When Mr Darcy brought my hand to his lips
Drenched in sweet longing before the scale tips
I, fraught with naivety and desire
Held trust cast into the furnace of mire
Dear friend, two offspring, a dog and a cat
In our fineries we waltzed to 'Take That'
Unbeknown to me, alas we were three
Lipstick etched upon my fine filigree
Teeth gnashing, I challenged indiscretion
He dismissed my genteel inquisition
Contact made with a bedpan appliance
Hence, now divorced in act of defiance
Dear reader, this ends with no tale of woe
On the dating app, I curtsey and go

Rosa the gem of flowers
the queen of every plant,
in spring she wears her fineries,
her beauty the eyes enchant.
Her colours are so attractive blushing with every hues,
her aroma is so romantic
to every love a muse.
Her greenish dress is gorgeous covering her prickly stem,
her glossy leaves are oval,
matching her precious gem.
As summer slowly approaches
and spring will disappear,
her rose buds,
as greenish nubs
will start to reappear.
With time her trunk will nourish
and her buds will have matured,
her tender petals shall slowly reveal beauty of great allure.
She’s found in every garden
and sits in every vase,
the site of Rosa in all events does leave a happy trace.

Congregation of deception,
Sitting in darkness and decked out
In fineries: the silk, the fur,
Feathered dull or bright, just waiting
To be called by river’s song, rings
Of rises yet hoped into fish.
Some are returned warriors,
Blunted and twisted out of true,
Though truth’s a lie for them and blends
Somehow beyond a memory.
Some new-made catchers of the eye,
Wait for their opportunity to come.
A hundred hopes and falsehoods rest
Under one hinged roof, lined up
To do or die, and every one
With a sharp point of view,
A heartbreak to be driven home.

The orchestra was loud when I walked in,
Performing a whimsical waltz by Strauss.
I picked a group of friends and settled-in,
And perused the fineries of the house.
The chandeliers were unevenly spaced,
Creating random spaces of shadows
Where intimate strangers chastely embraced,
And not-so-innocent virgins caroused.
A friendly acquaintance introduced me
To his available little sister.
Turned out she was charming and quite lovely,
So I gave up trying to resist her.
“I would be most honored, beyond measure;
If you’d care to dance, it’d be my pleasure.”

Money, you are such a fool,
Dastardly you run into pockets,
Where plenty is already stored.
You carry on like a heartless goon,
And they say you are a useful tool.
You have no regard for my needs,
Drawn to frivolous fineries,
Making lovely souvenirs in my starvation.
Your march from my account will not cease,
Oh how you love to watch me bleed.
Don’t think I can’t hear your mocking tone
Saying: why don’t I earn more?;
It’s not your fault I wasn’t born rich;
Or maybe I should just take out a loan;
Don’t worry about debt, just be glad for the dough.
But see money, I have a plan for you.
We may never be friends but we will be together.
Your disrespect and insouciance will be ignored,
While all my dreams come true.
And you shall be utterly silent,
When I’m enjoying my mansion’s view!

While Wall Street takes the plunge
- What next is there to come?
It’s enough to make one lunge
- Greed caused this mess to come
Though it’s nice to have the fineries in life
- Who is going to pay the price?
You can’t take it with you in the afterlife
- This too was the Egyptians vice
They, too, accumulated wealth
- Who did it serve in the end?
Even though Tut lost his health
- He couldn’t take it with him in the end

It’s true, I have forgotten you, Elaine,
Utterly, as leaves when leaving summer trees
Die unremembering, as they coast along the breeze
Toward autumn ground. No souvenirs remain.
Blurred images efface and fade. I cannot see your plain
White dress, bedecked with flowered fineries:
Poppies…yellow, orange, with Death-dark centers. Please
Believe my love’s dissolved, drowned in Fall’s grey rain.
Through dimming years I’ll rarely, any more
View you in my imaginings. Your summer-tinted hair
Of golden tawn recedes. My lust cannot recall
Your criminally-carnal figure, or
Your rose-flushed mouth. Romance lies in Death’s lair.
In autumn’s pall, I have forgotten all.
