Best Unconditional Poems
Like the sun lights up the sky,
A little girl when she was born,
She snuggled right into our hearts
With heaven's sparkle in
Her eyes stole her papa's heart.
He became her nanny and cradled
Her to sleep, there was no bed
Comfortable enough,
but only in his loving arms
Until it was time for him to leave.
He was "mama" until she was two.
He would try to correct her;
"No, Papa."
She'd say, Mama with a smile.
He nourished her little mind with
Nursery rhymes and songs.
He taught her Math, English, and Spelling.
Taught her to ride her first tricycle,
To hold a baseball bat
And keep her eyes on the ball.
To kick and pass a soccer ball back and forth,
He cheered the loudest when she outran the boys.
Love between both of them unconditional.
She's now thirteen, with a smile that beams like sunshine
And eyes like stardust glistening, our greatest joys;
A garden scent where mums and sunflowers flow.
Having outgrew grandpa, it was grandmas turn;
Grandpa encouraged.
Her extra sunshine, giggles, laughter, and happiness
That come from deep inside when we shop
For party dresses, make-up, and
Once in a while a bookstore.
A photo-shoot on a footbridge or garden,
Lunches at Olive Garden or Gringo's for Mexican food,
And ice cold-fruity slushy drinks before going home.
She would text and still does to say,
You and grandpa or the best grandparents ever.
This little girl that that lights up the sky rules our hearts.

Feeling hurt owing to belied expectation
The earth entity floundered hither and thither
Spiralling gloom causing consciousness contraction
The wound cut deep since he relied upon his transgressor
Pain amplified by cyclic thoughts plunged him into despair
For healing he visited a reputed clinical psychologist
Listening patiently seated on a swivelling chair
Of no avail were therapists or hypnotists
Finding no way he asked this question
Who feels the pain and why is relief not simple
This line of inquiry brought him to a clear recognition
Cause of suffering delusion dwelling in images ephemeral
Reflecting deeper if an animal is ensouled in human form
It goes without saying that it’s actions will be feral
We expect not from a carnivore embrace warm
Thus our cognition should be spherical
Meditating thus in silence and stillness
He knew each being acts as of his evolution
With all our flaws we too seek divine connectedness
Yet hastily condemn others by our jaundiced eye perception
The afflicted soul then rose in the light of clear understanding
Looking at the other with kindness and compassion
His own orientation thus prayerfully correcting
In quietude of transcendental meditation

No need to pretend
She had seen me at my best
and my very worst
"So what?" She would say
"Don't you know that I love you?"
and then she would smile
I want to purify
my love for you,
cleanse it
of all expectations,
of all desires,
of all that is about me,
until it runs clear
like spring water
that I pour for you
when you are thirsty,
without asking
anything in return,
and you can
accept it from me
without second thoughts,
as you do not question
the spring that flows
in unconditional abundance.
From my new collection The Eden of Perhaps (Spartan Press, 2020)
When did you enter into my life?
Was it when the crying baby in the cradle received a warm hug from her mother?
or was it when the children cheerfully ran home after the school's long bell?
When did you start sharing your creamy thoughts with me?
Was it when the baby nightingale gifted its first tune to the world?
or was it when the cutie caterpillar emerged out of its white house?
When did you take my hand into yours?
Was it when the sun secretly promised to enhance the glory of the earth with its light and warmth?
or was it when the green leaf slipped off its blanket early to get the food ready for its family?
When is that you spoke the words of love to me?
Was it when the love birds passionately kissed under the romantic twilight?
Or was it when the air smoothly carried the anther's pollen to the bed of stigma?
When did you even dare to steal my sorrow bag?
Was it when the mighty mangroves tried to stop the high rising oceanic tides?
Or was it when the fiery tigress generously caressed the lost bear cub?
When did you first kiss my forehead?
Was it when the proud mother rafted through the waters of her daughter's success?
Or was it when the nation proudly turned the pages of its history book?
When did you decide upon being my life mate?
Was it when the word "responsibility" stepped into the world of letters?
or was it when Adam took the onus of Eve in the garden of Eden?
I really don't want to be immersed in ferreting for answers to all these questions.
All I want is to live and be lost in every moment of this togetherness.
Her love was amazing—it encompassed all;
Unconditional—never filled with condemnation,
Despite my predilection toward unmitigated gall,
And unrelenting juvenile reverence for flirtation.
The years did lapse, all consternation lost;
All apathy, on my part, long since tossed,
Replaced by unearthliness, for life’s remaining duration.

Soft and soothing, sometimes silent
When hurts come to visit, there
Beneath the struggles, he calms and heals
Reminds the spirit that, despite
The darkness, light is coming, hope
Remains, a constant friend to the one
Who listens to the tender touch
Feels the cold nose and smooth fur,
Erasing the doubt, the dread, the doom
Reassuring the spirit that there is room
For this inspiring light, lifting as the sun
Inspiring the joy inside the one who knows
This is love, beyond speaking of –
Love like the music of his bouncing
Vigorously springing to life…
When I’m home from a day when he
Is out of reach, here at home
Where he remains, waiting, anticipating
The arrival of his master, his king…
The one, who to him, has angel’s wings
Gentle as the lamb and warm as the welcome
He gives to his owner, his joy, his happiness
The one he runs to meet, excited like he’s seeing
Royalty, a star – the most important one of them all…
He runs to meet me like he can’t believe
I’m finally here, finally near, where he can see
That I’m willing to stroke his ears, whispering sweetness
Through his dreams, his tender dreams…
Like the doting love that he bestows on me,
There is a great joy in knowing he sees in me
Things I could never see… a angel,
A leader, a friend that will forever be…
His world, his light, his day after night
For him, there is no doubt – there is a love
That falls all around, silencing the dark
Sparking hope and thoughts
So amazing, like his praising look into my eyes…
Where I see that he believes he’s found
Love far more beautiful than any love around
In me, I believe – he sees a reason to be…
The reflection of a heart who knows
Only love given without any conditions
Is love that is worthy of his enthusiastic licking,
His tail’s brisk wiggling – his gift of twitching
When his heart’s greatest wish has finally come true
Because his true love has finally arrived
Home, home – home – where he has survived
Another long stretch without the delight of his life!

parents release
tiresome grip
let go
kisses fly forth
in giggles
from lips
wings of angels
strung around
my neck
pearlescent glow
twinkling eyes
of grands
synergetic
euphoric
sweet love

Liquescent sunset fades away,
From the calm ocean horizon;
Slow ease, moving,
Mingling hues of scarlet,
Coral mood of twilight.
Immerse in the serene ocean music,
Waves begin to creep within reach;
Graceful pull, backs away,
To its labyrinth fathoms depth.
The air, I inhale deep,
Lost in briny cool breeze.
My passionate heartbeat
Consumes in its quintessence
Of the unfeigned world,
My simple lullaby.
Seagulls sailing by
Settling down for the night.
Alone, just my beloved and me,
Sit on a blanket, spread out
Over the grain of sand, nuzzling close.
A picnic, under the nascent twilight heaven.
Candles flicker blue-red flames,
Stimulating sparks, from the gentle stroke
Rolling off the ocean breeze.
A basket of fresh fruits, aged cheese,
Two crystal glasses
Filled with champagne as love beckons.
A fleeting glance into colorfulness night;
For our ardent passion flowers
Our unconditional surrender.

For so many years you been there for me
A souls connection which allowed me to just be
You understood me from beginning to end
You were one in a life time, my best friend
We have shared so many moments together during your earthly life
The pain of loss is cutting like a sharp knife
I find myself sometimes staring at where you would be
Waiting to share your unconditional love with me
Your great presence somewhere around playing hide-and-seek
A comforting spirit allowing me to peak
I miss your gentle soul in my presence
You helped me keep 'sane' in times I felt resistance
I knew i had borrowed time with you
I tried to embrace every second of my life with you too
I'm left now with only memories of us
Feels like my soul's on a hop-on-hop-off bus
In search of you to fill the emptiness you left in my heart
We were soulmates from the start
When the sky becomes dark
and star so bright
I think of you knowing I'm in your sight
With your support, understanding and unconditional love shining as the star's light
I'll forever hold you close to my heart,
Squeezing you tight.
With Valentines Day tomorrow we are celebrating love
light a candle and set our love free like a white dove
Celebrating what we had fitting like a perfect glove
Forever soulmates with unconditional love
"You are the sun in my day, the wind in my sky,
the waves in my ocean, and the beat of my heart. "

There are many different kinds of love in life,
its a force of nature out of our control;
and we all know that sometimes it cuts like a knife,
beautiful, magical it fills up our soul.
When I met my true love I fell into his eyes,
and love hit us like lightning and there was a bond;
it can never be turned off and it never dies,
bigger than the wind, rain, the stars, moon and beyond.
The love of family is deep and forever,
my mother and father were my anchor and rock;
the love for my siblings I can never sever,
grandma, grandpa I miss with each tick of the clock.
And love of a pet is the cruelest love of all,
their time on earth is short but their love has no end;
pets teach unconditional love and the downfall,
of this love is for the grief that will never mend.

I don’t care if you’re young or even if you’re old.
Just love me.
I don’t care if you’re humble or even if you’re bold.
Just love me.
I don’t care if you’re quiet or even if you’re loud.
Just love me.
I don’t care if you’re disappointed or even proud.
Just love me.
I don’t care if you’re short or even if you’re tall.
Just love me.
I don’t care if you can stand or even if you fall.
Just love me.
You see, this type of love I have
I give to you each day.
What I think I have from you,
please don’t ever take away.
You walk with me and talk to me
and caress my loving face.
You’ve given me a home
in a safe, warm, loving place.
So, thank you, my dear loved one
for all you do for me.
You’ll always get my love
and this you’ll always see.
I’m proud to be the receiver
of your attention every day.
And, love forever more
will always come your way.
So, even when you think
that your life is in a fog.
Don’t ever fail to realize
I’ll always be your dog.

Our friendship has always been my North Star
The guide to everything out there
And when we lost touch
I lost my compass
I sealed the wound with fire
And trudged on with desire
Trying to recreate what we had
The effortless close bond, over time becoming sad
People did not meet me half way
They did not grasp the world the same way
And so a small boat adrift I was
Alone bereft for me
And that became my norm
And a new me for a time was born
I did not want to be close
Relationships made me morose
Pleasure was all I sought
To dampen grief and doubt
And that way I existed
For a long time just sort of delisted
Artimus born
Few wants, no needs
Completely free and no nervous energy
It’s calm to withdraw
To view life as a brawl that you no longer engage
And then I hit tastes of want
And it became need
And I tried again
And did not succeed
So I settled and I slept
Most of me to myself I kept
And then once again you were here
And well with joy I could interact without fear
And so I started again to create
And life is not over, it’s not to late
And here we are
And here we are to my North Star - Artimus (C) Susan Manley 8/21/23 for Alan
On Friendship
To silently support and hold your belief
To hold you up when you are consumed by grief
To embrace you for all of your idiosyncratic forms
To exist with you beyond the societal norms
To be born of love and kindness and grace
To know every line on your beautiful face
To walk beside you over the passage of time
To defend you with valour against any crime
To believe in your tears as much as your smiles
To conceive all of your fears and uniqueness of styles
To hold your position when you’re too weak to stand
To live with you through the poverty and the grand
To scale the heights of your profound achievements
To stand up for what’s right in the aftermath of bereavement
To go into battle for the honor of your name
To embrace you unconditionally through the anonymity and fame
To understand your intrinsic emotional complexities
To encourage you on your craft, work and dexterity
To elevate you beyond your best version of your self
To come and save you when you’re in poor health
To allow you the freedom to express your true soul
To endure the shared process of what it means to grow old
To support you on whatever opinion you take on
To not transparently agree with you, especially when you’re wrong
To hold you accountable for what’s true and what’s right
To accompany you through the dark lonely night
To give you the comfort you need in a storm
To listen to your advice when you advise me and warn
To grant your perspective credence and intellectual weight
To have your back in a fierce debate
To give you insight when you’re faced with troubles
To always tell you the truth even if it bursts your bubble
To give our friendship the space to become a sacred bond
To help you find justice when you feel you have been wronged
To encourage your depth and your true voice to flow
To allow you to exceed beyond what you already know
To inspire your courage to bravely stand tall
To rewire your progress and retrieve you from the fall
To give you the unconditional comfort of a true friend
Who will remain by your side until our time on earth comes to an end
The End
