The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel

The Boxer-verse 6

I’ve truly fought the good fight
And I’ve lost more than I’ve won
But no matter what the outcome
I know that I can live with pride
For I gave the best I could in every fight
Lie la lie, lie la lie la lie

Silent Sounds

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
From The Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel

We speak in sentences that
have no meaning
Empty words flow from the mouths of
fatuous politicians, but who listens.
Earbuds drown out the cacophony of crowded streets
as we hurry to the safety of our silent home.
We sit in silence hoping our years of love
will drown out the noise of the supper television.
Shrill voices, meaningless words spill from flapping lips
fall on deaf ears.
Real silence is refreshing when nothing is said
and human voices are stilled.

Premium Memberpainted ladies

painted ladies

over the years i have forgotten her eyes
that her smile was soft
and her hair like chiffon on a wednesday morning

we walked along stanyan street
celebrating the colors of a fall morning
listening to simon and garfunkel
and watching steam rise from beneath the street

the majesty of the painted ladies
on steiner street came alive as they stared us down
two lovers hand in hand
looking for a place to lay a blanket
in alamo square park

we must have looked bland
compared to their flamboyancy
queen anne archetecture—fancy and flashy
combinations of bay windows
from which lovers could be watched
jutting turrets and ornately decorated rooflines

even then, when i saw the brilliant pink
of a lady, i saw you, your lips, your smile
and of the blue, i saw your eyes, the sparkle
the laughing way they looked at me

yet i have forgotten the colors
and only the painted ladies
on steiner street remind me
of that morning
looking for a place to lay a blanket
in alamo square park

Premium MemberStill Here

I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
Nor is it strange
After changes upon changes
We are more or less the same
After changes we are more or less the same
In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him, 'till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains
Parts of:
The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel

Still Here

I will remain
Despite the strain

The punches thrown
The anger sown

The promises made
The truth does fade

I hear what I want to hear
Disregard what I fear

I bear scars
From life’s wars

Knocked about
But never out

I am still here
I shout

Homeward bound
I wish I was
Homeward bound
Home where my thought's escapin'
Home where my music's playin'
Home where my love lies waitin'
Silently for me
Homeward Bound by Simon and Garfunkel

Return

I feel you in my dreams,
your soft blonde hair
against my cheek.

I smell the aroma of
fresh lilac from the
hint of your perfume.

I hear your gentle voice
as you whisper your
love song to me.

I see you on our bed,
a blood red rose clutched
in your soft hands.

I awake to the sound
of coupling cars
in the train yard.

I feel the hard wooden bench,
cold comfort to my weary
aching body.

I taste the remains of
watered down vending machine
coffee and stale Danish.

I know my journey must
continue as I pick up
my battered old mandolin case.

I hope that some day
my journey will lead me
to home and you again.

Rest your eyes - dodo

Go and rest your weary eyes.
Go and rest your dreary head.
Lie la lie, lie, lie, lie, lie,
sleep my son, tonight.

Lie la lie, lie lie lie - from the Boxer - Simon & Garfunkel.

[Foreigner]
waiting for a girl like you -
the wild flower by the gate

[Phil Collins]
another day in paradise -
my love chalice filled and refilled

[The Beatles]
here comes the sun -
furtively she draws the curtain to my heart

[Creedence Clearwater Revival]
have you ever seen the rain?
I was blind to unspoken love

[Simon & Garfunkel]
the sound of silence -
we dance to the rhythm of our hearts

[Lady Antebellum]
need you now -
the rose petals keep falling…down

[A Rocket to the Moon]
baby blue eyes -
heaven reflected in the swell of the sea

[Mary Hopkin]
those were the days
…and then your hand slipped out of mine

[Sting]
fields of gold -
the setting sun ripples on water

[Ronan Keating]
when you say nothing at all -
searching for reassurance in your eyes

April come she will when streams are ripe and swelled with rain. May she will stay, resting in my arms again.

beneath leafless trees
an empty park bench awaits

Premium MemberCopter Over My Roof

Song, Copter Over My Roof, to be sung to the tune
of 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters', Simon And Garfunkel

I see eeriness Written on your face
Those fears have gotten you down
Cast them all away
They cannot stay
Yes, you've had enough
And too few understand

There's a copter over your rooftop
It will lift you up
There's a copter over your rooftop
It will lift you up

It seems all hope is gone
And you are left to fight alone
No light at the end of your tunnel
Love is there to embrace you
Love will hold you tight
When the sun hides itself
Or shadows are all you see

There's a copter over your rooftop
It will lift you up
There's a copter over your rooftop
it will lift you up

Come on golden boy
Take to the sky
Life has not passed you by
Dry the tears from your eyes
Grey clouds are lifting
Let love fly you away
Hope is alive and well

There's a copter over your rooftop
It will lift you up
There's a copter over your rooftop
It will lift you up

April She Came September She Is Gone

In the middle of April
she arrived...
brought the color
green field
as the simple
Baggage...
stayed all May
free, sighing
in my arms...
In June we left
to jump
bonfires and stoke
our embers
with passion and
burning ...
In July and August
love was intense,
with tenderness
and caring,
immense glow ...
we enjoy peace
in hearts suits
lovers ...
Suddenly,
suddenly
the spring
didn't bloom
inside us...
It was September,
I remember...
a love
So young,
so old
withered ...!

Premium MemberSimon and Garfunkel Songs

Their voices the same as I remember
Simon and Garfunkel and a simple guitar
Bringing the seventies immediately back to my mind
My hip hugger bell bottoms and embroidered blouses smile again

Their folk song brought back lava lamps and fringed jackets
I am in a van painted with fat flowers and yellow happy faces.
We are heading to Berkley to play our guitars and meet friends
People we never met before, but know are not strangers

Their voices casual and pretty, soft…..
Simon and Garfunkel, bringing back the seventies.
When we all wanted to go to California or New York.
To live our dreams, make our fortunes, and become our real selves.

I listen to the lyrics, remembering them a few seconds ahead.
Transported to a different world, a different time,
Seeing the peace signs and the beaded doorways.
Wanting to press the metal and get out of the Midwest.

I let their song take me back…..

Premium MemberArt G's Golden Years

Remember that singer, Art Garfunkel
He developed a painful carbuncle
   Got down on his knees
   Said, 'Don't lance it, please'
The mere thought of blood makes me cry 'Uncle'

Of course, old Art's lost most of his hair
Back in the day, he sure had lots up there
   But once he got old
   He had this bad cold
Misdiagnosed ~ His doc shaved his head bare
