Bootleggers Poems

Premium MemberThe Hood

It's an area totally different from the rest
From the language to the people's style of dress
Kids young in age but wise with street smarts
Teens sagging and hanging out at liquor marts
Shoes on power lines showing various drug spots
Girls playing double dutch in empty car lots
Loud music blarring from a car with chrome rims
Men lifting weights in a yard turned into a gym
The smell of marijuana just as loud as cigarettes
Where colors worn communicates you with a set
Run down apartment buildings ran by slum lords
Where complaints are registered but go ignored
Businesses looking horrible due to graffiti
Where you always find bootleggers selling dvds
Everyone you meet goes by a strange nickname
Where the less fortunate ask for spare change
Well known people grew up with this background
So the hood isn't as horrible as it may sound
Its helps people to be grateful and to improvise
To get their education and to become wise
Not continuing the cycle but finding a way out
This describes hood life and what it's all about

Premium Memberprohibition cancelled

eighteenth amendment
national prohibition
thirteen awful years

led by protestants
fearing evil of liquor
handcuffed alcohol

policemen were paid off
bootleggers became wealthy
speakeasies crept up

cancelled years later
by 21st amendment
drinking continues

Premium MemberLives Stripped of Fun

Living on the street
disheveled and beat:
they're labeled abject losers,
unkempt, filthy freaks
without baths for weeks,
street thugs and drug abusers.

From homeless beggars
to teen bootleggers:
caring souls can feel their pain;
and offer up change.
An award exchange:
though their paths won't cross again.

So much damage done
to lives stripped of fun,
now forced to live on the street.
Alone, without friends;
no chance for amends,
exposed to the cold and heat.

Premium MemberSome Like It Hot

I love an old movie called "Some Like It Hot"
Two guys from a jazz band, had witnessed a plot!
Their lives might expire
from gangster's gunfire
They ran like the dickens without getting shot!

They're quick to leave town, while they try to compose...
With tricks of their own, before anyone knows!
With wigs on their heads
and lipsticks of red …….
They're wearing silk undies, and new pantyhose!

They land a new job... (Not a word to the wise!),
while dressed as two chicks, as an artful disguise
But surprise takes a twist
when they cannot resist
a marriage proposal, and a boat full of lies!!

Romance in the "20's" was stranger than not!
Bootleggers and gangster's would stir up the pot
The plot only thickens
The pace of it quickens,
when they find true love on a millionaire's yacht!

Recycle

A sweet marriage turned sour, had to be tossed in the trash
Wooden emotions of affection, anger burned love into ash
Marital memories put in the attic, placed in boxes covered with dust
Two cancerous affairs of the heart metastasize into fidelity distrust
Second mortgage is under water, swamped in bills ... no levee cash
Wedded bootleggers drown sorrows drinking the moonshine mash
A once healthy marriage died yesterday, got buried in divorce
Resurrected maiden name celebrates, in a singles bar of course

Premium MemberI Just Had To Do That Search

Rich white-collar crooks wearing suits,
street walkers, and rowdy old coots,
	bank robbers, dope dealers,
	bootleggers, fake healers--
I found while pursuing my roots!

Of the Innocent and Sinners

The Niagara,
       engulfing, consuming
               virgins and bootleggers
                          alike.
