Best Shoulder Poems
Let me not say hurtful things,
Or shameful actions do.
Let my words not sow deceit,
And thus bring shame to You.
Let my words bring only peace,
And my actions too;
That I may walk with head held high,
And only friends accrue;
For there are those who look for faults,
And point out others sin.
Let me build up my fellows Lord,
And not be one of them.
Cleanse my heart and cleanse my mind.
Let me not cause doubt.
Keep Your right hand on my shoulder Lord,
And Your left hand over my mouth.

I went to the dance, all alone and shy
I sat in the corner, I have no idea why
They all seemed to be laughing and high
Dancing and having good times
As I sat in the corner, singing like a mime
I saw her over by the exit door
Tears in her eyes, sadness for sure
I saw in her heart
The loneliness that was mine
I understood at once, this was my time
To be a gentleman and do what’s right
So I took her slowly into my arms
I said so softly
Put your head on my shoulders
I held her in silence
As she drained all her tears
Then the song ended and I let her go
She smiles so sweetly and said thank-you dear Joe
Leaving me here, to dance alone
I have to confess it felt very nice
To consol a sweet gal
Even she left me with no vice
Giving it seems, is its own reward
Even for the lonely, my happiness restored
Bonus Stanza 1
Thirty years later, as I arrive home
I kiss my love on her enticing lips
Her blonde hair waves with her lovely hips
I love her still, like long ago
When I said so softly
Put your head on my shoulder
Bonus Stanza 2
A place to cry
Put your head on my shoulder
It doesn’t matter why
Only angels need to know
That you are special
This is simply so
Notes
This idea came to me reading one of Dave Woods poems, listening to Paul Anka and a poem called “A place to cry” by Kathryn Ramirez. Three completely unrelated events into one poem. The BlueRay version has more Bonus Stanza’s and is available for the low price of 99.99 per copy, Oh and also this is just a poem, there is no love for this dark poet

Oh the images we freeze in time
the sweet, sweet scents that bring recall
the sharp and painful longing that belongings bring
for those lost or lingering on sheets of lavender
on shelves of shaving mugs - Old Spice
soap roped in shower stalls.
Oh the images warmed and torn, sun burnt to brown
upon what's left of glossy crenulated sheets
showing frozen plumped out peeks of
blistering love, gape toothed girls
and sour apple dreams.
We freeze in time on scrapes and shards
on compasses far from the woodlands scene
the tobacco scent of Papa, his yellowed fingers
as they touched my dimpled chin,
blue eyes behind wire rims.
The sweet, sweet scents that bring recall
White Shoulder's between her wholesome breasts
Mother's satin, Chantilly drenched negligee
and father's black onyx ring
ah, I still have him.
The sharp and painful longing that belongings bring
guilty pleasures hidden from the public's tut-tuting eyes
hoarded in ornate boxes, or pressed between stout boards
relentless, heartless is the passing
passing into the frayed, worn fringes
of our dollop of mirrored time.
For those lost or lingering on sheets of lavender
with drawers of balsam pillows to recall the olden days
bring forth the buds which bloom on taffy and apple pie
do not forget the taste of the love
the cotton candy kisses
their first chocolate cone.
On shelves of shaving mugs - Old Spice
soap roped in shower stalls, no sense comes
without its call to memory. Oh you do not sit alone,
play all the old tunes from radio days
and invite your loved ones
to come home.
This is my form it is called Etcetera.

I know some may
prefer the way
of folks direct, up front
Some love panache
forthright and brash,
outspoken as you want
Some may prefer
the crash and blur
of histrionics bolder
But as for me
I'd rather be
tapped gently on the shoulder

The chip on my shoulder, was the missing piece of the cross ---
Jesus took it off on that day, I accepted Him as my Holy Boss ---
People often told me that someday someone would knock it off ---
All I would do is smile, when they lectured me with their scoff ---
The Lord was waiting for that joyous and special day ---
When I accepted for my salvation the life, the truth and the way ---
I felt a heavy burden of sin being lifted from my troubled soul ---
On that day, when that chip of wood made the cross complete and whole.

Dramatic Verse
cry on my shoulder
cry a river of tears
let me walk with you in the dark
let me concur your fears
you say your fine
you say leave me alone
im coming to rescue you
you tend to be accident prone
when your drunk
when your high
let me save you from yourself
...just cry
i hold your tears in my heart
as my soul fills with pain
at least i won the battle
and the beast was slain
cry on my shoulder
cry a river of tears
let me walk you through the dark
let me concur your fears
just cry

Looking over my northern shoulder
at the changing shades of day
a weak winter sun turning twilight grey
teardrops of rain on the window
the gentle sigh of the wind
storm clouds in the evening sky
bring it all back again
poring over unwritten letters
in the solitude of night
a dim lit candle shining star white light
telephone silent unanswered
candlelight quietly dimmed
unwritten letters to no one
start it all over again
I don't want to be lonely
for the rest of my life
and if I love you only
will you stay by my side

Light Verse
The untimed snow rushed insulted against the glassed shoulders on the poster,
and they were made of paper, they were bare…
It cried, scalded, on the painted, colorful faces,
and they were made of paper, they were bare…
Its outraged tears transformed into tears of joy,
and through them they were still smiling,
not caring for the bitter cold,
in defiance of the delayed spring,
Because they knew,
It could not wash away their colors,
It could not cover their bare shoulders.

Be at peace my brethren
Both younger and older
No matter your struggles
An angel rests upon your shoulders
The messengers,warriors of God
Virtuous beings of life and light
Dressed in light of golden armor
on wings take flight
In our darkest hour of despair
In our ears they whisper words of hope and love
They speak the decreed of the almighty
The King that reigns unmatched surpreme above
The angels will speak to us
In our moments of doubt
To give back strength and hope
To drive the demons out
There's hope my people
Look no further
Could you feel the presense
Of the holy on your shoulder

Angels on my right shoulder
Battling devils on the left
Ever guiding my actions
Saving my soul from bereft
Angels e'er amongst us
Like Clarence on Stewart's bridge
Softly urge us to avoid
Falling from grace at the ridge
My special angel's sweet voice
Sounds so much like my mother's
But you have an angel too
Who's unlike any other's
Spirits of loved ones who've passed
Want us to know heaven's joy
So we reunite with them
And eternal bliss enjoy
So, Mom, if you're listening
Your voice overtakes evil
Helping me find the right path
You've mastered soul retrieval
A wonderful life bestowed
By a righteous urging
From an angel observer
For spiritual merging

Bring me dawn, soft
like the first
breath of Spring.
Bring me dusk, brisk
like the Morning’s
fresh cry,
like the Ocean’s
spray caressing my
skin.
Bring me voice,
shaped into a
lullaby,
dampened with cars
and carts from Old
Shanghai.
Bring me time, so we
can be older,
right here, right
now, watching the
seconds fly.
Bring me love, when
my heart grows
colder.
And she wept oh so
gently upon my
shoulder.

My Shoulder
My shoulders
Hold the care of someone else
No warning
Heavy weight
Responsibilities grow
Caregiving
Tasks for two
Now are mine to meddle through
Keep Control
Remember
All appointments and the meds
Important
I can feel
The stress upon my shoulders
It grows now
No easy task
I strain to make the effort
Rewarding
Not easy either
Daily challenges await
Days go by
My love too
Struggles with both walk and talk
Stroke attack
Together
We face all the days ahead
Not I alone
Changed views now
Our tired eyes do see the world
Moving On
Rearranged
And with it much confusion
Sort it out
Love is strong
Any other seems so wrong
Find a way
Yesterday
The days with fun and flare
Are dreams now
My shoulders
Grow strong with all they carry
Tomorrow
Look forward
Work now toward better days
Promising

Tears seem to be falling more often now,
as I lay in my bed, alone and helpless,
the darkness and the silence are with me,
my only comfort, offers no real help,
the clock on the wall ticking endlessly,
as my life ticks away, the minutes like years,
I lay on my back and stare up at nothingness,
the tears now falling down the sides of my face,
trickling into my ears, trying to tickle me,
yet, no smile can ever find me here anymore,
there is no shoulder to cry on tonight,
it was my pillow that ended up getting damp,
I know I cried myself to sleep again,
tightly grasping my pillow as if it were you.

Free verse
This one has been a labor of love, took nearly 3 weeks to write. Just couldn't get the meter right.
But with that said I think it works now.
Demonize the evil, to welcome in the good
A youthful born upheaval, deciding where you stood,
Rebellion touted over, honoring thy mother;
A demon on your shoulder, an angel on the other!
A schism, dormant, lies in every waking soul
Consistently one tries to wrangle back control,
From the feuding older than Abel and his brother;
A demon on your shoulder, an angel on the other!
Civilized of heart, conflicting symmetry
Angelic swoons impart a wooing devilry,
Blood pumping colder, lopsided one shall smother;
A demon on your shoulder, an angel on the other!
Twisting to and fro ‘tween good and evil deeds
All the while you’ll know only one succeeds,
Give in to the bolder as there’ll never be another
Demon on your shoulder or angel on the other!
