Cappella Poems

Premium MemberWe Were Never 'I'

Within this sanctum
of breath and bone—
ten trillion anchorites
mimic their devotions.

Bacteria threading
blood’s vermilion rivers
braiding holy water
into the cathedral
of now.

Their alchemy transmutes
starlight
into the wine of existence—
decanted
from Orion’s mythical vine.

Viruses—
those threshold wraiths
between being
and unbeing—
inscribe new verses
in the living gospel
of our chromosomes.

Fungi a cappella
in mycelial tongues
through marrow’s moaning chambers
decomposing resurrection
from each small death
we die.

We are not hosts—
but cantatas
still composing themselves
in light.

Each cell—
a verse rehearsing resurrection.

Hark:
your pulse conducts
this unseen choir
where mortal breath
becomes immortal song.

And in this sacrosanct
communion of kingdoms,
we learn
we were never “I”—

but a constellation of prayers:
timeless,
boundless—

Bacteria
Viruses
Fungi
Me—
becoming
one.

Premium MemberA Capella Erotica

No need for a loud background sound,
my howl will raise you up off the ground.

I can snatch you up with my voice,
you won’t walk away again by choice.

Go spill our interstellar secrets,
share there are absolutely no regrets.

Speak of how my taste is addictive,
dramatize every drop I have to give.

You always say ‘You have Moon skin.
Tell me tales of everywhere you’ve been.’

Fall into my depiction of a far off land,
my words you instinctively understand.

Savor a sip of picante’ exotica.
I’m the backbeat, a cappella erotica.

Premium MemberGoing Out on a Lim: A Whale of a Tale

The humpback whale is a musical fella
With a sonorous voice that's remarkably "mella".
He doesn't need orchestration
To cause a sensation
When he lets loose and belts out a tune a cappella.

Premium MemberOur September in the Rain

       Strolling softly, in September rains,
       beneath a bright, plaid umbrella.
       A tender couple strolled in joyous love,
       he indeed, her dear, sensuous ‘fella.
       Listen now, to the tender raindrops,
       singing such sweet notes, a cappella!

Premium MemberRaindrops

Sunny days of amber
Start daylight summer.
Skyline clear, veils of clouds' scatter.
Sunshine silhouettes placid and plenty
Sustain vivid space for dreaming beauty.
Sparrow sisters spirit chirp,
Scene engaging melody urp.
Semi-aquatic bullfrogs sing a cappella
Sight of festy aerial dragonfly’s gala.
Serendipity cast most timely,
Spontaneous lavish rain sublimely.
Smell of rain swaddles Nature finely.
Scintillating wet spatter collaborative.
Sun shines through raindrops weave,
Seamless hues, stretch of favorite colors mark,
Symbolic eternal life rainbow arc.

Premium MemberPitch Pipe Overture

Sing for me and make it a cappella,
an album of musical afternoons;
By the light of the old candelabra
with a pitch pipe harness exotic tunes;

Your voice a passport to a far off land
no need for any accompaniment;
Colorful suitcase let me hold your hand
I’m smitten by the vocal enchantment;

That accent so deliciously foreign
I want to lick it clean off of your lips;
When can we go to the airport again?
I revel in all of our first class trips;

The moment the last song is in the air
I’ve begun planning our next overture.

Lakeside, the Music Plays On

The lake has its own orchestrated acoustics.
The quaking of oboes and the bassoon-ing honks
of a skein of geese
conduct a loosely scored morning air.

Rustling reeds chime in fluted stems,
a wind section throats through its hollow notes,

and then there is you.

you who hesitantly strum
within each lip-breathing earshot

nevertheless

your strings are tuned high
to the vibrating moment.

All this ‘a cappella’ is inside you now
like a chick cracking though its own eggshell.

You look around your shoulders
searching for the composer
see nothing, only a naught that imagines
paused fingertips above a keyboard.

Will you sing now or depart unfinished?

The ensemble of the assembled
has left.
You can try again
when your inner metronome
is less bolted to its mechanical tongue,

but for a time
harmony nest elsewhere.

Getting connected through rhymes;
Lifted by our collective energy
our outreach exponentially increases;
Beautiful belted voices
a cappella synergy
letting the distance fall
out of the shadows together as one;
Under a pen name making a statement
to the readers;
Rondines, couplets,or senyrus
every letter moves as our souls align;
Alphabet magic
connects us with it’s universal language
helping build bridges around the world.

Under the umbrella
       rainbows glean my love
           I dance with raindrops.
                                            Quote by _Poet

Rainy day, great feeling with my fella
Heavenly rainbow dance upon my heart
Always blooming beneath my umbrella
Rainy day, great feeling with my fella
Romantic sound singing a cappella
Pave moment, a love trail never apart
Rainy day, great feeling with my fella
Heavenly rainbow dance upon my heart

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

I keep a notebook on the nightstand,
pencil at hand – life-rafts for thoughts.
A flock of dream-crows take off all at once,
the clatter of their wings
a whole symphony played in just one moment.

Grandmother would speak in her Highland tongue;
sounds lyrical and melodic. As a child
I just listened not deciphering or even thinking,
absorbing only the sounds of her rhythmic brogue,
her Celtic chimes.

Mozart leaps up from a nocturnal reverie
stumbles around lighting candles,
lays his sleepy forehead on a keyboard
endeavors to recall a certain harmonic
overheard as the trills of Pipistrelle bats.

When my head swings from the pillow
I cannot find the pencil.
Mind mutely watches a cappella words
wander away from their musical roots,
silence falls out of nowhere into nowhere.

Playing the Harp

From strings miserably out-of-tune,
voices compose music, sung a cappella.
Writers join them prepared to oppose injustice
yet harping over the kinks in government.

FRIEND OF MINE

Artie Mac was a hero of mine
Singing songs most all of the time
He would never just say Hello
He'd hit you with a greeting from some Broadway show
Man he could sing everything
That voice divine... he was a friend of mine...

Saw him down town sing a cappella
Send In The Clowns in some downtown cellar
The Ayresome Angel from his distant youth
Nailing those notes with a resolute truth
A Holgate man, no fancy Dan
That voice so fine... he was a friend of mine...

One night he's on the stage with J.T.
I looked away but I knew he'd seen me
Get up Lou he shouts, let's do Out Of Time
You and me we do that real fine
Artie and me, rock harmony
Line for line ... he was a friend of mine...

Dying to Live, note after note
I hear this song, lump in my throat
Gone far too young this magical guy
Drink in my hand, tears in my eye
Thanks for them all, duos recalled
Time after time... he was a friend of mine...

Tribute to Artie McDermott who was a great guy, Boro fan and the best singer I ever shared a stage with.
And there has been quite a few.

Poetry form: Footle -Just a reminder, a footle is a 2 line, 2 syllable trochaiac monometer poem with an integral title suitable for light, witty, pertinent, topical verse. To make it more fun, I also try to have the second line have a similar sound as the first line.

So there! Now you know.
