i long to falter
into the depths
of your soul
feel the contour
of your lips
falling charily
against mine
as i quiver
beneath your
whispers
the tremble
of your stroke
against a bare canvas
as you paint me
pretty
Should I reach for the sky and catch this shooting star,
As she charily sheds her dainty white light?
Should I sail the seas without her treasure map,
And infinitely lose myself in her brown eyes?
Should I grapple her love, reach for the heart in sight,
And touch the beautiful flame of her candlelight?
Should I reach for the sky and catch this special star,
Even though all she might do is burn my fragile heart?

To me she is like a rose,
Endowed with beauty that defies all odds;
To me she is juxtaposed,
Betwixt enchanting beauty and tantalizing soul.
To me she is just a rose,
An immaculate fit in pulchritude’s elite;
To me she stands forlorn,
So mesmerizing, with secrets untold.
To me she is like a rose,
Surrounded by thorns that pierce my heart’s walls;
Eagerly and charily I long,
To know to whom her heart shall truly belong.

We meet on equal playing fields,
we strivers wielding pens,
with timid hopes, exposing thoughts
to harsh or candid critique.
The selfsame words are ours to use
in manner of our choices.
They lay in helpless, inert piles
until maneuvered by our pens.
Just as the paint and brush await
the artists soulful touch
or notes without composer's skill
are only noisy sounds;
just so a simple word can be
an ignored out of fashion thing,
until lifted by the poet's skill
into phrases for the ages.
Some have used proud words in prayer
that others use in curses.
We poets take them charily
and in literature we mold them.
The gifted take a simple word
and recognize its virtue,
They can combine, connect and phrase
as no one has before them.
Dear Reader, take these offered words
and mentally assess them.
The author hopes the unity of thought
will have made them worth writing and reading.
