelions to the winds

He sits in the nursing home confined to a wheechair for the rest of his life, still able to think, a prisoner in his own body.

The Fear of Getting Older

there are places and people in America that are scared to death
of looking old and growing older
where a new wrinkle or two when found is a terrible scary thing
a birthday is not celebrated but filled with dread that you’re getting older
a man fears the hairs falling from his head lying on the pillow of his bed
changing the color of gray away
a look in the mirror becomes a tragedy if you appear older then twenty three
when your real age is forty three oh woe is me
the place is Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Newport Beach, California
where the people appear to look like plastic unreal manikins
with the skin pulled tight across their face
thinking they are the beautiful people of the human race
hollow eyes with a pound of make-up looking back at you
where their bodies are nipped and tucked
fat is vacuumed out and jelly filled plastic bags become breasts and butts
is this the future look of humanity I hope not
grow old with grace and don’t worry so much about your face

When
I listen to you, my love,
Complaining that older each day you get
And
That your beauty is rapidly fading away,
I look at you with awe

For

It is only then that I realize, how much
More rewarding,
Beauty has become to you
With
The passing of time!

Getting Older

Getting older is no fun at all
getting reminded to take your geritol
kids never visit only when they need money
they don't remember that you wiped their nose when it was runny
See, your kids are making plans to put you in a nursing home and throw away the key
only to forget about you and take all of your money
spending it on their selfish materialistic cars and houses
it finally dawned on me, i raised a bunch of lazy louses.

Getting Older

I know that I'm getting older
But I swallow a bitter pill
Since there are constant reminders
Hinting that I'm over the hill

I received a letter one day
Life insurance, it was about
It bothered me some when it said
Hurry up, time is running out!

Whenever we go to the buffet
They asked will there be a discount?
Admit I'm over fifty five?
Not for a fifty cent amount!

But by far the worst reminder
I'm not the pup I use to be
Is when I look in the mirror
An old geezer looks back at me!

I used to make fun of my dad’s age…saying with loving youthful vigor
“How come you’re getting shorter but your ears and nose are so much bigger?”

Oh, Dad would try to make a witty comeback…but usually it would bomb.
(makes me wonder where I got my talent for humor…must have been from Mom!)

So I guess it’s only payback or Karma…now that I’m one of the older folks
that I must listen to my children and grandchildren as they crack their old man jokes.

Like when they remind me how I’m over the hill and how I’m beginning to shrink…
And when they mention how my nose and ears are bigger…
I wonder…do they know they’re not as funny as they think?

They laugh when I say, “It’s nine o’clock…time to go to bed.”
and God forbid I ask, “Have you seen my glasses?”
when they’re perched upon my head.

They joke about my lack of hair and when their laughter clears
they remind me if I’m looking for hair…check inside my nose and ears.

In truth…I am quite content with getting older…I don’t think it is unfair.
I don’t mind a bit that I am bald because I never have to comb my hair.

And with my nose the size of a cucumber and two enormous ears
there are so many delicious aromas I smell…
so many wonderful sounds I hear.

Besides growing old is a part of life…we’re all growing older every day
and how wonderful it is to pause…and laugh at myself along the way.

I also smile as I sit back listening to these old jokes unfold…
knowing what a wonderful journey it’s been getting to be this old…

Finally, I have the satisfaction of knowing as joke after joke they tell bomb…
they didn’t get their talent for humor from me…(must have got it from their mom).

Getting Older

I cannot see what is
directly in front of me.
I can no longer conceal
the hairs on my
chinny chin, chin.
My breasts still look fine,
but I can no longer
pretend those size ten
jeans are mine.
My hair is silver,
with a lovely shine,
but, grey hairs on
my eyebrows?? Oh,
No, they're not mine.
Sweating profusely
for no reason at all.
All of a sudden feeling hot,
without so much
as a dirty thought.
The upside is...
I'm at home in my skin.
I embrace my talents,
My shortcomings too.
I consider my success as,
my beautiful girls,
my work, my friends,
and you.

Getting Older

The age aging.
The world changing.
The life leaving.
We are here,
suffocating.

Sure it's not the magic wonders anymore.
Sure it's not the same path we've to go.

People change,
People die.
The world and its fills cry.
I greet them goodbye.

Getting Older

We used to be like them
as we now simply shuffle along the floor
we would create cool moves
but now have learned the fox trot and more...

We used to walk down the street hand in hand
now we simply talk or energy is less
you understand
but the smiles are the same
as is the wink of the eye
and you are still in my heart
and at times, I still feel kind of shy...

Now we have grandchildren
who would have thought?
seems like yesterday we were children ourselves
but somehow by time we got caught-

so now we look to our golden years that are o so near
you and I together
go forward without any fear
challenging our bodies to keep up with the times
as we stretch and bend and keep rhythm in lifes rhymes.

Getting Older

Getting older...
Where my knees wear out quicker than my shoes
Where my hair grows inward through my ears and nose
Where I bend my knees to touch my toes
Yet the brain tells the body "anything still goes".

Getting older...
Where my bones sound like the crack of a whip
The hormones scream "I don't want to dip"
Too much cycling has worn the hips
You dribble they coffee after a hot sip.

But getting older
You know the truth from the lies
The experience of life means you're now wise
You no longer need the old soul ties
Because you've experienced the Life of Christ.
