Best Swollen Poems
skeptical swollen soles
tracing dark toes
on vying veins
of tactic trains:
lofty lousy limbs
etched in ink
drastic dances dripping
on seeps scrunching
in jumpy jolly
mystic melody birthed
embroidered with will
virtuoso concerto crunching
sumptuous soles stretching
la-de-da limbs lurching.

Sonnet
She looked at the mirror
She took in her swollen eyes
Puffy from last night's tears
Swollen eyes
Reflecting her swollen heart
Swollen from too much scar tissue
Swollen from the surge of emotions
That had expanded its walls to near breaking
She listlessly dabbed at her eyes with some water
Eyes that had been called beautiful
Captivating
Bewitching
Enticing
Alluring
Now….an awful mess
She looked at her face
Sighing
She crawled back to her bed
To nurse her pain
To regain hours
Stolen away
From last night’s sleep
And somewhere there
In her swollen heart
A little fissure appeared
Imperceptible to her
And the overflow of emotions
The overflow of blood
Found release
Drop by drop
Bit by bit
A growing trickle
While she slept
While she wept
Her life drained away
While she cursed the day
She was born
Not realizing
That she would not live to see another morn
Her little heart would rest
Her little eyes would close
Swollen eyes
Swollen heart
No more....
Her beauty restored
In a land where
Betrayal would be no more

Time, night, and sleep, I could not tell,
For down on the bathroom tiles, I fell
I hit my head but not so bad,
My hand, my muse screeched “are you mad,
What have you done”, confused, in pain
I looked, down at our hand, a monster
Glared at me, broken, swollen, angry and red,
“Wake up first don’t sleepwalk from bed,”
Hubby rushed for he heard me scream,
Called our son for this needed two, a family team
Dressed and wrapped me up, my hand, cried,
“Careful ouch" my muse sadly said,
"Its three degrees outside, a cold winter night”
I was in shock do not remember all, I got a fright,
Carefully I was bundled in the car and taken
To our nearest Emergency Department.
X -Ray’s on the double, diagnosis broken wrist.
My muse was still muttering, did you say something,
Asked the doc about pain,
There will be an injection soon,
No, I hastily replied, I merely said it looks like rain.
I had an injection on my bum,
The following morning an injection to succumb,
To the anesthetic at 7.30 am.
The photo hubby took of me shows I have no pain,
In my snazzy theater gown, which are always so plain.
10 days later stitches out, my baby elephant tattoo,
I noticed surprisingly was joined up like a puzzle by,
The greatest Orthopedic Surgeon I have ever,
known, heard of, or seen.
I am typing with my broken wrist, have a guard I wear.
Oh I’m “sorry, so sorry” said a little voice,
“I’m your, Muse we're one, I know,
You have the same pain as I,
Do you believe me as I look into your eye”
We both got a shock,
Walk mindfully is my motto,
Hey, I ditto,
You on that,
I’ll warn you and you warn me,
And together from danger we’ll
Always be free.

Luke’s lips are swollen
He doesn’t look that great
It must be an allergic reaction
To something that he ate
Luke’s lips are swollen
It’s pretty hard to ignore
It can’t be the nuts he scoffed down
As he has had loads of them before
Luke’s lips are swollen
Big lips on him just don’t suit
Though some people with a warped sense of humour
May think that it looks rather cute
Luke’s lips are swollen
From what we may never know
But now it is time for his medicine
So to the doctors poor Luke must go
Luke’s lips are swollen
Looking like two massive red pearls
But the doctor had it figured out
He’d been kissing too many girls.

A heart swells,
oozing with love,
having fulfilled, re-fulfilled
and over-fulfilled obligation.
But the mind now weakens
from the weight of this swollen heart
and the pressure must be released
before it explodes.
As they engage in battle;
mind versus heart,
one resists the power of love,
the other embraces balance
and they become an intertwined braid of strength;
a natural phenomenon,
the one of harmony.

I've seen a picture of a book
caught in a flood from the past
and marveled at what the view
revealed to me, the reader
The book, arced and curved to
its center, like a ship's bow
darkened with abandonment, and
white crystals grown from pages' edge
Words crystalized from every
line written, touchable thoughts
crystallization of the author's soul
the original, unreadable, unknown
The wish to witness at pad and pen
as soul pours ink to paper page
tonguing salty thoughts may be what
imprinted from the writer to me

The sting of a wasp
Smacked me hard on the eyelid
Can't get rid of itch
Swollen, scrape is so awful
Wasp drove me nuts; I can't blink

My big mouth
earned me a black eye
When I got into a foolish fight,
in the school cafeteria,
over a disputed last piece of pie
Came home and tried to hide
behind dark sunglasses
To my parents, I uncharacteristically lied
Such is the fate I suffer now,
puffed up with swollen pride

Swollen by your love and affection you said you loved me well, I guess you showed your love everyday cause everyday I would swell
It hurts inside to see the man that I once knew for taste, but every morning when I get up I see a beaten face
My friends and family ask me "why don't you pack and leave, when all he does is hit you and make your nose bleed?"
I hang my head and shrug my shoulders because I don't know why, the doctors ask several times and everytime I lie
He tells me he'll get better, he tells me that he'll stop but two weeks after he said that he hit me with a rock
And when he's done he wants to come and make "sweet love" to me, then we get done I look in his eyes and see hate and envy
I'm moving on I tell myself I gotta get out of this, it's like he's on a killing spree and I'm next on his hitlist
A month later I get the courage to finally up and leave, but when I come home my lights are out and my kids nowhere to be
I scream and yell "Where are you two, we leaving here today, I walk in the room and there they were their bodies were slayed
I couldn't breathe I couldn't scream all I could do was pause, and then I felt something in my back that felt like big bear claws
I turned around and there he was with blood all over his hands, before I could even ask him why my eyes closed like strands
I guess the moral of this is I stayed swollen until the end, if you know someone in this situation please help out and be a friend

Spear Well Used and Swollen
So green the grass on hidden hill
open vista views another thrill
Naked the splendor shone then rose
swift the shock when love chose
Romance set the fair morning scene
she a tramp yet once was a queen
Her knight in love with a saint
she felt his spear, grew so faint
A romp in grass so wet and green
eyes shut her nakedness unseen
Taste of his skin from armor freed
joyous placement of heavenly seed
Fair lady's heart yet to be stolen
Knight's spear well used and swollen
R. Lindley, 1979
note:
A bawdy little write from back in 1979.
Not signed so I haven't a clue if it is
a finished or unfinished piece. I keep finding old stuff I wrote
back in late 70's in this large box of old records.
This one was written on a small note pad along with first three
lines starting another poem on the subject --black crows.
