Soft and soothing, sometimes silent When hurts come to visit, there Beneath the struggles, he calms and heals Reminds the spirit that, despite The darkness, light is coming, hope Remains, a constant friend to the one Who listens to the tender touch Feels the cold nose and smooth fur, Erasing the doubt, the dread, the doom Reassuring the spirit that there is room For this inspiring light, lifting as the sun Inspiring the joy inside the one who knows This is love, beyond speaking of – Love like the music of his bouncing Vigorously springing to life… When I’m home from a day when he Is out of reach, here at home Where he remains, waiting, anticipating The arrival of his master, his king… The one, who to him, has angel’s wings Gentle as the lamb and warm as the welcome He gives to his owner, his joy, his happiness The one he runs to meet, excited like he’s seeing Royalty, a star – the most important one of them all… He runs to meet me like he can’t believe I’m finally here, finally near, where he can see That I’m willing to stroke his ears, whispering sweetness Through his dreams, his tender dreams… Like the doting love that he bestows on me, There is a great joy in knowing he sees in me Things I could never see… a angel, A leader, a friend that will forever be… His world, his light, his day after night For him, there is no doubt – there is a love That falls all around, silencing the dark Sparking hope and thoughts So amazing, like his praising look into my eyes… Where I see that he believes he’s found Love far more beautiful than any love around In me, I believe – he sees a reason to be… The reflection of a heart who knows Only love given without any conditions Is love that is worthy of his enthusiastic licking, His tail’s brisk wiggling – his gift of twitching When his heart’s greatest wish has finally come true Because his true love has finally arrived Home, home – home – where he has survived Another long stretch without the delight of his life! Our dogs do know us, all about us and love us anyway. If they could talk, whoa!! Thanks for sharing this winner. Congratulations. Sara

Beautiful poem. Dogs are always beloved. Pity, like us, we all have to die.
