Imperial vs metrics

I buy my shoes by the foot,
Tend my front lawn by the yard,
Groom the dog by the furlong,
That’s why metrics are so hard.

tugwell diversity

She sits furlong
the race has been won
saddled on the mountain top
why equate the drilled
laying like searchlight beams

She waits for the birman
with wings on her mind
straight laced
she race you for fun
Venus on the edge
shared shies
she unfathom you

Premium MemberThe Last Show

In the footsteps pacing the penultimate mile of mist,
at the edge of fading furlong of future walkway obscure,
in the twilight hour the sunset swansong resonates
for the forlorn extant being silhouetted still
against the scarlet skyline of immanent transience,
witnessing the final flicker of the dying day.

The twirling threads of turmoil entwined
with the cleaved clouds blazing in lightning gale,
crumbling the credulous horizon halcyon once.
The chameleon transformation gets transcribed
on the convoluted canvas burning in the last corner,
from the surreal chromatic flare the ashes fly away.

The shards of the splintered sky in the swirling storm,
roll on the weary waves of the curled conviction cloud.
The remnant rays of sanguinity survive still
in the flamboyant flashes of the sinking sun,
fabricate the latent lattice of the dormant dreams
in the consumed life’s kaleidoscopic last show.

Ruthless

I'm planting my hopes in silent passion
A harsh winter salad I fear
with greenfly and spider
I'm waiting for perpetual rain
and to fathom the reasons why?
you left me furlong in the mud
blonde and ruthless ,
telling me something I didn't know

Etched

"I carry your heart with me (I carry it In my heart) I am never without you"
                               Quote - by E. E. Cummings

She stood against the tide and waded through,
Though taken by some, she emerged stronger,
She tussled until all her dreams came true,
She walked through midnight a furlong longer.

Walking through the woods was her huge delight,
She communed with the facets of nature,
Until beyond seen borders she took flight,
Taken beyond the earth's nomenclature.

Her departure hangs heavy in my heart,
Her exit still brings tearful memories,
She resides still though we have come apart,
Thoughts of her are knitted like tapestries.

They stand before me as dawn and twilight,
Gloom that’s recalcitrant to the sun's light.

Heart of Kapilavasthu

Mimetic mimicry mimicked the mime.
More than furlong, the entire belonging day long.
Prophet, the proper property, pope prophecy.
Hardhearted harshness tied a fair harness.
Shepherd herding sheep, harder in a herder way.

I Am Struck By the Beauty

Poetry of life
Is as elegant as forest
In both The treasure, hidden within
Like forest, her thirst is such opportune sign
In each furlong,
the mystery Intimately grip
Where is the beauty?
In such green lush or in such silken thigh
I am struck by the beauty
Nature or otherwise…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME
              Jeannie Flinn Furlong
Hello friends! You’re invited! Please come to celebrate my day!
Allow me to share party time with all those who like to play.
Pretty party decorations here across my summer lawn,
Packed for fun! Soon this celebration will be forever gone.
Ya’ll have been fine friends, do come celebrate me. It’s my pleasure!

Bring no gifts. Just have fun! Your friendship is my one true treasure.
I’m rejoicing this passing year! What is your how, when or where?
Remember me a heartfelt soul! Please make it fun as we share.
This is my day, I do not fret! There’s more! to life straight ahead!
Happily I quote, “This day’s a day to cherish! Not to dread!”
Disappearing days in time, let’s remember us as we speak.
Another year passing! How can we find several more weeks?
Year in and year out, it’s never, yet never’s the same, we think.

To really best me in this aging game , how fast is your blink?
Once a day to Him pray, “Thanks for love, life and things we care for.”

Make room in my heart to bless my days for it’s time I adore!
Every day is beautiful when counting plus one hundred years!

Heart To Heart With My Saviour
     Jeannie Flinn Furlong

So, Jesus! You rose. I recall those three days.
Your "life"! Continued with more enduring "love"
True bravery simplified following. New ways.

I imagined a small white shimmering "dove"
John beaming "joy" from his human connection,
Watching that newest Spirit, few had known of.

Pure anointment delivered God’s protection
You spread "hope" with "grace" for all by each true word.
My faith grows fuller, feeling your affection.

People learned. Knowing you from stories they heard.
Three in one: Father, Son, "Holy" Ghost. I see.
You began small. Next in flight with a white bird.

I know, Jesus. You are my reason…it’s key!
For heavenly ever after… you… and me.

THE RACE

In a rural
    country vale
Aylesbury's forgotten tale

a steeplechase
       from memory long gone
the four mile hunt
     from Waddesdon

Twenty
weighed in at the White Hart
the old windmill
   .. the place to start
riders famous & the well-heeled
racing across
         ditch &field.

each carrying
      twelve stone seven
the starters flag
      dropped at exactly eleven

across brook spinney &
      the Thame
seeking the prize pot & fame

in long furlong field
    the leaders showed
to the roars
    from the turnpike road
the well backed grey
became the toast
  winning
     by a length
     at
the red flagged post

SPARK
    Jeannie Flinn Furlong

My Head claimed, "It’s time to pen my feelings for you.
She thought your season had ripened to a friendly adieu…

I wanted my cleverness to sound brave and bold.
Instead, my betterment made noises … bitter and cold."

Head continued, "For sure, this logic's a perfect best!
A simple note, timed just right, brings greatest rest."

More pondering, Head touts, "She’ll agree, 'cause it’s really past due!
How could two people so profoundly different ever ever be true?"

Head adds, "Just keep right on walking, memories disappear.
Once passed THE break up, habits do fade. You’re soon in another sphere.

It becomes an odd chapter, far away in a book, one you read."
My Heart, hearing Head’s advice, came to life to shudder, "Drop dead!

Mister Head! What a nincompoop, you are! Love makes the world go round!
How could you? Dare you! Quite profound!

Mister, such a trip, so wonderful, is more than just a lark!
Opposites made for each other, we fire such a SPARK!”

Halloween’s Drummed!

Alien vampires hunt around the block,
Seeking abduction, plus feasting on prey
No trickery with haunt, just a soft shock.
Serious tracking to Vampires it’s play.
Delicately preparing this blood day
Striking their juglar rewarded a whiff
Cautionary. silent.. draining til stiff.
Slightly paralyzed delicately numbed
Halloween vampires come for a short jiff
Diabolical? Some say its quite drummed!

Tomorrows Not Yesterday

This nightmare drama so soon will perish.
I’ll remember the anguish but no tear.
We sort days for memories to cherish.
Yes! Resist all blatant aspect of fear.
Glimmering tomorrows will become clear.
Come join me! letting innocence unfold.
Put on the brightest crown to best your bold!
Follow instincts meeting new mystery
Challenge the waiting, believe in untold
Time does not linger, waiting history.

F-riends or enemies do come along too
R-ise with me higher than yesterday.

E-asily seen here acknowledged by a wave
E-asily noticed there by a nod of the head.

O-nly free for the doing.

Nature's Dance

Blue robin in garden sings a soothing song,
dew drops dance in rings blushing all along,
skew golden rays of strings covering a furlong,
new dawn of rebirth brings summer here daylong.
Few butterflies sprout wings to fly lifelong,
          strew colors on rushing springs where they belong;
queue of red ants clings to branches too strong,
view to a world of little kings all dressed wrong.
