Clamor of the midway delights our ears
Calliopes from the old merry-go-round,
Shouts of the barkers, games one hears
Clamor of the midway delights our ears,
Squeals of children, roller coaster fears
Combine to make up that special sound,
Calliopes from the old merry-go-round
Clamor of the midway delights our ears.

two roundels
“Mommy, let’s go ride Maxwell, Don’t say no again.”
My son has named ev’ry horse on the carousel.
“We will go soon!”, I promised but I don’t know when.
“Mommy, let’s go ride Maxwell.”
“Lots of people are sick; just how long we can’t tell.
The park is all closed up, no one is allowed in;
and we have to stay in our house for a long spell.”
“H-O-R-S-E” spells Mikey with a big grin.
I play music as he rides rocky horse, Cowbell.
Lifting a sleepy boy, I hear him whisperin'
“Mommy, let’s go ride Maxwell."

With the passage of years, we'll be able to freeze,
to kill the threat of COVID-19 and its fears.
Note Mike will still smile when he hears calliopes
with the passage of years.
Bear in mind, e-lessons we'll learn on new frontiers;
the strengths we'll gain connecting as close families.
How Face-Time helps victims to cope, shedding good tears.
Praising those who man hospitals and groceries;
remembering those who've died all across these spheres.
Thanking God for new medicines and expertise
with the passage of years.

screams of pure joy laughing out loud
jingling beauty bells in carnival crowd
flying reigned horses, rattling on clouds
giggles on saddles, princes play proud.
chariot of happiness, innocence found
anchored childhood, fun loops abound
carefree calliopes , cymbals frolic sound
infinite pleasure, rides a merry go round
ornate ponies race, spiraling in spin
galloping magic dreams, unicorn within
content in tandem, music ends to begin
cheerful together, no one to lose or win.

we left the farm in early morn
mom, pop, pet, sister and me
down winding tree-lined country roads
to find a Ferris wheel fantasy
ruts in the old dirt road we rode
bounced dad’s rusty red jalopy
Fritz, a spotted white shepherd dog
found travel his brand new hobby
fourteen miles from a quiet church
steel towers poked the morning sky
around the bend near trout stream glen
midway marvels caught my eye
noses found the animal barn
with new shorn sheep and gabby goats
pudgy pigs ten brown cows
new moan hay and horsey oats
mother sought sweet kettle corn
father went to where engines roar
mama fed us sausages
dad slipped off to more explore
creaky wooden roller coasters
calliopes and midway clowns
bumper cars and a carousels
cure the ills and fix the frowns
the special prize for all us kids
is not fried chicken on a stick
or stinky plop drop petting zoos
it is, the coolest rides we pick

Art, is worlds of splendor,
Calliopes of sight and sound,
That stimulate our senses,
Expressing life profound.
Art, is visual texture,
Space, shapes, and colored lines,
Its tones and measured values,
Of every imaginable kind.
Art, is Michelangelo,
And his Creation at Sistine,
Kandinsky at the Guggenheim,
Pablo Picasso at fifteen.
Art, is melodic singing,
An opera at the Met,
Or orchestrated performance,
Of audible storytelling silhouettes.
Art, is Sarah Brightman,
With Bocelli accompanied,
The New York Philharmonic,
Woodwind, brass, and tenor strings.
Art, is famous people and places,
Resonating with artistic flair,
Paris, Rome, Broadway, London,
Ginger Rogers, and Fred Astaire.
Art, is how history captures,
A nation’s cultural appeal,
Toward things its people value most,
Their morals, ethics, and ideals.

They are the chariots of mermaids, the undersea calliopes
They grace the waves with their ballet
They are the turquoise flash within the spray
They are the steeds of Poseidon, the dreams of faeries
They are the fantasy Camelot carries
They are the coral's escaping sway
They are the treasure chest's display
They are the jewels of Amphitrite
The diluted rainbow tracks their courses
Through brambles sandy and seaweed fine
The blackness brightens in alabaster forces
With water sprite's gold of ubiquitous mines
Gossamer silkies ride these horses-
The silver of silent hooves shine divine!

Black & white cars
slink slowly beside you
in cool, carnivore evening – jazz
curling sleepily in silence.
Traffic lights nod
As huge gas wings rise
& you fly, suspended
in winking night air.
Brooding drones
& ancient beasts
crawl toward you &
anger rises
till blood-jade moves
you on
and calliopes
of music meld night
& twangy dung country,
rock hard air &
mournful white
blues wrap night,
hip-hopping
to its changes – all
the countless intersections
of sweet, mindless, melodious
eternities.
