Premium MemberThe Mickey Mouse Clock

Already the morning
is full of momentum
and is beginning to crash through
the defences, leaving pieces
scattered behind.
There are always broken
things left in the wake of time.
Take that Mickey Mouse clock
for example
with the snapped spring
and missing hand, the toy truck
with the bent and rusted out
trailer, the football
with its perished bladder.
You would gather up
all the broken toys
and put them in a box
in the vague hope that one day
they could be fixed.
They never were.
A life always leaves
a long trail of debris behind
until there is nothing left
to fall off, break or perish.

The Prismatic Self

I write my soul in ink on paper,
My skin is stripped away,
Blood replaced with ink that flows through my veins,
Defences shattered and the visage of lies is broken,
My mask is taken from my hand and replaced with a pen,
I don’t have to hide my feelings,
Feelings that are so destructive they must stay hidden,
Hidden from those I love and care for,
“Yet you still share your poetry”
Anonymous. Always.
Maybe I like the mask,
Mask is my friend,
Mask helps me win the contests,
Mask helps me make people proud.
But when my mask is on they call me a liar,
Am I liar?
Is the ink on the paper really my soul,
Or a twisted caricature of who I believe I am?
Do I know my soul at all,
Or is it as true as looking in a circus mirror
The circus mirrors make me feel sick.
Or is it just me who’s sick?

Premium MemberOn any ground

When you’ve been subjected to violence, scars and bruises tell.
When you’ve been subjected to violence the mind doesn’t trust people that well.

When you’ve been subjected to cruelty the scars don’t necessarily show.
When you’ve been subjected to cruelty the internal bruises can grow.

Finding ways to deal with… why!

Why do I react like that?
Why do I cry?

Years and decades to absorb the grief. Then lie to yourself before admitting through your teeth.

Bury the confusion, bury the pain.
That’s how we live and will remain.

Seeking help can ease your mind. Seeking help can fast rewind.
Facing the past can shine new light.
Defences can be built, there’s no need to fight.
Mechanisms to deal with triggers can be found.

Then you can walk in light and peace on any ground.

Mind of The Heart

uncontrollable,
taking action with no regard to the consequences.
a wounded warrior learning from it mistakes building its defences.
too say this lethal heart has a mind is absurd,
broken and shattered because of its blindness,
deeply wounded by every word.
then it gets attached to another heart,
mended from its mistakes,
until its time to part.
another lesson to learn,
another burden to carry,
another defence to rebuild,
now you got to try live a life while you try block out its howls,
you have to feel the pain of it yearn.

In An Instant

As he spoke,
His words were like a hammer, shattering the defences of darkness.
They were like light tunnelling through the night.
They were like the sun rising to brighten the sky.

Oh, we were misled by our choices.
Oh, we were obscured by our decisions.
We walked believing in our desires,
Holding the lamps of our preferences.

They are eyes that see further than we can.
They can see through the veiled.
They are minds that access the chambers of secrets,
Searching the depths of the hidden.

The sage dispelled gloom from our rooms,
Showing our feet the right paths.
He made us see what was present but unknown,
Opening the door to a new dawn.

Premium MemberReflection and doubt

Sententiousness I seriously cannot bear
Just picture the gruesome scene
When the true blues ten in a row will capture
Seen by many as a purposeless pursuit
Such grim moments see us drop our defences
To give meaning to our existence
And yet who can ever be sure and rightly know
Where the dues of poetry must be fully paid
But,thank God,the memories will remain
I can reflect upon what it all meant

Premium MemberLove In The Trenches

Now this is my definition of love
It's much like wrestling in the mud
You get down and dirty
And say things quite flirty
Then it all comes together with a thud

You scream bloody murder together
Promise your undying love forever
Roll over and whisper
The name of her sister
Then you realize that wasn't too clever

She pummels your head without mercy
You attempt to defend against her fury
You start to see rainbows
And a bunch of pretty halos
A ferocious little dynamo this girlie

Well eventually you recover your senses
And are able to put up some defences
You plant a big smacker
On this sweet li'l attacker
Then it's back to love in the trenches

Spring is Here

The birth of Springtime in ways it’s seeming,
Fresh from the hive, the bees will now fly fine.
Surges of honey drops, it’s been teeming.
Pollen from honeysuckle on the vine.

Premonitions temp the mindful senses.
Lilies perfection slides over the green.
Softly heighten most wildly defences.
White forget-me-nots blossoms will be seen

On coloured wings, in sweet violet groves.
Sun flowers blooming with yellow desires.
Thoughts wonder, mid softly, plentiful troves.
Poetry flowed while the poet conspires.

With trickling gold frost symphonies explored,
The onset of Spring beauty has restored.

Ever present, sometimes languished,
Almost gone, then reestablished.
This is why, defences high!
To your offer, no reply...

For Sara: My Wife

For all my feelings
My opinion has no meaning
I try to express emotion
Why do I bother speaking
I tell her that I love her
I truly believe that she's beautiful
She sheds tears as she says "Thank you
But your words are just dutiful"
She can't see what I do about her
Her walls are just built too high
Her defences are set too deep
All I can do is try
And that is what I will do
Even if it takes the rest of my life
She will know my words are true
As is my love til the end of time

THE WORLD OUTSIDE

THE WORLD OUTSIDE

Be inspired by nature in the raw
At its core, a real and living thing
It can bring life to all the senses
No defences, just lost in wonder
What lies under, often hard to see
A long history, but is always new

Many, by tech, can be engrossed
For most, life never has to be real
Can they feel like many others do
What is true should be embraced
Smell and taste, sound and vision

After watching hours of animation
No consideration of world reality
Fake normality is a tempting trap
Just flick and tap on a tiny screen
Life between two kinds of artifice

Premium MemberSigrid's Sandbags

Braced to fight tough for triumph
         Stockpiled testosterone
         Fizzed bicarb in her bloodstream
         Sucked bitterness alone

         Flooded home, battle surmounted
         Safeguard marshy roost
         Maladvised maveric trudged pond
         Stacking bags of no use

         Swirling water swarmed by spiders
         Fear erased from register
         Starless, deserted street industrial
         Duty lead dim endeavour

         Depth defiantly rejected her efforts
         Scream's echoing ignorant
         Yelled "help" at selected emptiness
         Six months pregnant Sigrid

         Fortfied ego, throat sore, exhausted
         Dry in her fortress upstairs
         Concede agitated bruises encumber
         Defences laid dull despairs

                      31st March
          Dependence is not defeat

Prioritisation

No time for trivialities that hinders my good will
The hunted now the huntress aiming for the kill,
Though, I was diverted that paused my prime pursuit
Now, I've caught clearer thought and arts I'll execute.
And if they dare to put me down for jealousy a norm
I'll sharpen my defences and they I'll out perform,
As labours toll from work of goal will not be ill sordid
Where triumph and victory unifies rewarded.
No time to idle in this life where miracles occur
Duties turn to beauties when aspirations stir,
Climbing ancient mountains where rocky tracks are rough
Only makes one stronger to go beyond, and tough.
With experience I will win evermore with fairness
Changes were embraced to enhance awareness
Important work to engage for deliverance of mine
Whilst any less you may guess I shall not have time.

Terra Incognita

I do not know what lies
           beyond that inner boundary
I have never dared venture there

a tender place
kept carefully guarded
lest l breach its defences

I think a wound from the past lies there
but I am afraid to look

Doing Swimmingly

I a woman of sixty and seven have come to realize
There is more here going on than is evident to the eyes

What is allowed by ego to filter through our defences
Is not the sum total registered by our senses

As we are able to carry the weight like a mother doting
Incrementally it sifts it through without sugar coating

We see what we are ready to see unedited without bias
No matter the seas that lay ahead we say in confidence Try Us

Last Friday week I learned to swim after being the banker for years
Finding I'm hyped to name and address all my other fears

I want to live life conscientiously enslaved to nothing but God
The trainers are off on my way giving my governess a nod
