People fight with nature
They dig the ground for gems
For oil, for water, for shelter
For energy, for food, for life
And for regeneration.
As a child
You reminded me of Santa
With your jolly face and
Your big round tummy
The way you chuckled brought
Lots of laughter into my life
You had a happy soul
As a teen
You tried to teach me
The ways of life, along
With its painful ups and downs
You tried to prepare me
For the future and not to be
Afraid of it
When in pain you comforted me
Making everything better
You was my angel
As an adult
You got sick, as I held
Your hand and comforted you
You took your last breath
Almost taking mine with you but
Ripping my heart out instead
Some evenings while I sit
I reminisce about you even
Visualizing you standing there
With a great big smile on your face
“Fats” passed away, an icon from the fifties
Remembered fondly, for his rock'n roll ditties
Gave us a thrill
On Blueberry Hill
Many followed but “Fats” was Mr. Nifty
Feasting on burgers, chips,
French fries, pizza, ice cream
Fettuccine and pies
Fills our bodies with fat.
Fish, right oils and nuts are
Fabulous for us, so
Feed your face with good fats!

Are you listening to me ...
turn off that t.v.
he looks like a monkey
swinging in a tree, she would yell
so mad and I'd be so sad
to have to turn away
when I was set to sway
with the Fat Man.
"I found my thrill
on Blueberry Hill" and my heart lept
when he smiled.
My Mamma was a racist
who hated Little Richard or Fats
while she watched Elvis or Dean
and squealed like a teen.
I would hurry home from school
just to catch my bandstand man as
"the wind in the willow played
love's sweet melody",
and I prayed my Mamma would be late.
But, here she'd come right on time
yelling at the picture
of a genius in his prime.
