Unconditional Love Conditions
In times of a virus spreading its unruly truths I wonder why What matters most seems to be toilet paper Loops and loops of the stuff and people care about their bum Three ply of course because thin is not for survival of the fittest Metaphors for when crap is hitting the fan swirling those loo roles But ingenious craft with innermost carton keeps kids quite busy For they can build castles in the air on isolation scissors and crayon Biblical towers reach glass ceilings while the reaper levels the field Loving constructions harvested from the apocalypse For the post-modern adult Lego can be deconstructed ad infinitum While God finally died as Nietzsche laughs in cahoots with void’s doom Some create a pleasure dome of hedonistic proportion for a while Before they get bored of sensual joy and run out of novel positions ‘Read the word of the saviour’ but all that begetting and cohabitation Is a bit short of pictures illustrating what should be Kamasutra in heaven And yet Sigmund Freud won’t fall asleep on the couch Hope dies last they say and native Hopi Americans know about isolation In camps and reservoirs where they dabble with glass marbles and booze Bestowed on them by domination and left on the margins of evil greed ‘Take a breath of the new dawn and make it part of you’ they whispered So the Empire strikes back and breathes retribution and respiratory reprisal When the last tree has been felled we will realize that we cannot eat money Will the stock market recover and what about Amazon gold Karl Marx planned this crisis for the proletariat of all nations to unite under A banner of justice and egalitarian ploughshares and indiscriminate contagion ‘Who will wipe my tears and my behind in ripe age when pawns will be rare’ When borders are closed and Asian nurses are sent home for fear of the bug Bespoken spokes will be turning yet we cannot square circles nor wheelchairs As spittle and dribble oozes from mouths and surrender hits home and beyond It is time for indigenous communities not to outsource good care Epic clocks are ticking not unlike prophet Salvador Dali’s surreal depiction of time Munch’s scream is pervasive and the new Guernica stems from spluttering snot Love means not looking away when the old lady next door needs some shopping Unconditional bread and some holy water delivered with kindness' compassion Care and share as you wish to receive when reckless individuality makes lonely In a realm of desperation gifts are not alms but reminders of neglected humanity So one must chose between brutal self-righteousness and ethical virtues To see sense in seemingly senseless and make meaning when emotions prevail Knowledge with action is not a communist myth but also a call for pure reason Sartre rightly pointed out that existence comes before essence and sandalwood Squirts from Buddhas’ nostril like a scent of one fig tree and fruit for the meek While morgues and hell fire overflow and the Ganges waits for vultures to pick Touch your fellow’s heart even when hands are gloved in despair 25th March 2020
