In the Midst of Winter

In the midst of sullen snows
pink cherry blossoms burst open ~
 spring garden introduction

in the midst of frozen icicles
 yellow daffodils spring up ~
  debutants of spring

in the midst of howling storm winds
white snowdrops vault through frozen soil ~
  coming out party

in the midst of of winter wildness
golden jasmina scamper up treliss' ~
  debuts in spring society

In the midst of blazing blizzards
purple crocus stand tall against the cold ~
 lady of the vernal court

In the midst of untamed storms
rosy tulips make their entrance ~
  starlets on a frozen carpet

In the midst of sneering snowflake showers
 lavender blue glory-of-the-snow enters ~
 presented to spring

In the midst of hoary frost
purple daphne spreads enticing perfume ~
 escorted by the equinox

In the midst of winter's frenzy
 young floral women arrive
 grace and beauty holding hope.

Turning sun's touch realign and tilt
Languid brooks scarce compete with hardy
The breeze of ease reposing and tardy
As debutants of summer seem to wilt

Premium MemberReturn To Grandeur

Those dreamy days of dulcet splendor reign
As songbirds fill the skies and buds appear
Sweet iris blossoms line the country lane
Their bearded lace announcing spring is here

The resurrection of once-frozen roots
Produces grandeur in each garden patch
As nature’s flowers don their finest suits
And nests appear in limbs where robins hatch

The debutants in chiffon gowns await
Slow dances with brash boys who’ll seek a kiss
‘Neath sequin stars rapt lovers speak of fate
As climbing buds on trellises dehisce

Cocoons are shed and butterflies step out
Earth’s kindest season ushers joy throughout

Turning sun's touch realign and tilt
Languid brooks scarce compete with hardy
The breeze of ease reposing and tardy
As debutants of summer seem to wilt

Forests draped in glorious orange dress
Bestows blessings upon the autumn bride
Fancy June too fickle for October pride
Her harvest of bounty demands to impress

Sunsets richer, night loon serenade
Moon more crisp, crickets chirp brisk
Romancing in red is worth the risk
As waterfalls of leaves cascade

In this palette of color Mother Earth grants
The year closes on a gift of wonder
Living blaze before cold ices under
These painted weeks of Picasso, of Rembrandt-

A
crystal
delicate
menagerie
waiting for the morn
like nature's debutants -
all with sparkling limbs adorned.
The spotlight of the golden glow
now glistening like glass tapestry
and tinkling like an intricate wind charm.

Pomposity

The Perfect life, a wife half his age
Their house grand, with a zip code to match
No hawkers, appointments only

The library full of Shakespeare
Never opened, for it’s the show that counts

Dinner Parties, A new painting
Purchased, because we can,
A favourite phrase for American wealth,

Pompous talk of Wine and Poetry
Vinegar, and Plagiarism their only worth,
Still the new boob job to admire

The children, off to England, Trophy kids,
Breast fed by American Express.
The Debutants Ball awaits them
And a hoorah Henry wedding their destiny

Church on Sunday
New money at the front
The old money sitting in the private pew
God for sale,
And the greenback will mop the saint’s brow

Even in death a grand memorial
But decay gives no privilege
Let’s hope the pearly gates are the right colour
And god has the right zip code
For pomposity, might just send them to the wrong house.

Ghosts of War

Within the fog of did you see?
An old woman, made up to the nines
Can be seen in the corner of the non-believers eye
Purse in hand and a glass of wine
Waiting for a lover who never comes

Just shadows on the wall
Whispering names, through
Spiders silk, the inheritors
Of this forgotten, debutants ball

While Portraits glare at vacant laughter
An echoed waltz swirls
The embrace of loves decay,
Images now jailed within the Crystal shards
Of a fallen chandelier

A tear of Woman wears mourning face well,
This vigil Mask hiding mortality lost
Now broken and marking time,

Love lies lost in the barbed wire of war
Fallen stars to shine no more
Their Remembrance merging into darkness
Behind a cloudless unforgiving sky

Alone is the corpse in cratered field
Covered by poppies blood
Walked on by ghosts to come

Another Whispered soul is roaming
The guns have left their post
And Peace is just an illusion
For yet another Flanders ghost

This cruel winter’s night
The withered rose has lost its fragrance
The champagne has all gone flat
And love calls without an answer
For silence is the memory
And it is we
Who walk hand in hand
With our ghosts of War?
