A vibrant red cardinal bursts with song.
He's celebrating the break of dawn.
Slumbering souls awaken from rest
to the chords of his tiny throbbing breast.
The finches and robins join his serenade.
What a glorious symphony nature has made.

What an adventure
To see colorful birds that God designed
In a book someone left behind.
The title was Birds In Nature
When I opened it up I saw some awesome
Pictures
This was a great find.
What an adventure
To see colorful birds that God designed.
Delightful feathered creatures
Of all different kinds
Spread out through the pages of this book for
All of mankind
To see our earthly treasures
What an adventure
To see colorful birds that God designed.

Absorbing sunset colors as I sat,
I heard the soft mews of a mournful cat,
Lost somewhere in the garden near the lane.
For its forlorn owner I sought in vain.
Suddenly there came the sounds of quail calls
Though quail never feed here as evening falls.
Were their cries clues to where the cat was now?
I listened, careful, for the next meow.
Soon came a cascade of solo singing:
Robins, jays, finches sang as if on cue.
Which was that silent creeping cat stalking?
I would bet those birds wanted to know too.
Wrens, larks, and chickadees chimed cheerily;
All the while, nary a bird did I see.
I searched and I called for my feline friend;
Shrugging, I gave up, my search at an end.
I turned back to the house, walking slowly,
When the cat called from the sycamore tree.
I looked up as I thought I heard a dove;
There was the high-leaping sight that I love:
The silhouetted imitator sly
Of the untroubled rosy evening sky;
Colorful, charming, and sometimes absurd,
A fluttering, mimicking mockingbird.

traveling on their way south,

*Finches Dance*
Three finches gather at the old bird feeder
Nestled near the small patch of corn
Enthusiastically taking turns twirling around
Like at a ho down at the old Seller’s barn
Doing acrobatic dance maneuvers
As thistle seed falls merrily to the ground
Three happy finches dancing away the day
As shadows begin to emerge on the old wooden fence
Three weary finches danced their hearts out
A few feathers less than when they first begun

They're singing. They are.
The finches. They sing beauty.
That tree is their house.
How charming! Birds, music, tree.
And the sun, friendly, like them.
