my russian blue cat
static like a statue
on the sun-warmed
window ledge
laser-focused eyes
fixate
on the gum tree
leaves tremble
then still
shrewd cat waits
wet nose
smearing the glass
a robin’s fleeting shadow
darts across
a pool of sunlight
diving into
the center of the light
then swooping back again
in a blur of motion
my cat pounces
chasing the robin
around
the carpeted floor
over and over
he paws at
the imaginary catch
but each time
elusive robin
slips away

Behind every person’s soul,
a universe quietly resides.
And I still find it strange
that despite that cosmic brilliance,
we circle back to fixate
on surface-level, fleeting things.
Things that could never touch
the depth of our own true radiance.
We never notice our own
beauty—isn’t that beautiful?

Isaac Newton is said to have stated,
'For every action,
or force in nature,
there is an equal and opposite reaction.'
And the proof in his pudding is...
If I exert myself
in search of who knows what I want to be,
it also brings to bear
an equal and opposite influence on me.
As, by doing so,
my own headwind I create,
which inhibits my progress,
and the harder I push, or fixate,
the more resistance I set up,
so to speak,
and the farther away I am
from finding whatever it is I seek.
Indubitably, it's a rule of thumb,
the more forward I go,
all the further behind I become,
but is it better to do nothing at all,
than beat my head against
an invisible brick wall?

My heart is bound with twin-distressed grommets
But every night I look up at the sky Waiting for a comet.
My eyes fixate and focus before they leak like faucets
And I glance up, I zealously try
To spot it, the elusive comet.
My fate seems tangled in spider webs
Where I'm the fruit fly awaiting demise
The anxiety flows, the panic ebbs
I hope I pass away before I realize....
Yes, I hope I die before I realize
Maybe the comet is never to come
It's Halley's comet I want before my eyes
And the outliving odds are zero to none....
...
My heart is bound with ever-loosening grommets
It feels ever so often, it's being taunted
But still I await, albeit halfheartedly,
I still await my comet.

Many people are too fixate on their past experience
Your past made you as you are today
But it doesn't define your future
Analyze your past to understand what actions and decisions
Brought you where you are today
Based on this analysis formulate ideas to be done
Take new solutions
Everyone has a resource to become anyone in the future
The Almighty God gave us hands, legs, feelings and brain
Start creating your new reality
Discover a new way of thinking without turning back
Your breakthrough is near if you search
Believe in the process
Act upon what's necessary
Everything will fall into place
Keep going what's right for you
Strive and never give up.

Nowhere is my place.
Escape evades my chase.
Shunned by lifes embrace.
Imbue with hindrance grace.
Consumed by peace I rot.
Exhume long hidden plot.
Solitude sought where it's not.
Accursed sanctum death forgot.
Self became a state of disassembling.
Formless integration of dismembering.
A gorgeous desecration of resembling.
Hopelessly fixate on not remembering.
Aimless unknown into wanderer strays.
Time lost in the wake of endless daze.
Necrosis grows so gorge on what decays.
Another phantom slipping out of phase.

My heart leapt with all joy, still does, with doe eyes.
Back in that day, before I knew Elton’s face, the sighs
of my sister and I, as we lie in our parents bed,
hours of tuning in to the sounds we were fed.
My heart leapt with all joy, as this Middlesex man
belted out this timebomb tune. Pop rock began.
Begins with innocence, new releases rocks repress,
with the leer of a crocodile on “Suzie’s tight dress.”
A young mind doesn’t fixate on innuendoes; doe eyes
recklessly leap and dance; with time, lyrics synthesize.
The moment I hear this tune, I’m back in time, inside
my Haviland skin, “hopping and bopping” amplified.

I take a step back and look at my canvas with inches of acrylic paint piled on as a result of trial and error.
Something is off.
Are the tones mismatched?
Why is it unbalanced?
Do I no longer like the subject matter?
I bite at my nails, I bounce my leg, my eyes dart from corner to corner.
Did I do something wrong?
I inhale and fixate on my palette.
Charcoal Gray, Crimson Red, Canary Yellow.
Beautiful, but wrong to me.
My hands open and the colors drop to the floor.
I rummage through the additional shades and pull out the one that is identical to the canvas.
The canvas I haven’t seen in years. The canvas riddled with subjective mistakes. The canvas that endured a lifetime of experimentation.
I untwist the cap, dip the brush directly inside, and slather the canvas.
Though the acrylic grew thicker and the texture of my previous strokes remained,
I was starting new.

He beats on the drum
The vibrations thrill
It makes me succumb
He goes for the kill
He sways as he plays
and beat after beat
puts me in a daze
He brings on the heat
My body's in time
to his every move
We are so in sync
This is a great groove
My eyes are transfixed
to him in the band
Drumsticks are flying
in capable hands
His eyes are shut tight
Lips? Slightly parted
Oh, how will he know...
what he has started?
Thumping and thrashing
his instrument quakes
Just like my body~~~
that quivers~~and~~shakes
I squirm in my seat,
wipe sweat from my brow
I get up and dance...
the moment is NOW!!!
Oh glory, oh me!
He opens his eyes
They fixate on me
can't hide his surprise
My fire consumes
Drum beat entrances
I want him so bad!
What are my chances?
His eyes fix on me
That look takes me in
I'm know what it means
Tonight is a win!
The beat, it dies down
He talks to the band
Comes down from the stage
takes me by the hand
He pulls me to him,
both dripping in sweat
We go on back stage
Make music? You BET!

Like sharks can fixate on a mark
Trolling hearts may strike something dark
Better to repair
Any inner despair
Before the snare of a love spark

Quicksand caught generation epoch,
restless whirring of a drill in the dust.
Zenith of color shifts saturation to none,
black and white film on video cassette.
Ensnared in a cage lowering to molten,
hourglass is losing sand to run dry.
Eyes fixate to the sunny horizon,
flicker dims as monsters crawl,
from beneath beds, closets,
bathroom stalls.
Those noises,
creaks in the floor,
are very real.
Ignore them,
rummy for thy belly to fill.

when i die, i want to be remembered through my poetry.
i want pictures and memories and kind words shared amongst my loved ones,
but what i want most is for somebody to hold a piece of paper in their hands.
i want them to feel it rub against their fingertips as they feel their eyes fixate on the ink.
i want them to read the naked truths i’ve poured straight from my heart onto the pages.
not much is going to be left of me.
nothing timeless anyway.
i want this paper to travel for years.
for generations.
in my sisters purse, on my children’s night stand,
in my wife’s back pocket.
i want a little piece of me to still remain whole.
i want them to be able to remember exactly who i was, from the ink i spilled onto paper,
many seasons ago.

Don't fixate on finding fault or assigning blame,
In life, there are no guarantees, even for love.
Visit that place in your heart where you first felt loved,
Organize your feelings and suppress selfish thoughts.
Remember, you are not the only one in pain,
Children are innocent, and yet, they feel guilt too.
Ease their conscience; don't let them believe they must choose.

It’s a first glance of injury, but a forming thought of illusion
Based on a history of empty answers and polished doubt
You try and trust in your instincts formed out of heavy confusion
The past interferes with future, by history you back out
Fear of falling for a trick leads to clouded reality
So you keep your mouth shut to a creature who cannot speak
It’s none of your business but you wonder what may be
A life built on tricks or a future truly bleak
You peek into your lifetime of unseen stupidity
A linear path of a heart faded by belief in lies
There are facts and memories that constitute timidity
That leave you to fixate on whether a bird flies

I was glad I cut off the relationship but you were so obsessive begging for my love when you know I had none left to give, our relationship was draining my energy, and I wanted to keep it as a memory, the more my current relationship collapsed, I felt the need to get a taste of the evocation, it felt like I was daydreaming in a vacation, yes I admit I did fixate on seeing you again, but this simply just has to end, I don’t see my life going on with the past stuck in my subconscious, I guess the dreams left me with the pain I inflicted on you leaving me with thoughts that are preconscious, the guilt is no longer heavy and we should forgive ourselves, I’m honestly glad we talked, but I’ve come to grips that you have changed, and so have I and the closure is set.
