Crocodile Rock - Elton John

My heart leapt with all joy, still does, with doe eyes. Back in that day, before I knew Elton’s face, the sighs of my sister and I, as we lie in our parents bed, hours of tuning in to the sounds we were fed. My heart leapt with all joy, as this Middlesex man belted out this timebomb tune. Pop rock began. Begins with innocence, new releases rocks repress, with the leer of a crocodile on “Suzie’s tight dress.” A young mind doesn’t fixate on innuendoes; doe eyes recklessly leap and dance; with time, lyrics synthesize. The moment I hear this tune, I’m back in time, inside my Haviland skin, “hopping and bopping” amplified.

I found a record player at my grand parents house. It was soul music for me. But benny and the jets will always be a favorite.

Not to mention what a showman Elton was with those wild outfits, outsize shades, and playing the piano standing p, ala Jerry Lee Lewis... Now, of course, he rails against the legalization of marijuana. Wisdom? I say: Too little, too late, Elton...

Dear Kim, this is a beautifully nostalgic journey, pulsing with rhythm and memory. Your words capture that pure, unfiltered joy of music shaping our youth. Funny thing Elton John said of all the songs he hates playing is Crocodile Rock and we all loved it. Winter Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Rock music has always been popular. We used to dance a lot, Lilian and I in days gone by. Still missing her and the music.

Yes, some songs do just as you expressed. It was with my little sister that memories, now precious, were made involving music / me - junior high and her - 2nd grade. How sweet they are and how grateful I am that your poem brought that feeling to me. Your poem may have even inspired my muse ... CayCay

Sublime! Elton John’s Benny and The Jets is my first ever favourite song, can’t remember how old I was, toddler probably! Elton forever a special place in my heart. Don’t let the sun go down on me GOOSEBUMPS every single time. xomo

A very infectious song. It makes me feel nostalgic, which is perfect, because the song when it was written, was nostalgic :-)
