Best Warheart Poems

Matthew Henson

No rift in the unthawing ice
The sled took dark matter over crystals of snow
Here the water's thin bonds sufficed
And the one who led was the one who should know
There was no glory in the game
For him, a southern heart seeking a northern pole
Of stars when his heart was aflame
For the warm rhythms of drums called him for a role
Beyond the ken of history
Where his firsts are ancient as the Nile, wrapped in night
Filled with stars of antiquity
Old, so old, the magi had never seen their light.

Today we know where ships must seek
Without the theodolite of desert sands
Time replaced the proud with the meek
God guides the world with his great inerrant hands
Now the servant throned in silence
Is unmasked to his regal heritage, and brought
Maryland's son his prominence
Since first Peary's eyes in his wisdom's net was caught
Like a schooner around the globe
This freedman's soul brought home cargoes none knew before
For something in his blood's wide robe
Could not resist those paths ancient Ghana explored

Usa- Man In Uniform

This was unexpected.
You, the man my heart seeks.
How could it be possible that it is true?
Is it happening?
For me and you?
A man in uniform.
I have fallen for.
Stupidly I let myself go.
Where no woman wants to go.
You could die in battle.
Be blown to smithereens.
Take a gunshot to the heart.
And bleed out.
But I can’t stop what is in progression.
They say the heart wants what the heart wants.
But do I want this?
No.
YES.
My brain and heart battle.
Should I choose logic over my heart’s desire?
But how can I stop this fire?
To let romance and passion go denied.
It seems so wrong.
I know he’ll be in the military long.
So how long can I wait?
Is it destiny, maybe fate?
He is a good solider, he won’t break my heart.
But will I break his?
Man In uniform, leaving for the army.
What would you do if I asked you to stay?
But I can’t.
It would be dishonorable.
But the truth is.
I love you.
Man fighting for the red white and blue.

Oh Purple Heart

OH Purple Heart

Oh Purple Heart Upon my breast.
Covering the hole within my chest.

Where heart and love and soul did hide.
My love of country, my family, my bride.

A Survivor's Story

I wake up to a deserted town
"Where are the people?"
I ask myself aloud.
"Gone." answers a voice.
But no one's here...
but me.

Broken glass litters the street,
a Kristallnacht in the making.
Houses, half gone and half standing,
specked the dirt road.

I lay, pinned to the ground by a monstrous wall...
I don't know if I'll be able to move...
but I must try.

"Hello! Anyone there?"
No reply.... just what I thought.
As distress fills my heart,
I use that anger and helpless feeling to my advantage
and somehow
I managed to lift the heavy burden off my chest.
But this was a small victory in what seemed to be WW II.

ALAS! I remember.
This is WW II....
and the US had just dropped something...
something unusual on my town...
I'm surprised I'm still alive.

The explosion was enough to kill all of my native land,
Japan.
But it only stopped 2 miles from the heart of my country,
Tokyo.
But no time for reminiscing.
I must find a way out of this...
hell.

A sharp pain in my chest heaves me to the ground,
I've seen this ground so many times, face to face.
Something starts to lunge itself out of my mouth.
When I look down, I notice
that it is my own blood.

I knew I must find a hospital, quick,
but which way was which?
Was East West? Was West South?
Was North behind me? Was South ahead?

I sulked in defeat as I trudged along a snake-like road...
a road to nowhere.

I grew weary, hungry, tired
but I knew I must walk on.
Every few minutes, I'll drop to my knees
and cough up my life support,
but I couldn't let that stop me.

The sun went down,
but I didn't.
The moon rose,
I kept walking.
The sun started his day-shift,
but I was at work all night,
counting steps and listening my heart beat.

Finally, I lost the will to live,
I wanted to die,
I waited to die...
But death didn't come.

I spit up blood every few seconds now.
Life leaving me with every breath.
I close my eyes, and draw in my last breath.

Muffled sounds reach my ears.....
I try to look but my vision's blurred.
Everything blacks out.

"I will not be defeated"

My vision is back.... I see people...
Everything blacks out.

"I will not be defeated"

I see their faces now, splattered with dirt and dust
Everything blacks out.

"I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED!!!!!"

I CAN SEE!

"Are you with us?!"
A desperate cry reaches my ears.
And I reply,
"Yes. Yes I am."

True Price of War

The mighty warlord shakes his fist and sends his troops to the abyss
Families broken and torn because of an oath that was sworn
Fathers and sons die in vain but no one can feel their pain
Mothers cry as their children are sent off to die
Innocent blood is shed, does no one care for these dead
Sadness grips the heart of man as many a persons blood stains the land
Cries from the public go unheard as the warlord shouts his mighty words
Kill them all he says, make these people pay
The screams of wounded go on through the night begging for the warlord to end the fight
No answer comes from his high up throne for his heart is cold as stone
Only a child dared to face him
He begged for his people
His words so moved the warlord he again shook is fist this time calling his troops from
the abyss
Families are pieced back together after the mighty storm they have weathered
The child is proclaimed a hero
Sides that once wared against each other now call themselves brothers
Fields are resown and homes rebuilt, no longer does the warlord feel guilt
But nothing can replace the loss of life for that is the true price of war

I Hear the Drum Rolls Beating

I Hear the Drum Rolls Beating
By: Christopher S. Cascaden

I hear the drum rolls beating
And of men marching
I am a soldier of the past
My brothers being carried
I hear the lord calling down below

I understand the beating boots
My heart lifts into the sky
I hear the bang of seven saluting shots
And the cries of comrades gone
I lay my hand upon the casket

I feel my heart hit the sky
but be handed back to me
I hear the drum rolls of my lord
     calling down to me
I understand the light given by those
who fought and died for me
I see greatness in their deeds
I feel their boots hit the ground
      once again in heaven.

The Gap

the generations are diverse
as different as can be
generation gaps exist
in every family tree

Grandma had the radio
Hitler and two wars
"sacrifice" and "stay in line"
the first co-ed bars

My Mama saw Vietnam
Woodstock and the moon
television.. birth control
and phones in every room

Now generation x is here
and hero's don't exist
but we have the Internet
and fancy e-mail lists

the millennial's have seen so many things
Katrina and face-book
you scoff - but know our purple hair
invite those second looks

each generation changes things
not always for the best
but heart to heart and hand to hand
we give the gap a rest

Anchors Aweigh

The sea is rough, the sea is tense
Like a forest dark, like a forest dense
Keep all eyes forward, keep all eyes alert
Deny the soul anger, deny the soul hurt

Adjust to the road, adjust to the times
Avoid all temptations, avoid all crimes
Do not change the path, do not change the goals
The heart is a rolling plain, the heart is a grassy knoll

Do not fear day, do not fear night
Life is a journey, life is a fight
Command the ranks, command the fleet
Seal the hatches, seal the heat

It will not be easy, it will not be long
Remain completely confident, remain completely strong
Look afar in the sunset, look afar in the bay
Sing The Star Spangled Banner, sing Anchors Aweigh

The Brave Cherokee Maiden

Her heart yearns for better days
Her love of her land she displays
Tee-pee tall and strong of leather
Just to block unspeakable weather.

She lingers near the cool blue-green pond
She longs for lost lover in the beyond
He a brave fought the wild war
Did not know what was soon in-store.

Days of travel now behind
Trial of tears of no other kind
She sits in woods cool breezes blow
With heart heavy as family go.

I Am...

He gets up in the morning and begins to pack,
Today he'll be gone with no idea of when he will be back.
I sit in bed and watch with tears running down my face,
Dreading the thought of the upcoming lonely days.

Yes, my husband is an American Soldier,
One of the proud with whom has been called on order.
He'll walk out this door with a sense of loyality and duty,
But, his love and heart will be left behind with me.

It maybe days, weeks, even months until we speak again,
Seems like an eternity to go without your best friend.
While gone, he will endure the unknown for his country,
He'll take on the unforseen so that we may remain free.

Yes, my best friend is an American Soldier,
One of the proud with whom has been called on order.
He'll walk out this door with a sense of loyality and duty,
But, his love and heart will be left behind with many.

Kneeling at night our daughter begins to pray,
Wishing daddy home each and every day.
Wiping away the silent tears which fall at night,
She smiles and knows God is keeping him alright.

Yes, my daughters daddy is an American Soldier,
One of the proud with whom has been called on order.
He'll walk out this door with a sense of loyality and duty,
But, his love and heart will be left behind with his baby.

The old man sit's up at night and watches the tv for any news,
Hoping his son isn't one of the many we may loose.
His wife holds onto her Bible with all her strength and faith,
Knowing that without a doubt her baby boy is safe.

Yes, they are the parents of an American Soldier,
One of the proud with whom has been called on order.
He'll walk out this door with a sense of loyality and duty,
But, his love and heart will be left behind with his family.

Looking out for my friend and fellow Soldier,
Roadside bombs are around every corner.
Sound of the enemies guns ringing in my ears,
Thoughts of home and loved ones calming my fears.

Yes, I am an American Soldier,
One of the proud with whom has been called on order.
I'll walk out this door with a sense of loyality and duty,
But, my love and heart will be left behind with my country.

Love

I have a problem I'm addicted
I'm addicted to the strongest drug of all
and I need my fix and I need it now
I need it to last
and no other drug can seem to surpass
I need this fix filled down deep in the pit of me
my shadow you'd say my darkest epitome
so much more than any other part of me
a festering fire that lives in the heart of me
only love can stop what is growing inside of me
but if there's only one true love than how can this be?
so many have searched and found nothing but enemies
so many have ran to the trees and the depth of sea
but me I'll keep fighting I'll find my true entity
no worldly creature could ever strike fear in me
only that feeling that resides down deep you see
such difficult choices anguish? or destiny?..
a seemingly endless journey searching for the rest of me
locked away in a cage in the illusion of ecstasy
I question each day why am I here? what could be meant for me?
If that could be answered we'd truly by blessed for free
but how could they answer the challenge that's meant for the
on going climb from the heart to the brain then our genital mind
the lusting for others which eats up our time
while molesting our minds with adultly divine reasons and rhyme
which usually end in a puddle of crime..

With heart divided between old and new
both loves so dear and warm and true;
'Cross continents covered with morning dew,
so fleet I ran to be with you.

Cloth marked, banner blazoned, dearly tried;
on I ran to be by your side.
Storm gathered, tide washed, a dear heart so true,
still on ran I, till I found you.

To your widespread arms and warm auburn eyes,
your red full lips and limb filled sighs;
Onward I wandered thus dreaming of you,
to touch your hand and kiss your eyes,

Her blason banner so stiff, bright and new,
hung on my right for all to view.
You saw her colors favor by my side.
Your tears welled, coals banked, heart torn pride.

You held a silken scarf in your wee hand,
turquoise token, woven with golden strand.
Your gaze so crestfallen slowly wavers,
Yet, reaching forth I accept your favor.

Placing your keepsake upon my left side,
to be my shield, to be my guide;
silken, soft symbol of my hearts delight,
to the battle I march on that dark night.

And, as the clash of weapons loud,
Immersed the days dawn in horrific sounds,
Of mortal pain, and death's story;
So fervent fought I to return to two.

Blessed by M'Ladies' Glory.

Heart and Soul

I talked with a soldier today
Of battles in distant lands
I saw the strength of mighty men
Surrounding this brave man!

He was made a leader there
brave men followed him on
But I saw the sadness in his eyes
As he spoke of ones now gone.

Such courage filled the stories told
Of commands followed out with power
Never knowing just what was up ahead
Or what they would face each hour.

The love shown for the innocent ones
Caught up in war fought strong
Of little ones carried away from homes
Where their parents were now gone.

My heart is filled with awe today
From the short moments of his words
We know so little of what they saw
Over there in other worlds.

But I walk away a little more secure
Knowing such strength is in control
For the love he showed for this great land
Was in his Heart and Soul.......

War and Peace

those weary eyes looked at me
red, filthy but beautiful to see
between the ground of battle which last
and will go on forever until all breathe their last

covered with blood, sorrow and sweat they were
wondering how much longer this land of mine see them suffer
so many people were killed
and many others fighting their way to join them

it seemed to last forever
never ending it felt
i pass the yesterday smile filled faces which covered in anguish
which didn't help in making my heart peace

the day came and it all ended
no one left to share the win or lose
in the end it seemed in vain
killing their own brothers and fathers but there was nothing to gain

i passed the graves of everyone who cared and didn't too
on it i shed a tear and placed a lily
to every brave heart which lost its soul
for the sake of a friend or their family
