Best Unfulfilled Poems
Loneliness feels like a graveyard, haunted by ghosts,
empty memories, and unfulfilled dreams:
where hearts endure
rejection's pain.
Your tomorrows are fewer than your yesterdays:
you fear you're fated to never know love.
In your youth, you so wanted to be loved:
you cannot convey how it felt to be alone.
You want to love, and to be loved:
is that not everybody's dream?
Paper-thin smiles,
shadow, sad tears.
poets with nothing to live for ~ portray extreme emotional scars
poets without an audience ~ are merely parking lots without cars
poets with a chip on their shoulder ~ think themselves to be superstars
as for poets with a large following ~ i wouldn't know can't reach their bar
By David Kavanagh
4x17
Your eyes beneath the arches of dark brows
were ebony with splashes cinnamon.
One penetrating gaze from you would rouse
a craving that became too strong to shun.
Love unfulfilled, into my dreams you crept,
and your voice, edged with velvet, called to me.
From the fortress tower where I was kept
I’d watch you drawing near. . . my fantasy!
The pathway that you took to me in dreams
was not so filled with thorns as was our fate.
For I would not surrender to your schemes
(though next to you my heart would palpitate!)
You left; I knew you would, and tears like rain
I’ve spilled. . . as in my tower I remain.

The English or Shakepearian Sonnet
(Theme: only unfulfilled love can be romantic)
I came to your hospice,
I came here to die
I came for my family
a final goodbye
I broke that one promise,
I most wanted to keep
Alone on my mountain,
no mourners to weep
The doctors and nurses,
they prod and they poke
Their intentions most noble,
my spirit on dope
In the night, strangers faces
call out my name
And act like they know me
new pawn in the game
If I had that one wish
still left unfulfilled
I would walk to the rim
of the Canyon so still
At dawn I would jump
with both arms open wide
Saying: Thank you Dear Lord
—for a wonderful ride
(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2018)
Wondering if she will give me the chance
To share my primal love with her alone
Adds to fostering feelings of romance
That have infested my form to the bone
But had she not played it so hard to get
And given of herself to me too soon
I think that I would then live to regret
Not laboriously working the swoon
It is an unfulfilled romance that beats
The lustful, swollen heart within my chest
And too easy a prey the game defeats
Preventing carnal love known at its best
So play the game my beautiful dove
The wait continues in boosting my love
Empty promises; that's all your words are.
I care for you, do you even care for me?
I've given so much of myself;
mind, body, and soul, and it seems that
you could care less.
You're all I think about night and day
and you hardly think of me.
I wait for your call or a text.
Sometimes I become so hopeful
that you'll show up at my door,
and yet, it's just another lonely night
that I spend to myself.
Pain and agony bypass my heart
and it cuts deep into my soul,
and you wonder why and think,
"just let it go".
I wonder if there is someone else,
and wonder what they have that I don't.
I try, try, try, and try too many times,
curing the ground that you walk on,
then apologizing unnecessarily.
Why should I apologize?
You've put me on an emotional roller
coaster ride; happiness, sadness, and
anger rush through me like a tidal wave.
Happy when I see you, sad when I cannot,
and angry when you don't even care to try.
I care more about you than I do myself.
My feelings go ignored because I love.
I love someone who doesn't love me back.
Unfulfilled Dreams !!!
Still dreaming, after all these years, impossible dreams.
To become a reality that is never meant, it surly seems,
to rise up – like the Phoenix – from the ashes.
A reality, that with my dreams, always clashes.
To let go, to forget, for sanity, this I must,
for the dreams, a reality ?, they are turning to dust.
The obvious has always been there, before me
With all my hopes, blind love, I would not see.
It has been far to long, carrying this heavy load
It is time to move on, travel a less bumpy road.
Oh, to travel, take journeys, find a new adventure.
If age, experience, heartache did not keep one unsure
of ever climbing above all that had gone wrong
and finding a voice, to sing a glorious song.
Oh, to once again know and feel the ecstasy of love.
To know that one could leave behind and climb above .

Unfulfilled dream
A dream
Running
Screaming
Hiding
Crying
I know that life doesn’t end just because of it,
But it’s like nothing matters anymore.
I just feel empty.
Everything I have always wanted is most likely gone now.
Risked it all, tho I didn't come out on top
A dream
Running
Screaming
Hiding
Crying
A dream
She doesn't want to know
No.
A dream
She has lost forever
A dream of changing
Let go?
But all left unheard and unseen.
A dream
Running
Screaming
Hiding
Crying
The darkness staring at her,
The emptiness killing her.
How truly heartbreaking is it?
Tear filled eyes and empty bottles,
I’m moving around them, but they stand still.
A dream,
A dream that never came true.
A dream Running
Screaming
Hiding
Crying
Dying.

a decayed
unfulfilled dream
of mine
an antique coin
that has oxidized
on both sides
coated
brown and green
as if
dry gangrene
has set in
on a dead tissue
no longer flickering
light
when kissed by the sun

It seems that only yesterday we were planning your future and promises to be fulfilled in years to come...we started with a baby shower and gifts from everyone. We dreamed of a first birthday, a dream of your first graduation and first dance. A mother and fathers hopes of things yet to come. Now, here we are standing before God, asking him why has he taking our future of a child we had yet gotten to know, yet whom we had already loved. He, answered us with a fathers words of love..."They whom you have loved, yet have never known is never gone, a promise you long to fulfill is always yours to have...as long as you trust in me and know that I have never placed more upon you than your hearts can stand, know that I'm a God of purpose and planning...and all that which I promised will be delivered unto you if you just trust and believe in your hearts and know that my love for you, was formed before you were even placed in the womb. Nothing leaves or enters this world without my permission, sometimes with great anguish, but nothing leaves or enters without a purpose." Keep planning for the future with an unbending love!
Whispered dreams on gentle breezes
… taken by a wild and wayward wind
Songs of yen ‘neath shade of branches
…engulfed by tears of weeping willow
wishes made on sea’s white horses
…washed away amid the rolling waves

I believed in fairy tales
And happiness ever after;
That when I found my prince, we’d live
In endless love and laughter.
But through no fault of yours, my love,
Our idyll soon was ended.
Ever and ever, our fond dream,
Was not what God intended.
If genies granted wishes
And fairy tales came true,
I’d wish I could be taken back
To those sweet years with you,
When the future was still ours to live
And every day was savored.
I’d have no need to envy those
Who’ve been more highly favored.
Those walking hand in hand to meet
Their golden sunset years;
Who’d never known this loneliness
Nor shed the anguished tears.
But fairy tales don’t happen and
Time always moves ahead
And only in my dreams I live
The life I might have led.
Won a no. 10
Desires unfulfilled
affection gone astray
needs ignored and
imagination plays
in bed alone
emotions groan
mind begins to roam
LOVE
soon leaves home

I believed the Cinderella tale,
And in happiness ever after,
That when I found my prince, we'd live
In endless love and laughter.
But through no fault of yours, my love,
Our idyll soon was ended.
Ever and ever, our fond dream,
Was not what God intended.
If genies still granted wishes
And the fairy tales came true,
I'd wish I could be taken back
To those days of just we two.
The future was still ours to live
And every day was savored.
I had no need to envy those
Who've been more highly favored.
They're walking hand in hand to meet
Their golden sunset years
And have not known the loneliness,
Haven't shed the anguished tears.
Our fairy tale didn't happen
And time has moved on ahead.
It's only in my dreams I live
The charmed life I could have led.

How I look back with regret
At that summer long ago
A sultry sensual summer
A time of sexual awakening
When I was on the threshold,
The blossoming of womanhood
And how I curse the time
I wasted on you
All those hours in your room
Listening to your music,
Your creative juices at work
Your incessant toe tapping
And finger clicking
To your tuneless efforts
Played on the out of tune guitar
That accompanied your juvenile
Angst ridden ramblings
“The music of your soul”
Was what you called it
God you were pretentious
Even for a teenager it was extreme
You were self obsessed,
Self regarding, self centred
Self absorbed, self deluded
Egocentric and narcissistic
In fact if the word
“Narcissism” hadn’t existed
They would have had to
Invent it just for you
If only you had realised
I wanted to make music with you
Raw unscripted passionate music
An ardent duet,
Fervently reprised
I had creative juices
I had creative juices to spare
I had a song of teenage want
About a frustrated nymphet
In lust with a pretentious musician
Who would rather finger his fret!!
Well I had urges
And I was left unsatisfied
By your excruciating folk
And your mournful dirges,
You called me your muse
Like I should be flattered
I didn’t want to be your muse
I wanted to be your groupie
I panted at you in desire
I dressed provocatively
I hinted at my lusty inclinations
I suggested you play my body
Like an instrument
But the sexual connotation,
Like everything else, was lost on you
And I remained unsullied
That sultry sensual summer long ago
