Duchy Poems | Examples

The Sandringham Sonnet

The Queen released a long and weary sigh
Her cherished grandson, Harry, had jumped ship
He clearly did not understand just why
His fellow Royals are joined at the hip

‘Your destiny, dear boy, is to remain’
said Charles, his father, clearly under stress
‘within the Royal firm - let me explain
If you go now, we’ll all be in a mess’

‘Dear Mummy has had just about enough
With uncle Andrew’s ventures overseas
Now you and Meghan tell us to get stuffed
And bring the institution to it’s knees

But Harry’s mind had drifted far away
The Sussex Brand – or Duchy of L.A?

Premium Member Genius

GENIUS

ingenuity in genius,
the genie generously
gifted the flume —
the unusual plummet
from the ultimate
to the grand duchy splash.

cascading waterfall of bliss
in continuous harrowing twist
of rainbow fish. golden scales
sprout perennially like the thrust
of a fountain top —

nude skin kisses the purple sky,
dives into the rich deep torrent
in search of secret treasure —
where some swallow bubbles
in fear of sharks and whale-size
caverns — wisdom sought,
taught as a spark amidst the dark.

true genius never evil,
not a mad scientist,
but a joyous soul
in dizzying baptismal vortex,
hand in hand with the Everlasting Light
who has everything, under control.

Limerick : Once a Grand Duke in Londonderry

Once a Grand Duke in Londonderry
Thought he could run his own Grand Duchy
So he slammed door on Queen
Gave full vent to his spleen
Now he’s left with trillion debt treasury.

The Dukes Tale

The Duke of Plouck surveyed his Duchy from the window in the tower,
Then he went to meet with his spies because that’s how you hold on to power.

And in his mind he’d developed a plan to gain favor with the King,
By uncovering a conspiracy and save Eric from meeting with death’s sting.

So when his spies brought him word and news of a possible threat,
The Duke made sure that it came to pass so the King would be in his debt.

His spies had learned of an outcast man who wandered from town to town,
Who brought misfortune wherever he went and was scorned when he came around.

So the Duke forged a letter to this man saying that the King would take him in,
Then the Duke could easily save the day before trouble had chance to begin.

Deceitful guile spins a spidery web and none it seems are safe from it,
Take extra care my shadowy friend because occasionally the spider will get bit.
