The 10th July 2009
7 soldiers died on the front line
Panthers Claw the op was called
Sangin district is where we toured
2nd battalion the rifles had a few bad days
With many a soldier still in that haze
Sangin DC or Fob Rob to others
Left a lot of grieving mothers
The worst fatalities in all the years
Fighting insurgents bringing with it tears
You can't help but to think why
Another of service men and women should die
Others left with life changing injuries
From gunshot wounds to triple amputees
Swift and bold the motto was
But leaving the gates everyone was anxious
Even today 14 years on.
Soldiers struggling feeling they don't belong
Mentally and physically exhausting it is
The mind playing games taking the piss
Rifleman Simpson and Rfn jo Murphy
Cpl Jon horne and Cpl Scot Lee
James backhouse and Sgt Paul mcaleese
William Aldridge lives taken with ease
I know war is war
And casualties happen
But why should this be
Those who survive get PTSD

Give an hand to Corporal Klinger
Went to Korea, not to linger
He did give a damn
But to Uncle Sam
He doth bequeath his middle finger

(wow...

sand time...wind blow'n...here now...
weather report...dust storms...yup...
you better believe it mister...
cause if you don't you're in for a shock...
just look around...hic...focus on the blur...
a mammals time fog is an insects clear air...
that's the flow...it's all in the wiring of the brain...
dragon fly season's coming...they swarm-eat mosquitoes...
and black flies too...in mid air...so no...don't let them scare yuh...
this is cpl o'reilly of the 4077th...
signing off...
with regards that 'time fog' thing...the constant insect blur...
they've four to five times our visual dexterity and speed...right...
insects live shorter lives because their time passes more quickly...ummm...
lost count...anyway...so holy cow mister...don't go think'n it's yer glasses...
them dragon flies don't want you...they want what bugs you...

the evening was quite rushed as dalloway sat
calling to the tamed and wildly educated
an yet the daintiness allowed an infatuated
nest of kindness inspite the poised night
that brought such a gracious glare in sight
while the meaning of a lighthouse sung soft
away from the dark stairs and garden loft
the day turned down a silent orange sigh
between the gleaming spears that went on by
casting over shores and river banks
while the shores sung o'glory to all of her tanks
while the canvas shouted out a quaint theme
bringing the sand to rise the river streams
and patience so galently removed an yet
the sunshined at bay without even a fret
as the wind rushed through the crowded breeze
leaving little room to even raise a sleeve
while the cape cod was surely missed
as it was the purity of freedom so well kissed
for the days grew short but war indeed is no sport

The day you left
To go to war
As you turned to me
Amor
In trenches deep
Entrenched in love
Please return
My loving Dove
Battles fought
Heard on the news
Platoons hit
Who did we lose?
No telegram
Like World War Two
Staff car, knock knock,
It can't be you
Sit down Mrs Fraser
We have to say
Cpl Fraser was wounded
Yesterday,
From shrapnel fired from an R.P.G.
We are sad to inform the loss of he
I sit in tears
Your photo in hand
I feel alive
But oh so bland
Do I tell the kids, nothings wrong!
When they ask
Will you be gone for long?
