Earnestness Poems | Examples

The Postman

He schleps constantly at noon
Through declivities and straight roads,
Bearing messages sealed by the hands
That laid them bare in the first place.
Sweat caresses his face, forming one mass of
Earnestness in every breath of delivery.
“Hello,” he says, “your mail. Your package.”
My palm breathes harder, having neared his.
I sign the delivery paper and reach out for the
Package.
He is fussy with time and gets rewarded when
The Christmas bells chime slowly
From wintry belfries posting blandishments of
Yuletide.

Merry Christmas!

A bright coin rolls into his palms and greases them.

He welcomes titbits of news within crimson cards.
His lungs inhale airs of chaperoned champagnes
Amid the voice of canticles, soft and secret.

Pilgrimage

I sit, this morn, on the bed of
A dried-up rivulet,
Head-bent and full of compunction.
It’s clam-quiet except for the impatient
Squawks above which prompt my heartbeat.
I raise my head, heavy with grief.
Climbers and weevils align in a silent choir,
Singing with precision the lines of a forgotten
Mirth.
It’s 5 o’clock in the morning — a time when
Cockcrows are loud enough to wake the dead.
I cringe and slink as I traipse about in the dead woods,
Among the cadavers of river plants, decimated,
Deserted, and vitiated through seasons’ flagrant ebb.
I see shadows that sing with their mouths tightly shut.
Like them all, I, too, am lonesome, and I draw about me
The dry waves of parched waters.
On my lips is a certain prayer — a revised edition of the
Paternoster.
Return, waters, return from the underrocks, I pray thee.
My sorrows are old and fragile.
Hoots and cries and stridulations beseech me.
I have picked my way among paths that
Cuddle the feet in sympathy and soothe
The souls that hide from the earnestness of
Sunrise.
Wash my dry naked feet, O waters,
And grease my palms so cracked from
Endless chafing.

Paris

One glorious, sun-drenched, thirsty December day,
I sat, numbed with the agedness of a visitor, and
Fumed eloquently with joy for the benefit of the
Seine – the ointment of Paris.
Somewhere along the gritty line laid bare by sere weeds
Of winter,
A restless tranter eulogised:
“Ce est Paris!”
From the whistling, grating metro to the navel of
Elevated Eiffel, the tall, metallic maiden,
I saw frantic beauty.
I inhaled the peace of the atrium, sighting
Our Dame....
“Ce est Paris!”
The voice, girly, and with the earnestness
Of chivalrous youth, came again, cold and soft,
Just the way of a sprightly winter.
Turning, I saw Paris in full nakedness of her beauty, like
A priceless fresco hanging from the sky.
“Do you need company?” The tranter anglicised her French.
In one gulp I swallowed the pride of Paris.
“Hmmm!” I grunted, wincing loudly from brio,
Counting my woes should I plod away to the red light areas,
“Give me Shakespeare and Company”.

Premium MemberAdorable as a Puppy

She had an adorable cheekiness
Impish mannerisms, coquettish way
There was a fresh earnestness about her
She was not a rogue, but close
Loveable as a three-month-old puppy
With ginger hair instead of fur
And those large chocolate puppy-dog eyes

Love, strongest emotion, feeling divine,
When life becomes bitter and tough, we pine
For a thoughtful hand to hold, not resign,
lean on a soul intertwining with mine.

When pure Love blossoms, egos disappear,
It's an earnestness for someone so dear,
A child's eternal love for his mother,
A friend's sincere affection for his peer...

Life turns cruel prison without love true,
Life's harshest moments we do overcome,
It's a sublime blessing which gets us through,
When sorrowful and anxious we become.

Travelling uphill paths of life unknown,
I know You're with me, I am not alone!

Premium MemberPRAISE BE TO GOD WHO CONFIRMS OUR PRAYER

May 4 Praises to God Bible Meditations Based on 1Chronicles 14-15

Key Verse – 1Chronicles 14:2 And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.

PRAISE BE TO GOD WHO CONFIRMS OUR PRAYER

Praise be to God for confirming our prayer:
Perceived by His enlightenment
Presented with earnestness
Propelled for edification
Propped upon eternity
Pushed to evangelize

1Chronicles 14:10 Praise be to the Lord Who
responds to our enquiry that assures:
Truth that is tested
Triumph against tests
Thanksgiving midst trials
Trust with thoughtfulness
Tact tackling tremendous tricks

1Chronicles 15:26 Praise be to the Saviour
for His help that is:
Always strong
Assertively sure
Abundantly supplied
Affirmatively Scriptural
Available and safely steadfast. Amen!

Premium MemberWinter Slumber

On the wings of winter afloat abandoned in northern wind,
the wilted leaves of longing waft away rustling recluse,
my frosted nest clings captive to the skeletal tree,
I count in heartbeat the footsteps of frozen twilight hour.

The elan of earnestness turns into arctic embrace,
as you fly away to the sun shine sky of indigo incognito.
In the frosted debris of desolation in the glacial nest,
I hibernate in memory with the frozen feather you leave.

The lonely bird languishes with the wings twisted in torment,
folded up within the mangled manor of the marooned mind.
I can’t fly in the wake of your evanescent flight,
my heart’s fervent warmth dissipates unfelt.

The latent desire to span the sky sinks in the sad eyes,
the feelings fail to touch the remote reminiscence,
as I find the defoliated trees dance in the snow sonata,
attuned to the melody of the song of winter wonders.

The winter blizzard blowing in my wanton world
immobilizes the weary wings of my frigid fervor,
brings the breath of old times through the frosted door of mind,
in my winter slumber I dream you will return in spring.

                                                 Earthly Reality

The day silently journey toward anonymity with eyes wide awake

while a plethora of resolute flora thrives in a remote wilderness

Sacred sanctuary surreptitiously shelters slithering startled snake

as teardrops shaped raindrops inundate crops with earnestness

Moonlight ascend unfettered diffusing a dazzling gloss at its wake

illuminates silhouettes of grieving spirits drowning in emptiness

Noble acts of love could nurture even the tiniest forlorn snowflake

capable in igniting that dimming sparkle of human virtuousness

Premium MemberRed Moon Rising

From the falling edge of the ebony night sky,
as the surmounting shroud of despair darts,
the promise of the full moon I’ve made to you,
I’ll keep before the enwrapping eclipse starts.

As the cloud clumps clear at the fall of night,
I rise from the strewn debris of the fallen sky,
the opulence of your grace captures my sight,
my dormant desire to reach you soars high.

Your image then comes to me as an astral boon,
designs the leitmotif of longing in your lilting glow,
entices my shadow to touch the tainted moon,
you’ll realize the earnestness my effort will show.

Within my desolate darkness deepening fast,
you in my orbit gleam with the moonshine grace,
while the floating tinsels of the silver dust
flutter like fairy wings on your silhouette face.

The sun of desire aligns with my heart precisely,
bloody flush flashes on your face devastating.
As the penumbra of my passion eclipses you totally,
your visage turns into the rare red moon rising.

The Fascination of God

The tweeting birds sound so dulcet,
The clear blue sky oh so high!
The many gardens and their fences,
The dew drops dripping from leaves
The forests giving out clues,
The earnestness of the wind,
It narrates the life in brief;
You will find yourself lost in the arms of nature,
Where you will find only peace and affection.
The picturesque beauty of nature will daze you,
And all your worries will cease
That's the fascination, illusion of Mother Nature.

Premium MemberA Hypocrite

Visiting a church
Doesn’t assure the world
That you are a light,
Your heart – with God, it’s right

Speaking some words
Even though they may be good
Doesn’t assure the world
That you’re living for the Lord

Listening to a sermon
Without ever changing the heart
Never giving back – never giving hope
Promises the world
That you are someone
Who is a pretender – don’t you remember
God knows what you are
Inside, where no one else breathes…
He reveals the true spirit!

It takes more than church, words or preaching
To change a heart, a life, a believer
It takes an honest and sincere hearer
Listening without deceiving – never pretending
Always remembering to pray for His will
Believe in His gift, the whisper of grace…

It takes more than just a walk to the alter
It takes genuineness, authenticity…
Belief that is sincere and gives God the praise
It takes earnestness, seriousness…
Belief that is alive and survives the test of time
It takes heartfelt conviction and openness..,
Belief that promises to follow Him always - everywhere!

April 19, 2022 Scripture Meditations Based on Esther 7-10

Key Verse – Esther 8:16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.

MY GOD, THANK YOU FOR GRANTING ME YOUR SALVATION’S JOY

Thank You for granting me Your salvation’s joy
Such I accept with mirth-filled gratefulness
Along worship’s earnestness
By Your loving kindness.

Thank You for granting me Your salvation’s joy and light
Such I delight in with illumined sight
Along wisdom’s plight
By Your direction so true and right.

Thank You for granting me Your salvation’s joy and honor
Such I rely upon with sincere fervor
Along willingness’ clamor
By Your merciful ardor.

Thank You for granting me Your salvation’s joy and victory
Such I trust with jubilant testimonial story
Along Word’s miracle-territory
By Your magnificent glory.

Thank You for granting me Your salvation’s joy and restoration
Such I receive with heartfelt appreciation
Along work’s dedication
By Your powerful motivation.

Thank You for granting me Your salvation’s joy and contentment
Such I yearn for with prayerful sentiment
Along watchfulness’ predicament
By Your perfecting fulfillment.

Premium MemberAllegory of Falling In Love

Poetry notebook in my jittery hand, I vacillate
what if she finds it dull… obtuse…
   beneath her... culturally insensitive?
What if she laughs at its pathos,
   groans at its length,
   smirks at its earnestness?
As I begin to falter, I ask myself
(denying all the aching echoes of indifference)
how much could it possibly hurt if she doesn't like it?
Could I ever forgive myself if I chicken out?
As my internal arguments fire torpedoes at each other,
   she begins to walk away.

Incensed at my cowardice, I detect a gravitational pull
impelled by the bonfire of urgency
lit by a lightning bolt of past meltdowns
I take a step of infinite unknowingness, and clear my throat
"Hi, I'm in your writing class…
might I ask for a brief moment of your time?"
   ...silence.
She glances at my poem, then stares into my eyes -
stretched between two souls is an imaginary tightrope
leveling her balancing pole, she slowly smiles…
"I thought you'd never ask"

Missionaries… called by God to preach* and perform what they teach

anchored upon Scriptures, exemplifying Christ in good works’ earnestness

souls they compassionately win, as hearts by grace they reach

labouring with mercy and truth, praying while building lives, despite afflictions

sacrificing, taking up own cross, conquering individual selfishness

presenting Gospel of redemption; to repent, fellow men beseech

while offering eternal security as gift from the Saviour’s loving kindness.

*1Corinthians 9:14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
