I’m not a fan of seafood but don’t mind
a tuna salad or fried fish with fries.
In England, that’s called fish ‘n’ chips. I find
the same name used on menus here. My eyes
spy that title easily. I am awed.
By a nice huge serving of fish ‘n’ chips.
The fish is likely halibut or cod,
but the one that passes through my lips
most often is halibut (a flatfish).
It’s firmer – more substantial – than cod is.
However, it costs more than cod. I wish
it wasn’t so dang expensive. Gee whiz!
“Just for the halibut” I ask for it!
But that's no whim; I like it quite a bit.

Can campy cavorting canines cajole curious cats?
Bickering birdbrains boast between bogeyman’s bats….
Honorably heavenly heifers heighten historical hats,
Manageable Mandarin manatees make moody Michigan maps.
Neutralizing Nebraskans needing normal noontime naps.
Flamboyantly flipping fleshy flannel flea-flipping flatfish flaps.
Can campy cavorting canines cajole curious cats?

'Starfish!' said I, 'thing of a moray eel.'
Be it black ocean space;
Or in the breathing coral seas;
Back into my memories squiding;
To warn me about the sea turtle;
The cetacean coral reef crabbing;
Sharks and piranhas kidnapping;
I heard a tentacled, seagoing inking;
I wrote a story with the octopus pen;
I was a harbour porpoise and you a tuna sandwich;
The brokered bottlenose whale blossoming;
The sphinx moth singeing;
Only this and a sturgeon;
In there stepped a shovel nose 'whale shark';
In there stepped a 'lake trout.';
Dolphins lookout;
To warn me about the bluefin;
The foul flatfish forging;
All my soul within me gorging;
In there stepped a coral sea cucumber;
I have dreamed of the spadefish;
An echo murmured back the word, 'channel catfish!';
The brook trout smiled;
I felt compelled to sniff the squid;
Smells like fish;
It was squish;
Take thy bluegill from out my heart;
Embrace the wish;
Starfish

I
once
thought we
were one, that
you were my soul mate
until I realized that our
joint passion for a specific salt water flatfish
cooked in meuniere sauce was not sufficient to maintain a long lasting relationship

The swing of the rod
100 yds plus cast, good stuff
get's you just beyond the breakers
to where the inshore fish feed.
Turn of the tide
and incoming too
where you started at low tide
usually ends-up, as the tide rises
where you catch the fish
spilled bait in the sand , a magnet.
Hooking a big flatfish
is like winding-in
a carrier bag full of water
ponderous and heavy
but worth the effort.
So much more to it
best fishing at night
them being nocturnal
alone with your thoughts
very relaxing.
Can't now of course
arthritis put paid to that
but the memories are happy one's
of nights on the beaches
of North-East England.

Known for my large tusk coming from my canine tooth that is protruding,
Sexually attracted to the six years old female though I m thirteen,
Was swimming for predation, saw her chasing my favorite prey from benthic,
She was snatching my flatfish from dense pack of ice in the waters of Arctic,
Whistled in the hot weather, together from bays into the ocean we migrated,
With her I would live for another 40 years till I die, looked at her and vowed,
Summer gone and winter shattered my dreams when sea ice over her froze,
Bearing beautiful calves, came another Narwhal, stared at me, love again rose,
Mated with her in the season spring, sprung a newborn after fourteen months,
Dependent on milk, stays by his mother’s back, my cutie swims by her assistance.
