When You'Re Gone

The day you left To go to war As you turned to me Amor In trenches deep Entrenched in love Please return My loving Dove Battles fought Heard on the news Platoons hit Who did we lose? No telegram Like World War Two Staff car, knock knock, It can't be you Sit down Mrs Fraser We have to say Cpl Fraser was wounded Yesterday, From shrapnel fired from an R.P.G. We are sad to inform the loss of he I sit in tears Your photo in hand I feel alive But oh so bland Do I tell the kids, nothings wrong! When they ask Will you be gone for long? .

Greetings again James. I finally got around to reading this piece and I see what you mean, our two poems are alike. I enjoyed reading this but kind of got stuck at the line "Your photo in my hand". I would have left off the word my and written "Your photo in hand". Don't mean to step on your toes, it is a well written piece and I felt Mrs. Frasers saddness and totally felt her quandry as to just what to tell the children. Melody?

James...I believe this hits home more then mine did. The part about the kids just about tears me up. I was in the military for 4 years so I understand all of this and have seen it. The thought has raced though my mind if I would ever see my kids again. I'm glad I'm out now and living a normal life. Great poem though. I loved it. It trully touched my heart. Nate

Hi James! Just took a break to visit the site and see what you had posted today. I'm addicted to your poetry. This is a very compelling and sad (but beautifully written as always). Was this about your grandfather or another family member? It has a very "real" sense to it. Excellent work! Love, Carolyn

War is bad. Death is everywhere. Why must we humans do such? This poem is strong and sad. Is this true family history about your dad? Or brother? Or who? God bless you and your famioly. Love, Dane
