Mojito Conjuring
When the bruja in the red dress
sends me out this time,
it is for the taste of
sour oranges and garlic.
Once, when I plied her
with a cigar called Hoyo de Montyerrey,
she coiled the smoke,
said that I was still feral and untamed,
sent me out for sugar so that
I could learn my true name.
Scythe-swinging, field-slave-singing,
I could not return to her coven of one
until I had learned that my “Suarez”
meant that I was the son of sugar itself –
the child of wild ingenious devouring
the rows of cane like a dragon.
Now, red-dress bruja breathes out
clouds of tobacco *****,
turns the cigar round and round,
tells me to gather garlic and aurantium oranges
so that the sour and the sucre may jibe
together in me,
and leave me properly christened
for when it is time for me to work,
time for me to sweat,
time for me to sing.
La wicked bruja hechicera,
with an impious hex--
deep within the marshlands-
'neath a foul--swampy grave,
shall indeed summon
Pumpkin Head.
Rage's what he wheels,
from those who seek revenge;
Restitution for the reckless end
of a love-one, who's been slain.
Her Abyss fiend, ghastly nights
of vengeance spreads.
'Tis best and wiser yet
to kneel in silent prayer.
Repent, for it's the only tool
the hunted have to soothe
the impinging gloom
of dark that looms.
For those he stalks
don't stand a chance;
The Reaper's minion
feeds his thirst
with bloody-blugent preys,
la hechicera dooms.
Sinners atone, confronting
their fate--with a wicker fort
made faith that rots;
For pleas and screams,
like wood ablaze-only excite
his callus, morbid heart.
Condemned souls
who bear the witch's mark.
Hell hound will dissecting hunt.
For the following dawn
are found only severed heads
with bods from limbs apart.
Souvenir
You wanted to come by,
you said only for a minute
You had something to give me,
but hell my day was hectic
I gave in but then,
that was my mistake
I told you not to touch me,
for God and Goddess sake
You said it was my fault,
because I was so pretty
But I was on my guard,
my hate for you was plenty
I was doing my job,
you touched me once again
I could not believe it,
now comes time for a plan
Do you know the word Bruja,
you narcissistic man
You’ve now been cursed,
by a beautiful woman
All told!
Each day, I say,
Socially dormant, I may
Never flagrant, rather
Concealed, in essence
Quite quiescent per se
Until she appeared, as
An alcoholic version of aquapanela
Fragrant she is, isn't she?
La bruja from the sea
Can be. Can be.
The peaks of the summits
To be reached
Alpenglow in her eyes - divine
Will shine!
Oh, will shine,
Down to the coastline,
This girl
As round as a little pearl
Polished and clean
In my eye just a little swirl
Consulting her star
Oh, yeah!
Alone she is in her boudoir
Where I ascent
With her consent,
To touch her lips
Up and down
Could not help but
Place the crown!
“THE FIRST NIGHT”
solitude, you old *****.
you never fail me.
you love me like no other.
tonight I sit out here and
the life inside my broken
heart has given up.
no need for homicide, why
kill what keeps you going?
somewhere out there, she
lives, forgetting everything
I was to her.
the moon is out tonight, no,
I can’t say it is.
that same damn frog from
last night, maybe it knows.
maybe he’s come to accompany
his own heartache with mine.
there are no others.
here in my white t-shirt,
my black shorts.
she’s happy without me and
all she had to do to get it
was turn her back to me.
she’s in her city now just
like before and here I sit
not giving two damns about
the new lollipop that’s going to
penetrate her.
I guess I should thank her.
the years she gave me kept me
out of life.
when she took them away,
when she was weak, she gave
the reality of life back to
me.
bruja.
I light this cigarette in darkness
as I celebrate the hatred I now
carry for her.
here, have a drag.
