Cool as a cucumber, he plopped down
She looked and wondered why, but said, "Hi."
Wishing she had turned her head with a sour frown
The whole time thinking she wished she said bye
She looked and wondered why, but said, "Hi."
He was cool as a cucumber, so it seemed
The whole time thinking she wished she said bye
Deep down in a rut, her thoughts said get up in a scream
He was cool as a cucumber, so it seemed
But he was really paddling like a duck underneath
Deep down in a rut, her thoughts said get up in a scream
If only had she known, it would lead to a bridal wreath
But he was really paddling like a duck underneath
Wishing she had turned her head with a sour frown
If only she had known, this would lead to a bridal wreath
Cool as a cucumber he plopped down

Prick me with your vivid green awareness
Let the white pins that needle me
Diminish into their foggy sham
The bridal wreath that scented our commitment
Now doused in unkept hopes and promises
Moss sprouting venom from hurts battled
Like a fish floating in space with no oxygen
I swam in currents without you
The tank occupied with endless dark clouds
Fraught with fear and loneliness
Love now submerged deep in the recess of my mind
Unclear what is sacred what is trash
I prayed you would see the light
That my white knight would return
This battle is fierce and yours to fight

The speckled licorice skies close the days
As the sun yields to softer lunar rays
Reflections on the frayed linen patch quilt
To capture each thread with a silver gilt
Delicate fingers that crafted each stitch
To hold a precious memory in place
A patchwork of time as our thoughts retrace
Such wealth remembering made living rich
Yet time goes by and the patches must fade
As we slept beneath the starlight parade
The solemn witness to passion beneath
Our love embracing the nights unafraid
From the first kiss to scented bridal wreath
Sweet memories that is a quilt’s bequeath

BRIEF FOREIGN AFFAIRE
Our last date - a garden meal.
Dark hair, moustache, flashing Turkish teeth:
His warmth of welcome made me feel
Sad to leave him there far beneath.
Now, hurtling home, it seems unreal -
We two amid that bridal wreath.
As I soar the Atlantic,
The photos stuck with tears,
My heart is near frantic,
Washing away all earlier fears
At meetings so darkly romantic.
The Michigan lakeshore appears
At last, geometric Chicago -
The foggy layer clears,
Memories seem long ago.
Distant prairie rushes
Towards the wings.
My cheek blushes
And heart sings.
Wheelscreech sound,
Dreams aground.
Home.

Bridal Wreath
Jasmine is the scent of romance
Its fragrance creates A hypnotic trance
Two wrapped around each other move
As one to the heart strings of one another
Twilight falls upon a humid summer night
Caressing lovers in warm vanilla sugars of delight
Jasmine lays them in her arms of scented cotton
Beneath the stars blossoms a night never forgotten
His tender kiss and gentle search for the garden gate
Calls passion through the porthole as desire waits
As the zephyr breeze increases the flower opens beneath
Engulfed in their night covered by their bridal wreath
