Tears of the Dragon
I splashed water on my face;
the mirror cracked in half -
a reflection of fear and doubt.
It was dark in that cold place
of shattered scales.The sea -
rushing over that rusty sink;
and I can’t think about it.
My wings are clipped;
my breath’s dry sulfur.
I said my prayers;
the mirror just chortled.
Chilblains chatter, sore;
the floor, a horror show.
It was doubtful I’m standing -
what for.
Eruption of the mirror
dares me to peek,
but I’m six feet under
my sheets.
It’s Winter here; I drag my tail.
My sharp-teeth-grief’s unyielding.
Of fierce and fiery tears - there is no end;
unholy flames of years misspent.

No abode,
Told to move on,
Where to?
No offerings,
Blankets worn and frayed,
Cold stiff joints,
Frostbite?
Shoes threadbare,
Chilblains?
I gaze high,
The star glows,
My stomach groans hard,
I pack my meagre bag,
Then,
head for the stable

Suspense is a thing worth not knowing
Dying for the knowledge of the mystery
From novice to brainiac ever flowing,
Slipping into the dark annals of history.
Shudders at the noise of victims’ crying
Suspense is a thing worth not knowing,
Keeping chilblains on the skin denying
Revealing information ne’er extolling.
Red herrings by the hundreds growing
In long heralded stories not so mastered
Suspense is a thing worth not knowing,
Fabled tales of untamed roguish bastards.
Best sellers from all leather anthologies
With black ravens and murderous crowing,
Translated to filmdom with no apologies
Suspense is a thing worth not knowing.

Jumpers
darned with wool
Trousers
patched for school
Shoes scuffed
left unlaced
Teeth frame
in metal brace
Dripping noses &
chilblains
Scarfs &
finger mitts
Ears muffled
against the chill
Free school milk
solid on the sill.

A winters’ morning
A cold frosty morning, the tired moon is yawning,
The sun, barely just glows,
Winter is calling, snowflakes are falling,
Everywhere covered by snows,
Inside those wool mittens, fingers frostbitten,
Chilblains and little red nose,
North wind is whipping, shoes keep on slipping,
On puddles now solid and froze,
The kids are all coughing, skipping and hopping,
Trying to keep themselves warm,
Water drip dropping, freezing then stopping,
Icicles starting to form,
Lightening is flashing, the thunder is crashing,
Start of a seasonal storm,
Branches are thrashing, bending and snapping,
A freezing cold, wintery morn.

Come now, you days so dreary,
with thoughts mundane and weary.
Both windy rain and bitter cold,
find comfort in blains and days of old.
To sit and sigh and wonder why
this if and when the eyes are dry
and the coals no longer lit are pale
in the wake of stormy frozen gale.
Until the frost is no longer on the glass
neither inside, outside in stormy blast.
And the Spring thaw comes in strident strain
to greet us with warmth and smiles again.
It lays a comfort blanket on us in haste as
we smile inside ourselves...what a waste!!!
While sitting we muse upon our fate....
Glad it rests not in the hands of a potentate

Jack Frost, a naughty hellion's arrival is often afeared.
Acrimoniously he brings his uncharitable winter baggage of
Chilblains, clattering teeth, frost bites, snow blindness,
Knocking down the strongest in sleety ice and frozen snow.
Fathomless is his mischief with kids in winter, and
Roars in laughter at their overreactive plight in ice skating.
Outraged at being tied down by rules, Jack frees himself to
Sculpt snowmen smoking smokeless pipes which
Tempts children to snowball attacks in his blissful wintry eden.
